Going to be doing an upgrade soon, and wanted some advice on you think is good value for money these days.
Current system is as follows;
1.4ghz amd thunderbird
KT7A mobo
GF3 64mb
Soundblaster Live 11024
512mb ram ( not sure what type, but it's not ddr)
1 x 120 gb wd hard drive
1 x 10 gb crappy HD
dvd/cd-r combo
cd drive
300w psu
Ok, so a lot needs upgrading, I know
What I'm looing at first is the mobo and processor. I was originally thinking about the amd xp 3200, but price wise this seems close to the amd 64's. I've no idea what difference in performance they have though.
Likewise, would it be better to consider a P4 instead. They may be more expensive, but a 3.2ghz sounds good.
I've found this confusing since amd changed their naming to exclude the speed, so I really have no idea what difference to expect between those mentioned.
I don't know the first thing about motherboards, or what makes a good one, so any advice here would be appreciated (but please make sure I know what processor it matches with

)
A good case for these would be nice too
I'd like to say "money is no object", but it is. Haven't decided how much to spend yet, but around the ?300 mark would be the most I can afford atm.
