PC_Arcade I'm an NTL user too buddie ive also been watching this story with interest since I heard of the new speeds and capping idea,,,I still wouldnt hit the phone to cancel your service just yet,,,,I mean for what we get now for the price isnt bad - a good news server, free 60mb webspace an allways on connection, and upto yet no caps per month on what ya can get,,(Ive been with 'em over 3 years now and seen scare storys before on bringing caps in,,it was around the same time last year when we was meant to be 1gb per day which they never enforced),,,my so far only problem is our dire upload speeds,,,

even if the caps are brought in I'll give it a few months before they switch back to unlimited when enough people jump ship and they start to shit their pants when theyre losing ground to other isp's,,,,I get around 4-5gb's per day on my current 750k speed,,,imagine with a 2mb connection :) 40gbs per month my arse,,,our news server alone would cost us another ?10-?15 per month on whatever isp we choose,, so I aint changing without a little standing of my ground

Can anyone say for certain whether or not the current 1GB day a limit is actually enforced? All there seems to is supposition, the closest thing to concrete facts is the 1GB limit mentioned in the AUP/TOS. I'm not sure whether to be pissed or not if it's not enforced, as I've always stuck to 1GB a day so far.

It isn't enforced at all ATM, the current rumour is that NTL will start actively enforcing it when the speeds increase.
theNomad, I imagine that this :

even if the caps are brought in I'll give it a few months

will be exactly what NTL are rely on when they introduce them.

and I read a few weeks back in The Gaurdian that bulldog was fighting and beat BT in a standards convention and are trying to implement ADSLv2 by the end of the year, and upping their unbundled connections to 8mb standard.

Come on bulldog, hurry up bitches :matrix:

Ok i know AOL are utterly shite, but you can get their BB service through NTL.

Will they have caps on this as well, 'cos after all their using NTL infastructure.

Just weighing up the options 'cos i could be going sky and bt if this ever happens

johnathome, BT are threatening to introduce caps as well, even more restrictive than the NTL ones. Supposedly this is coming into play in the spring but I'm waiting to see if it actually does. If it does then it's Bulldog for me.

Yes you can

No they wont.

There IS another option though, go to NTL business, 1.5Mb line NO restrictions from 9-6 then 1Gb per day (as it is ATM), and it's CHEAPER than NTL's residential service by ?3 per month.
There are 2 drawbacks though a ?90 install fee even if you already have BB with NTL and MUCH more worryingly a 2 YEAR(!) contract

hmm, 750k up to 2meg :o but i also read 2day that BT are upping 1meg lines to 2meg but halving the cap to 15gig a month :wacky: so at least we would be better off with ntl atm altho the u/l only goes up from 128 to 200, that's seriously disappointing :(

what is scarey tho is

It is currently understood that if customers exceed the monthly cap limits as outlined above, their connection will be dropped to a speed of 56Kbps, although this isn?t confirmed.

Same old story for the poor sods on 300K. I'm refusing the upgrade to 1MB since I'd lose 90% of my bandwidth.

Fuck 'em. Time to vote with my feet, as soon as this nonsense starts :

It's a joke and as usual, I'm sure NTL won't actually TELL any of their customers and so therefore Tech support is going to be FLOODED with "my internets gone slow" calls.
