Nec ND-2510A isn't that expensive at all!

? DVD-R: 8x
? DVD-RW: 4x
? DVD+R: 8x
? DVD +R9: 2, 4x
? DVD+RW: 4x
? CD-R: 32x
? CD-RW 16x

Waddaja say?

I'm not satisfied with my current Nec ND-1300a at all though, so I'm a little sceptical about buying a new Nec drive...

NEC2500a is even cheaper and is the same drive, all you need to do is flash the firmware.

Paul and I have one all flashed and just waiting for media :)

Sure have PC_Arcade, and on the hunt for media, with a close eye out

Although I just saw in my Local Store that the Nec ND-2510A is selling for ?79.99 :o
Which isn't bad for a first release of dual layer hardware.

Where are the discs though :?

#EDIT#
I mean NEC's First Dual Layer Drive, I know that Sony and others have had drives out for a while :)
#EDIT#

I'm using +R nowadays, as they are the cheapest branded discs I can get.
Think the majority of discs I've bought have been +R.
What about yourself?

Well I don't have the Samsung drive in my xbox *mutters under breath*, but all the xbox (game) ISO's I've created have played fine.

I have trouble getting xbmc/xbmp to read them but again those are one offs!

I've had no real trouble reading +R's on the old xbox

Has anyone botherd to look for media - it ain't out. Not to mention several sources are saying DL media will cost a significant premium above DVD5. Something to the tune of $13.30 US dollars or there abouts in Japan where the stuff is mostly manufactured per disc. It's not worth it right now. For that I could buy the damn DVD movie as most are between 12 - 25 dollars.

Also I wouldn't spit on a NEC drive (you do realise NEC is Packard Bell) much less taint my PC with one. Hence my Sony DRU-530A DVD burner (burns 8x DVD5-R and 8x DVD5+R 4x DVD5+-RW after the firmware update).

Like I said - price premium. 13.30 per disc is the price in Japan, expect higher elsewhere.

One benefit is that this should drive the cost of DVD5's down further. I can already find DVD5's for around .50 cents a piece in 50 packs for 4x media and 1 dollar for 8x media.

BTW notice how none of your links have any available. These won't be shipping till late this month and not in any quantity.

Lets hope the price drops quick, but like Jack Death says, we can all enjoy a decreased price in Single Layer discs in the mean time :)

But come on, clearing up 8GIG of downloads in half an hour is going to be cool 8)

LOL 2 in stock.

Figure roughly twice the capacity of a DVD5 at 2x. Gonna take a nice while to burn about 40 min. I'll just wait for DL media to hit 1 to 2 bucks a piece. The price just isn't worth the added storage. You can buy double sided DVD5's for less than that.

Anyway, CCE 4 pass can pretty much mean shrinking an entire DVD9 to fit on a DVD5 is nearly if not lossless. To be honest I never really did care about extras so i just rip out the movie to another DVD5 and use no compression. But I'm a DTS ES whore.
