Final version of the hacked firmware nx4all for the Pioneer 108 has been released and seems to be stable (for me anyway), unlocks rip speed and makes the drive RPC1 :)

:-o

I use nero only for data DVDs (ie just burning avis)

everything else you want something that will burn so your discs have better readability. I've found DVDdecrypter is the best of the crop (or good quality burn and easy) for doing images.

If you have two folders (video_ts/audio_ts), use IMGtool classic, make an iso and then burn with dvddecrypter.

What are the max burns speeds owners are getting with the pioneer dvr108? Just tried 16x to a 4x verbatim + disc. Seemed to burn OK but failed the verification at 97%. However the disk itself is fine and works perfectly.

Strangely though the 16x burn itself was not much quicker than a 6x speed??

thats impressive :o

Actually, I tend to be sticking to the speed on the tin, normally just burn Datawrites at 8x :)

Well its the staggered burn speed on media that doesn't support it correctly. @ 16speed should be about 9mins

Actually Nero defaulted to 16x, so it was more by accident than design and I didn't mean to do it.

I guess the slowness of the 16x write was due to media. Took 12 minutes which thinking about it now is quite a bit quicker than a 6x write. My mistake.

Is there any way the drive could get damaged doing 16x to 4x media?

nope, not beyond the 'damage' you get from use in general (ie. wear and tear).

Just upgraded to a newer Pioneer drive - the 110D

Just thought I alert you all to the fact that http://www.play.com are doing this drive for ?29.99 including shipping AND you can cross flash the drive to the A10XLA which allows for dvd-ram burning and use of the quietdrive utility (Small points I know)

This will problably be the last DVD writer I buy and it's a bargain, save ~?10 over the 110 with shipping from SVP etc :)

Let us know how it performs, its done pretty badly in reviews compared to NEC. That's in contrast to previous generations.

I'm keeping an eye on the SATA plextor, if i buy another its probably going to be that.

I vowed NEVER to buy NEC again after their dismal earlier drives, they cost too much and were utter shite, I'll let you know on this one.

I looked at the plextors, but I really don't see the point for the money they cost, this will tide me over until the blue ray / HD-DVD drives start plummeting in price
