yeah i can do it either, its well easy, i have no idea why it doesn't work for you... Although its probably easier if pca does it since i only have the mechassault save on my xbox and you said your using splinter cell right? I'd have to download and ftp it onto my xbox.

The card you've got reports to work though, and you say its detected by your pc... doesn't make any sense to me.

@jynks, its sounding abundantly clear you've never softmodded I have to say

Notice most of this thread early on is concerned with the files pca released on ed2k not the process of softmodding itself, and ftping in replacement dash/software was the other issue which isn't exclusive to softmodding. Then a problem actually burning disks to be read by the xbox which once again isn't to do with softmodding. They would have had that problem with the modchip anyway, you still have to change the dash and ftp in software anyway if you want it to not suck

Scanning through only blade runner has a real problem with the actual process and that could be faulty wiring, or memory card. I think if you ask dj he'll tell you about his faulty modchip (page13).

Its simple to do either really, just softmodding is cheap and reusable. If those don't bother you, don't softmod, but don't lie about the process.

If you're using splinter cell, you need to use three saves. The MA, SC and the other one. They don't fit on one memorycard so that might become a problem... (Or there must be cards of different sizes out there...)

Yeah, there are 2 SC saves, no matter which exploits you use. Unless you pick up a copy of MA / 007:AUF you're going to have to sort this out

If you mean you have to transfer the files from disc from xbox to pc before you can burn, yes.

Although there is a way round it for future copies.

If you extract the .iso or transfer the disk content to the PC, then using nero burn a UDF disk with the contents and ensuring Xbox compatibility mode is ticked these disks will play as normal in the xbox AND be readable by any PC.

yeah i just used flashfxp and grabbed everything from the D drive and then use xISO.

I'd do the UDF thing but all the games i got backed up i've downloaded.

Anyway, i just noticed i must have screwed up a setting in media player... my subs are in a really small font, anyone know how to increase the font size?

cheers

lol, well i messed my xbox up... i installed something to c and now when it boots it says some information about calling support in loads of languages and then has a big "13" in the top left hand corner.

Might as well be a picture of bill gates pointing and laughing. Now it won't boot to a dash (light flashes red and green with the error message), but if i turn the xbox on with a game in the drive it boots the game. Only official games though :outsider:

Luckily i just won an ebay bid on mechassault so hopefully that will come soon and i'll be able to remod it since it takes about 2mins to do. that is unless it needs the dash for whatever reason then its going to mess up again :matrix:

That is unless someone else has an idea to get it to boot to a dash again? I think i need to restore xboxdash.xbe according to the error code.

How did you do that, you plum??

Can you still boot your copies? (you should be able to). If so just download evox and use that to get ftp access, Slayers Auto installer is the best bet

nope, it won't boot copies, just official games.

and i did it by downloading a package with a new dash and software in and ftping it over the c drive. I notice that you've put dashes on e drive though, maybe that has something to do with it.

/me enters Christian fundamentalist mode
yeah... maybe its your fault!

1 - bootldr - Unknown exactly, something to do with checking the motherboard

2 - bootldr - Eeprom check failed

3 - bootldr - ??/not used

4 - bootldr - Ram check failed

5 - kernel - HDD not locked (retail bioses require the hd to be locked)

6 - kernel - Cannot unlock HDD

7 - kernel - HDD timeout

8 - kernel - No HDD found

9 - kernel - HDD parameters (PIO/DMA/or size {debug}, certain size minimum is required for debug)

10 - kernel - DVD timeout

11 - kernel - No DVD Founnd

12 - kernel - DVD parameters (PIO/DMA)

13 - kernel - Dashboard launch fail (due to missing/bad key, or anything else that would prevent it from running) and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed.

14 - dashboard - Error loading dashboard (dashboard generic error)

15 - - ??/not used

16 - dashboard - Other files to do with dashboard / dashboard settings (specific dashboard error)

17 - - ??/not used

18 - - ??/not used

19 - - ??/not used

20 - kernel - The dashboard was attempted to load and failed; It was a cold boot, and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed, but it (for some reason) needed to be noted that the dvd passed the challenge/response authentication

21 - anywhere - This error says that the machine was booted to display a error, basically someone told the machine to reboot (or launch a xbe) with this flag, and the error code just means its been rebooted by the flag

yeah i already know what the error means, what i need to know is how to fix it ;)

Problem is there's no ftp and it doesn't seem to boot backup games. I'm hoping i can just use mechassault to load up the dash that was there originally, then ftp in and restore the xboxdash.xbe. That should arrive in the post soon anyway, i just bought a copy for ?2 on ebay.

If that doesn't work i'm gotten have to take out the hard drive and plug it into my pc.

Both are a pain in the ass, i was hoping there was some other way. I'm downloading Slayers bootdvd, maybe that will work. If its not loading backups however, i doubt it :?

Mechassault will work as long as you didn't delete the save that was on there.

In order to change dashboards, use E:\dashboards not C:\

 Looks like you've found the only major drawback of the softmod

It might be easier for you to restore the dash on the C partition in entirety then re-softmod from scratch (If you dont have a clean C: backup let me know, I have one easily obtainable)

And for future reference : LEAVE THE C: DRIVE ALONE :moon:

well i wouldn't need to leave it alone if you'd have set it all up right, i'll just set it up how i want when i re-mod it. However, i think that this rar i've installed over c has actually screwed up the microsoft dash, so it would have bust a hard mod too (and there'd be no way to fix that apart from removing the hard drive).

I just hope that softmodding again works, if mechassault loading linux profile reads the xbox microsoft dash at all I'm screwed, will have to plug the hdd into my pc and move some files round if that's the case.

I was meaning to put in a bigger hdd at some point, if resoftmodding doesn't work, might as well do it now

 good luck with setting it up "right"

Ever thought it HAS to be set up a particular way in order for it to work?

MA Doesn't read the M$ dash, but the softmod checks that all is well before it starts to mod, so you will have to restore C first.

I'm intrigued as to what you think I did wrong.

lol well all i meant was, iirc, deafult location for dashboards is in c:\
ie. c:\evoxdash.xbe

isn't it? Yet all the dash files in the package are in e:\ which isn't the standard location. Only reason i can think why this package i got didn't work and has messed everything up and can't find the dash.

I just need to ftp in and restore the one file anyway, hopefully it won't need to check anything just to load in the "linux" save game.

I stated in the guide that if you wanted to change dashboards they go in e:\dashboards, if you go merrily overwriting the C:\ directory, that's your problem

The reason for that is to keep c: stock (or as stock as possible) so that in game dashupdates don't fuck up your softmod

It shouldn't, what file did you overwrite, xboxdash.xbe?
