BTW that fan arrived this morning, and has been fitted.
It's a tight fit and you have to jerry rig a way to fit it (I used cable ties to fix it to the shielding) BUT my xbox is now pretty much silent
(I used to have possibly the noisiest xbox on the planet! so it's a godsend)

Hi all, I
after 8 months of softmod enjoyment;thanks to PC_Arcade softmod pack and his help. my xbox has finaly broken down last night.
its happened when I play a xvid video(not porn), its freezed .I swithed off the xbox, after reboot, everthing seems so slow, loading THL lite dashboard or loading MXM with the trayout , put a Halo2 (oringinal) it took 5 minutes to load 1/5 of resume game. that took about 3 attemped. it normally boot up with M$ logo and then displayed 'Contact Service ...'. I unpluged the power cable for over night, hopefully it healed itself. but nothing changed this morning. I did noticed though when I boot in THL dash , the background color of 'Application' is white rather than green. Is it some hardware malfunction?
is it possible to replace the Backup C& E drive back into xbox? so I can send back to M$ for repair, (only 11 months old). could someone can tell me how to go about it?

Sounds more of a software problem to me... Do you have any backup from right after you modded your box? That's all i could think of since i'm no expert at all and never (only during modding) had problems with my modded box.
PCA will probably arrive soon to save the day. Good luck.

Sounds to me like one of the dashboard files is corrupt,
You have FTP access to the xbox in MXM dash (or in UnleashX) - Copy the contents of the softmod pack back over and see if that cures it.
If not, resore a clean C: backup (just FTP every file over) then re-softmod

Shouldn't do, once MXM is loaded, things should be as speedy as usual, if not hold both triggers and "Y" in THC dash and see if UnleashX is any better.
Because you're overwriting files nothing bad should happen during that process, although it sounds to me like one of the dash files is corrupt, which would mean restoring a clean dash and THEN re-softmodding

PC_Arcade how exactly do you boot into the MXM dash once the mod has been done. IIRC the MXM dash is the one prior to doing the mod i.e. the very basic one with the grey background?

Depends if you selected to boot with tray state or not when you modded it initially, If you did, you just boot with the tray open.

Does it mean I only need to FTP over the Dashboard folder in E drive or entire E drive ?(still using your softmod pack)

hey pca, you wanting feedback on your softmod pack?
IMO, you should set the default shell as Media Player. Any and all functionality is available through this shell, and in addition it is most likely the place where most people go off the bat anyway.
If you decide on updating the pack (XBMC is a long way out of date now), you might want to do that.

@PCA: I managed FTP the contents of the softmod pack on to the xbox, not cured. noticed a No 07 on the left hand corner of the TV.
then I FTP the contents of the Backup C and contents of the Backup E ( without the TDATA and UDATA folder), after that it won't even boot into any dashboard now , only boot to xbox logo with microsoft then display : service required Call customer support. and noticed a No 21 on the top left hand corner of the TV
anything else I can do? if I send the xbox to M$, do you think they know that i did a softmod?

They will probably know. If you are still able to access your xbox through ftp it should be at least fixable. I think i had the same error after i modded and unmodded without backup files installed, thus missing files. PCA then sent me a complete backup of his modded 1.6 xbox, i ftp'd that and it worked. What version do you have?
In my backup file, i only have 4 folders on E:\:
BIOS_ld
BiosLD
Dashboard
ltools
I don't think this is correct, is it? Wouldn't i need UDATA and TDATA folders at least?

Udata and TDATA should NOT be there in order to avoid messing with the softmod save.
nanjo, re load MA and use the load linux to get ftrp access then use th clean restore of the C: partition (someone else will have to help with this), then re-softmod.

and if its still not playing ball you could always do what I did.
Download XboxHd, read and follow the readme exactly (put the files in the right folders), take your hard drive out of your xbox and put it in your pc. Boot into the xboxhd disc, format the hdd and restore the c partition that way.
Dunno why ftping across didn't work for you though
