Files over 2gb can't be burnt as ISO - if they're 1/2 DVD then need to be udf

1/3rd DVD is ok (1.56Gb) ISO is fine
1/2 DVD isn't (2.35Gb) ISO doesn't work UDF only

That's exactly what I meant. I burned UDF because the movies I mentioned are 1/2 DVD = ~2.2 gigs, hence can't be burned using ISO.

1) I too leave the idx file outside of the RAR including the sub file (why would'nt I ). But for some reason the 666 build refused to play the subs. Well, that's solved anyway because the newer build works fine. Maybe it was just a freak occurence.

Generally, I burn my avis using ISO if I can but with the newer 2gb+ rips that can't be done. Hence the need for UDF support.
I'll check my settings, maybe I can find a solution.
Oh, and Xbox compatibility mode was checked.

I've found a couple of FAQs on how to change the drive. Seemed rather complicated. Let me know how it works out for you. :)

That would be absolutely terrific. :beerchug:

Once it's enabled the xBox will also accept files larger than 2 gb, right? I'm asking this because xbmc FAQ states that xbmc will play

files up to 2 gb from ISO DVD-/+R
and
files up to 1 gb from UDF DVD-/+R

which would be pretty useless because why should anyone burn files smaller than 2gb in UDF mode... :wacky:

Looks like a piece of cake :

Code:
<!-- <bookmark>                                    !-->
        <!--   <name>ISO</name>                               !-->
        <!--   <path>iso9660://</path>                        !-->
        <!-- </bookmark>                                    !-->
        <!-- <bookmark>                                     !-->
        <!--   <name>UDF</name>                               !-->
        <!--   <path>UDF:</path>                              !-->
        <!-- </bookmark>                                    !-->

Just uncomment these lines so they look like :

Code:
<bookmark>
        <name>ISO</name>
        <path>iso9660://</path>
        </bookmark>
        <bookmark>
        <name>UDF</name>
        <path>UDF:</path>
        </bookmark>

I would assume though in the <path></path> tags you should put d: (your DVD drive)

Ok, changing the xml works and generally my xbox recognizes UDF discs BUT it only finds files smaller than 1 gb on them. Here's what I found out:

When you enable 'xbox compatibility mode' in Nero you essentialy burn a UDF128 disc. The problem with UDF 128 is that the xbox doesn't play files larger than 1gb using it, which makes it pretty much useless with regard to AFR rips (1/3 and 1/2 DVD).
With 1/3 DVD sized rips you can use ISO - best choice anyway, so no problem.

I'll try burning large (2 gb+) AFS files in different UDF modes next to see if I can find something that allows you to burn files larger than 2 gb to DVD and still watch them on the xbox.

That brings us to the DVD-Rom.

Looks like there are at least 3 different Samsung DVD-Roms which are used in the xbox. Mine's a SDG-605F. Obviously, that model reads all types of DVD-R/+R and DVD-/+RW but virtually no CD-R. Other Samsung models seem to have problems with DVD+R but less problems with CD-R.

Hope this is useful for future modders.

From xbmc FAQ:

Quote:
Q: Why can't Xbox Media Center read/play files larger than 1GB from a UDF DVD-R/RW media?

A: This is due to a Xbox™ limitation reading UDF128 (this is not a XBMC failure or our fault).

Found here:

http://manual.xboxmediacenter.de/wakka. ... cFAQ&v=qp8

From what's stated in the FAQ it looks like this won't be fixed. I'll try the other available UDF modes in Nero nonetheless. Maybe we're lucky. :)

Wow, that's what I call a posting spree. :wacky: :D
