@PCA, Stop! hehe... your going to render his xbox unbootable, he already has xbmc as the dash and doing what you suggest will probably crash it with an old .xbe (when i got the xbes out of sync its crashed out repeatedly) as the dash

Four things can happen if you use the wrong xbe at launch afaik, 1) it will freeze 2) it will crash with an error code 3) it will load the old version of xbmc but glitch under any option that has changed in the new verison. 4) It might run, but You won't have updated properally

I know this because i've done it before, and its done 1,2 and 3 . With 2.0+ there's now a shortcut so it doesn't load the old xbe anymore, it just forwards to the new version. That's it, no more messing around with the default xbe ever again :)

@MCM, no you can't/shouldn't. Not until you figure out what you've done to make xbmc dash.

You need to remember what you did to make xbmc dash, its beyond trivial, you'll have renamed a .xbe. When you remembe what the default dash file is its beyond trivial to create a shortcut (double click, type "C:\apps\xbmc\default.xbe") and updating is drag and drop or delete and replace. Deleting shares is just going to the folder and deleting the folders ;)

Once again, read the README file its pretty clear ;)

Its really simple, you've got a file that loads at startup, you know what it is because you've changed your dash to XBMC before and that's your dash file. So just find it, rename it to backup.xbe, create your shortcut in the app and upload that to the same filename, then overwrite the folder on c and delete the saved games :) Easy Peasy. :)

Once again, all in the readme file.

What I'm suggesting works fine on my xbox (I woulsn't have suggested it if it didn't)

BUT it's not the "proper" way of doing it, that much I'll grabt you.

by the same tokem I was trying to stop MCM deleting all his game saves

Yes, what is this game saves thing? What have they to do with the running of XBMC, and like I asked before, I can back them up and ftp them back over can't I?

If I have to delete them permanently and start over in all my games then it really isn't worth it, but surely that isn't necessary? :?

its worked three or four times out of about 9 or 10 times for me, if you update the dash, you must update the xbe you use to boot or it will have glitches serious or not (since tihs is what is loaded, not the one in the c:\apps\xbmc\ folder :().

Now its irrelevant, but of course you have to create the shortcut before it becomes irrelevant. :)

You ONLY have to delete the XBMC game save, nothing else.

once agin MCM, it will tell you what to do in the readme file. Save game names are kind of inhuman, its a string of letters and numbers.

XBMC caches images/position its got in video, etc. It saves these in your save game folder since its specific to your usage of xbmc :)

I dunno why you'd think you'd need to delete all your saved games though, you would never need to delete things xbmc doesn't use :)

Well, I've managed to reverse what I did to make XBMC my default dash and now my XBOX boots to THC lite again. :D

So if I go into the save game list I need to delete the XBMC one there right? Then I'll overwrite the files in C/Apps/XBMC with the new ones.

I think I'll try XBMC 2.0 out first before making it the default dash, in case I prefer another one - none of the ones I've used so far was just right for me.

I wanted XBMC to boot up first because I can just connect it to my PC (with no TV attached) and FTP into it straight away without messing about performing the XBMC shortcut blind. Presumably I can do the same with the newest version too?

EDIT: It works! The update is great, it's better than ever (or whatever old build I had previously). I like the way you can adjust the screen while a video plays, and also the fancy new screensavers, and the emulators show up in My Programs which they didn't with the old one. There are loads of video and audio options too, the whole thing is very easy to use and just feels right.

I did find an odd bug though, after switching the audio track on a dual audio video file and then exiting back to My Videos, none of my video files had any sound! This was solved by playing the dual audio file again and switching back to the original track and exiting. Now all is fine, and all I need to do is set it as my dash. 8)

That would be incredibly odd if you did.

you've been able to do all that for many, many versions now. Screensavers are always in T3CH distribution, i didn't notice any chance since any previous v1.0 installations i've installed over the past year.
Sounds like you've not been grabbing a decent build each time. ;)

Is it saving your video settings each time? Tell it not to in options, it will be there somewhere. I never listen to dual audio, dubbing gets unmuxed, but i watch plenty of dvds and what not and it doesn't save that when i switch tracks.

Does anyone know how to burn a video file larger than 2GB to DVD ISO, so that it can be watched with XBMC?

Nero throws a wobbly if I ask it to burn a 2GB+ file using UDF, and with some AFR rips now pushing 1/2DVD size, it makes it impossible (?) to burn to disc.

yeah, you copy it to your hdd and watch it from there, or stream it over a network :wacky:

huge UDF files are physically impossible to read in the xbox afaik, irrespecitve of drive. I think its a m$ issue but i can't remember the technical specifics. Not many stnadalones can do anything with UDF based files that size.

Thought that might be the case. HDD space is a bit tight at the moment, guess I'd better invest in som new ones.

network the mofos, put in a switchable hdd (see the AFR thread) and share it over the network :)

Might need some ethernet capable running round and a switch, but its the best solution.

It's already networked up. Current HDD's are getting full though, so I've been burning as much to DVD as possible.

Saw the thread with the hotswappable HDD's, looks like a good solution. :)

You can always make the DVD drive of the PC shareable on the network, that way you can use the PC, whilst freeing up the HD space ;)

Good point. Do you get any lag that way?

NOTE: If you have the facility to support it, get a component cable ASAP!

I've just recently noticed how shitty it looks using other means. I've been using a component cable for a long time myself and looking at the output by other means its a huge downgrade.

Spud's post brought to you by the WELL D'UH! Corporation.

My DVD player is on the component input and the 360 on the VGA, so I'm limited to RGB SCART for the XBOX. :(
