some games need you to switch to NTSC using enigmah Video mode switcher, I've NEVER come across one that jsut WOULDN'T run

It's mainly EA sports titles that are problematic

If anyone is interested I've got a version of 007 for sale which is guaranteed compatible with the save game hack, newer versions (the platinum) re-release aren't.

I can provide Pre(soft)modded xbox's too, if anyone is interested, PM me

:beerchug: Well finally got there. Thanks PC_Arcade. I was still waiting for AUF from ebay but today I managed to get hold of a copy of Mechassault, and in less than an hour had it modded and all the additional stuff copied over to the Xbox.

The only slight problem was with networking from the PC to the Xbox, ie the IP address of the Xbox. After the softmod and the basic dash appeared in the bottom left hand corner it was 0.0.0.0 and I couldn't seem to set it anywhere. Well I hooked up my laptop with a crossover cable and after rebooting the Xbox it's IP address defaulted to 192.168.1.32. Was easy after that to ftp to and from it with FlashXP.

One slight problem now though - I've downloaded an Xbox game just to try out - it was an .iso file. Burnt it using DVD Decrypter and it simply will not load in the Xbox. I tried different media and Nero and it still won't go. Any thoughts PC_Arcade? I didn't mod it to play "backups" but would be nice if it could though.

Thanks again.

Glad it all worked :beerchug:

As for the backup, what drive is in your box and which media are you using, if it was DVD+r did you remember to bitset so the xbox thinks it's a DVD rom?

Hi PC_Arcade, thank you for the quick response :)

The drive is a Samsung and it was DVD+R - but I'm not sure what you mean by bitset?

OK, the xbox (or at least certain versions) do not work with +R media unless the media is "bitset":-
Quote:
For a DVD player or drive to identify what kind of disc is loaded, it queries the so called "Book Type Field" found in the lead-in section of each DVD disc. These few bits, commonly referred to as "compatibility bitsettings" tell the drive which low-level format specification does the media conform to, such as DVD-ROM, DVD+R or DVD+RW.

What DVD recorder do you have in your PC?

Yeah, some Xbox's read one better than others, I exclusivly use -R because of the bitsetting issue with some Xbox's and +R's

Have got a Pioneer DVR 108 writer. The first thing I tried in the Xbox was a cdr with an avi file on it - which worked perfectly. Looks like I'll have to get some -r discs then or at least some +rw so I can modify the bitset.

The Pioneer 108 doesn't support bitsetting unless you modify the firmware

y use +R at all? Is Cyprus one of those wacky countries where -R isn't significantly cheaper?

I've got only +r discs because my other drive is + only. Up until now it wasn't a problem. So now I'll have to get some -r's tomorrow.

However as I've just flashed the pioneer with the '1.18 PIOdata' I still can't figure out how to bitset the mutha with Nero/DVD Decrypter- oh what fun!!!!

You need the latest version of Nero and IIRC it does it automatically on the PIODATA firmware'd 108 ( I could well be wrong though)

Right actually PC_Arcade. I looked for options to set the book type within Nero and drew a blank, so went ahead and burned some avi movies to a +r disc anyway and it worked fine. Tried the game again and that worked too. :D :D

Looks like I can save cash and keep using these 70 odd +r disks I've amassed after all. :beerchug:

This is a nice firmware too.
