Post subject:  PSP cracking and hacking?
Well there's an xbox and a gamecube thread, my little brother just bought a psp (/me enters mr t mode and shouts "crazey fule") and I've noticed there's a number of psp images.

How do you mod a psp? I've read something about firmware, but I got no idea what the process is. Anyone got a psp?

Hey spud, check out the video section of Psphacking101 you'll find everything you need, from the basics to running emulators, backup games, downgrades whatever.. even PSP running Windows. :wink:

What firmware is installed?

If it's a UK one it'll be 2.1 IIRC and it's not possible to downgrade it to 1.5 which runs all homebrew or 2.0 which at the minute runs limited homebrew.

So if it's a 2.1 you can't run anything other than original games.

To get your firmware version on the psp goto

Settings>>System Settings>>System Information. That will give you you mac address, nickname and your firmware version.

Make sure your firmware is 2.0 and not 2.01 otherwise you cant downgrade, if it is 2.0 then here is some information on the downgrade process and the files you need.

I don't know anything about the actual process as I got a Japanese 1.0 PSP before the USA & UK launch and only had to update to 1.5 to get homebrew running.
