Post subject:  Pre-Built water cooling or specific requirements for a PC?

Hello,

I'm wondering if some people can help me choose components, specifically around getting a high end pc gaming box that is water cooled. As a minimum i'd want my graphics card and CPU to be water cooled, mainly to keep the temperature lower than air, and also to eliminate the bulk of noise.

Specs I'm looking at are:
Fast CPU, 2.0-3.0GHz Dual or Quad Core
4 GB of fast ram (600-1000Mhz)
Top end graphics card (but maybe a notch down if its the difference between stupidly priced and reasonable)

I am willing to buy a pre-built machine as long as its not outrageous (I priced up a spec i'd be interested in from alienware and it was ~£2.5k :o )

Recommendations on cpu, motherboard, ram, graphics card and just as importantly a capable water cooling system and case that can appropriately cool 'top of the line' kit.

I've just build a similar system :

Armor LCS case ~£150
Intel q6600 cpu (easily overclocker to 3ghz+) ~£150
Gigabyte DS3-P motherboard ~£80
4gb Corsair XMS-2 800mhz (4-4-4-12) 1gbx4 ~£150
8800GTX ~£330

Fast and quiet ;)

is armor lcs capable of cooling the graphics card and cpu?

It cools the CPU as standard, you need to add a block for the GPU, but the pump / rad is enough to do so according to Thermaltake

i take it your not by the sounds of that? :)

I might tweak up the cpu cos i can't be arsed messing around overclocking just yet. £900 is a lot of money to drop a machine, and that's not covering the extra ~£150 for hdd, psu, dvd writer etc.

No, not bothered with watercooling the GPU, may at some point, but it's quiet enough as it is :)

I've never seen a CPU as easy to overclock as the C2D (or C2Q), just up the FSP and it's done! easiest o/c ever, I'm running @ 3 or 3.2, 3.4 I think will take some tweaking and I can't be bothered.

how's bioshock? I got just playable at 1280x1024 with graphics on high. I imagine it plays on full spec at a solid fps :)

That was with a 6600GT + Athlon64 4000+

Is that the demo or did you go out and buy it? Read about the f*cking nazi-check thats in the game so you have to get it verified by a Brown Shirt server before you can play the freakin game!

Demo (and even that's DRM'd up like a mofo) -

Fraps Min 43 Max 100 Average is ~60fps

that's @ 1920x1200 with everything maxed, looks great :)

The demo was DRM'd? I just downloaded a tar.gz from filefront... i'm guessing you got yours off of steam? ;)

I think i might look at sourcing the same components you've got then.

Why would you want to watercool the GPU if youre not going to overclock it ?
the sli 6800s upstairs are overclocked on the stock fans & never overheat but if its simply to make your pc quiet then you have nothing to lose, but it definately increases your overclocking capacity on everything 8)

The demo contains SecuROM, in order to stop groups using the demo's .exe to load the full retail, and I got it from usenet

I bought my collector's edition but my big daddy's arm is off. I emailed 2k to get it replaced, hopefully they will... they have done for yanks but we always get screwed over in the uk. The arseholes they got for nintendo's returns what me to pay for sending them my the busted wares for replacement. :?

When i pluck up the courage i will be buying all teh components you suggested; one question though, will the graphics card be fine for crysis?

BTW There's a working Bioshock crack out :)

Full release : http://www.binsearch.info/?q=BioShock.P ... 20&server=

Crack only : http://www.binsearch.info/?q=Bioshock.C ... 20&server=

I've not tried the full release, if you have an older download (like the Onehitwonder) the crack works fine :)

I saw the cracks on nzbrus a day or so back, you should get it if you've not got it.

okay, i ordered my kit... any advice pca in general about the kit pca?

I bought a different mainboard and added a nice psu into the mix. I have some hdds that i haven't formatted yet so will be using two of those in a RAID0.

Do you have Medieval 2: Total War? Can you play that on full? :googley:

ps. just got to the fort frolic, and my existing pc is chugging along hella slow. I don't know if i need a reboot or what, i've just reduced the resolution but its highlighted the need for a better pc admirably :)
