This is building from scratch, all I have have is an English keyboard ![]() I have a laptop (A wonderful x61s which is the best laptop I've ever used), but i need something specifically for a good gaming experience. I've bought Left4Dead, etc. since xmas but haven't played. I've also got a copy of Empire: Total War and reading the reviews is utter torture! Anyway, any specs/recommendations? I need to buy this in spain, or import. I'm looking at €700 but I need a monitor too. |

Acer V203Wbd € 121,- AMD Phenom X4 9600 € 108,95 Club3D HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 € 134,37 Cooler Master Centurion 590 Zwart € 60,39 Cooler Master Real Power M620 € 76,95 Foxconn A7DA-S € 85,- Logitech MX518 € 29,- OCZ Platinum Dual Channel OCZ2P10664GK € 48,42 Samsung SH-S223F € 16,74 Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS, 160GB € 29,95 Total € 710,77 Don't know if I can get lower than this and still be acceptable for gaming, especially total war which is somewhat heavy. Assumed you already have a headset or something alike for audio. These are prices in the Netherlands btw. |

You mean like on the motherboard? (I dont think you mean that cause those are not really good for gaming) Or do you mean an extra physics engine on the graphic card? Dunno really. ![]() But if you rather have nvidia, you might want to look at 'XFX GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB DDR3 Standard' it's about the same price (€ 149,50) If you want the best of the best, you should aim a bit higher on the budget I'm afraid ![]() 700 is a bit low for a high end gaming rig. For comparison reason: I based this one on another list which was about €1500 and that one was a pretty awesome rig. So you can see I had to cut a lot too get so low. |

I mean -> http://www.techspot.com/news/29731-nvid ... plete.html I intend to dual boot with either fedora or ubuntu. Okay so if I up my budget to <€1000, what does that afford me? Might need some speakers too. At home in the uk, I have a water cooled 6600 quad, with a Geforce 8800 GTX which handled every game I'd thrown at it before xmas. Its very, very important that I can play Empire: Total War at a decent framerate on the monitors native resolution. |

Some alterations! I upped the processor to a 9950 that was on offer, socket i7 and AM3 push the cost up significantly. I went for a 4870 because on the empire: total war forums someone said it was 'recommended' and could play everything on high without lag. Its the last notch before paying crazy money. I also chose 1GB of ram because i like textures and high resolutions. I got 8GB of ram because, well i'm a dick and chose a mainboard that supported it. Case, etc. I didn't give a shit about, I went for things that used words like "silence", did a quick google to make sure they weren't shit. Monitor i chose an Iiyama prolite. Total was €991.93. Anyone think there's a mistake in what I ordered?

intel fanboy? How so? This pc: AMD Phenom X4 Last pc: Intel Quad Core Previous PC: AMD64 Previous PC: Athlon + Previous PC: Honestly can't remember but i think it was another AMD The real answer is I go for the one that gets the best reviews, price and performance ratios. I cant comment on how good the phenom is, I went with it largely because ATI is top dog atm and AMD works well with them, that and I have a 6600 and then next big jump on the intel scale would have been an i7. Intel i7 devestates in scores, but was too expensive. AM3 socket cpus are too much and performance isn't great. |

San Miguel is one of the better beers in Spain. I would however recommend a cold sangria. ![]() AMD + ATI have to work well, since they are the same company, aren't they? The most recent review I have read stated the Intel processors to be much faster though. |

maybe funny question but do you have some OS on that new computer (do the install windows on machines they sell) or you have to manage it by yourself... ![]() ![]() ![]() i am quiet tired of installing it by myself so i am wondering if there is some stores selling computers with win OS on them ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() definitely included in the price ![]() ![]() ![]() thanks |

If you buy a PC in a store around here you can usually choose whether they should install Win$hit for you or not. |
