Would I get better stability if I used 2003? What about compatability issues?
Thought I would ask here first incase any of you dudes are using it.

Stay away from windows 2003 mate
I tryed it and becuase it's built on server technology.
Isn't really suited to a home PC.
It may well be stable but alot of the functions are missing or different becuase it is a server build of windows!
Like shutdown, it's not as easy as clicking on start shutdown and then it does...... If ya want more info I could PM you.
But from my experience.
Windows 2000 (Pro/Server) is the best+stable version of windows there is!
But give 2003 a try but you'll find that the server additions just make it more complictaed to run as a home PC.
Like alot of software WIL NOT run on it, like dvd/virus/firewall becuase it is a enterprise edition of windows?
Anyway basically - "NO" to your question!

Hmm, might give 2000 a go then. Just looking into alternatives again.

If you've not tried 2000 then go for that mate and you won't look back...ask any1 who uses it.
Is just as stable as windows 2003 would be but more user firendly

Of course, but i doubt good old Takyon wants a server build of windows specifically?
So windows 2000 is his best bet!
Give me a unix/linux box any day!
Although I work with them so am a bit biased.

I didnt mind linux, but this is also a family PC and the others didnt like it. Couldnt be bothered with dual boot as space is an issue for me.
Anyone know what service pack they upto? I only ask cos a mule search chucked up fookin hundreds of results.

Any idea of the file size I should look for, had a look at FH and SC but cannot find anything for 2000 pro, and mule search ranges from 1meg right upto 1.5gig
