Long story as short as possible...

Finally got around to trying to get a DTS movie to play. Was successful after installing WinDVD for the Intervideo Audio Decoder and the common DTS filter pack for use with Zoomplayer etc.

Found one little problem though:

Image

s/pdif on my comp works fine for pumping out the audio to my home stereo receiver through digital coax, but with no s/pdif option available on the codec itself I end up with only stereo...

I think its WinDVD when its installing.... checks my system and then "grays out" the other options. Could be wrong though.

Using this version of WinDVD: 53537

Anyone been successful at externally decoding DTS?
Anyone not have those above options "grayed out"?

I think it's becouse it's not the full version of WinDVD filter. I once had it grayed, then installed a cracked one and it was all OK.
But I'm no longer using it since there is really good free version - AC3Filter :D It has output to SPDIF as an option but I don't use it so I cannot comment.

I use AC3filter through SP/DIF and it's fine :)
Thoroughly recommended.

I've never had a problem with AC3. Always used the ac3filter. Wasn't aware it filtered and delt with DTS. Is there an option on the ac3filter for DTS that I'm not aware of?

Can you list me specific releases that you have listened to that have DTS and that you have gotten to externally decode with ac3filter?

Could be the filter I use, I'll check later.

Tested a dvd with DTS audio on it, and WinDVD was able to send it to my stereo. So, doesn't seem to be any problems with the codec. Something about pulling it from a .avi.

I read through more help threads and topics dealing with this. Most either have no conclusion, or people are just happy to get any sound at all from the file (in other words, didn't want/need it to be externally decoded).

If anyone reads this and can get DTS out to their stereo, let gspot render the file to see what is being used to do it.

Not a big deal, only have the one film that has DTS audio. Stereo is good enough, but don't it just eat at you, that you can't get it to work the way you want. :)

Now I'm curios myself :) When I checked few things I think I recommended AC3filter to fast.
I seems it doesn't support DTS yet, or it's just unable to pick it up from avi, don't know.

I checked an avi with gspot it says: "MEDIA_SUBTYPE_DTS (0x2001) Dolby Laboratories, Inc", codec not installed. BSPlayer doesn't see any audio obviously. I looked for DTS directshow filter and found only Gabest's filters which support only WinDVD decoder :?

As a workaround one can use Media Player Classic. It has DTS support build in (but again - I can't test SPDIF output):Image

Maybe changing output to wave-out instead of direct-sound will help. Found that here: bsplayer forum

no AC3 filter doesn't decode DTS!

Use zoomplayer and select PowerDVD's audio decoder, or of course, just use powerdvd. windvd is a shitty player.

Wow! It was just that easy.

Good ol' Media Player Classic. Works fine for use on the desktop for DTS to 2 speaker stereo, and on the laptop with s/pdif out to my external decoder.

*wonders what all that mess about installing WinDVD and the other filters is about* :matrix:

*runs off to click those previously skipped-over DTS music releases*

Thanks for the tips.
