Post subject:  Need some advice on hardware

Hi!

Been something I've wonderin' for a while.
Good hardware is shit expensive. But it can't cost the same all over the world right?? I mean jesus fuck christ, how can someone in eh.. let's say Nigeria (I have no idea if that's a poor country or not), afford to buy a 1024MB graphics card for example?? I know there's rich people in poor countries as well, but it just doesn't seem possible that they have the same prices everywhere..

The reason for this post is of course that I'm a cheap bastard a prefer to spend as little money as possible

You get what you pay for, "Buy quality, cry once..." you know!
But afaik companies adjust their prices a bit for different countries to find the sweet spot, but im not sure it applies to hardware.

With (pretty much) global markets now, the prices have more or less flattened out, the only market that changes price according to "ability to pay" is the software market, and even then only to a small degree.

Hardware prices are pretty much the same the world over (AFAIK)

 128mb most common, high end cards with 256 (which isn't used to full potential unless its high end games)... 1024 we are a couple of years off to say the least

ALthough I reckon you will be able to get some graphics cluster cards with that much ram on... of course it will cost you about ?3000+ a pop :o

oh and back on topic, I use overclockers.co.uk mainly, but sometimes its cheaper going direct with the company or ebay (ebay I got my expensive monitor very cheap :) )

But importing by a dealer can be a total nightmare, especially with stuff as unreliable as PC hardware.

Yeah, I know.. But if it would save me LOTS of cash, I would do it in a heartbeat! :) heh.

Well this thread left me feeling somewhat empty and disappointed! :? hehehe.. no, i suspected there was no way to save money... except eBay, but can't get shit here in norway. Never once found anything I want really cheap..

komplett sell overpriced goods. Bought stuff off them in the past, but they are more expensive (they used to be cheap) normally.

hehe, yeah, that's a graphics cluster card :) Its designed for rendering (and hence why it isn't ATI or nvidia) ;) Will be bad for gaming :(
