Just spotted this on my travels round the various ign subsites: http://cube.ign.com/articles/522/522184p1.html Nintendo Criticizes Microsoft and Media Says both are pushing too strongly for next-generation systems.
![]() That GTA comment is a bit of a kick in the crouch ![]() I hope this one develops into a pissing contest like Nvidia vs. ATI ![]() Eagerly waiting for a crazey outspoken m$ employee's retort |

hehe, its a good job NOE don't do anything other than distribute and talk to other developers ![]() I think you can read into this a bit, nintendo are pissed that they're having to talk about another new console when they still saw a long life ahead of the gamecube. In the other press releases they are trying to focus on gamecube games, which is more like sony. Microsoft on the other hand seems to have abandoned the Xbox in favour of this pc they're cooking up, which, as this comment shows, is pissing off the competition. On a next gen note, nintendo announced that they will be showing finished hardware next E3 but won't 'mention' it until then, as they 'are focusing on the gamecubes catalogue' As for slouching sales, they never picked up, that's also why m$ are rushing ahead with Xbox2 plans in the face of their current console. I think the comment hit the nail on the head though:
What his bosses haven't let him into is that includes nintendo, although not at the same pace ![]() I'm a bit concerned about Sony, they are very silent about the whole matter... Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? ![]() |

Tell me about it. The big N is facing an uphill battle. MS just have so much money to throw around. I have a feeling they're just going to buy and decent developer who won't play ball with Xbox2 exclusive deals. Basically they will eventually just muscle Sony and Nintendo out of the console market. Sony just seems to be killing themselves with each succesive generation. The PSX was successful because of ease of programming and better 3D power than it's closest competitior at the time of release - the Sega Saturn. Nintendo's reluctance to move from the cartridge doomed the N64 (sorry but 60 to 80 US dollars per game is outrageous), not to mention the extremely late entrance. With the PS2 Sony made many of the same mistaes as with the PSX, namely poor resolution and limited VRAM. But as the winner of the previous generation they had the advantage of a large developer base. However Nintendo and Microsoft introduced consoles that wer more PC oriented as far as hardware and therefore easier to program for. They also released consoles that had quite a bit more graphical oomph than Sony's beast. However neither had the third party backing of Sony and therefore couldn't expand their libraries enough to truly compete with anyone but each other. Microsoft has however trumped Nintendo in a huge way. They've outrightly bought several top notch game developers including Bungie and Rare. They have also developed excellent financial relations with top Japanese, European, and American developers. More over they have learned a great deal about the industry on this go round and I'm sure have one hell of a system planned. More over they will launch with more AAA titles and more third party support than Nintendo can ever hope to muster. I'd say the second time around it will be stiff competition between Sony and the big ole greedy MS, with Nintendo trailing far behind both. Also lets not forget about Microsofts plans to standardize certain gaming software standards like the API and control standards for PC's in an attempt to integrate the console it's bringing out and PC's. This could give MS a potential limitless installed user base for developers, and really give Sony a cheapo kick in the groin if things work out. |

If there's on thing I've learnt from the current generation, is that is a laugh.... especially as launch titles. Took Sony nearly a year to ruster up anything close to that, nintendo's launch was pretty piss poor, and M$ relied on one game for ages (needless to say, Halo) and even that was highly over rated. I'd be very surprised to see anything even remotely 'AAA' on any of those new consoles at launch. Someone hurry up and buy nintendo ![]() ![]() |

Yeah I remember - should have been the Halo-box. ![]() Granted it's one of the finest FPS games on a console. However as a PC gamer it was merely above average to me. I've been putting alot of time into Madden2004 and Far Cry on the PC side - although The Suffering for PC is quite fun too, and Stan Winston created the monster designs. |

Hehe, my PC is so old yet still pretty much fun. I just spent a bit o cash to plop in an XP2500-Mobile in her and managed a 700MHz overclock to 2.5GHz. Not bad for a 90 dollar CPU. Between that and me 9800 Pro I haven't met a game I can't jack up to max details including Far Cry. I'm not a huge console gamer myself, probably due to the fact that downloading and getting copied games to work on a console is a bit harder than the PC side even with a good mod chip. Hmm did I say that aloud - ![]() I used to buy my stuff, but alas Bush has sent all of the positions I used to work over to India. So now it's catch as catch can, and eating comes before gaming for me. Guess it's time to get my MCSE finished up and maybe some Cisco certs. An A+ and N+ don't do squat for ya anymore. Kerry for president in 2004! No more Bush, unless it's between her legs of course. ![]() |
