Post subject:  Which firewall?

I haven't had this much trouble with trying to find a suitable application, ever - I think.

Started out with NIS, which seemed OK but started to get sluggish. Then I went over to Outpost - great, it really worked well with both emule and Bittorrent. Then IT too went sluggish - I worked out it was the logging at fault (have you seen the size of the logs this thing produces) and disabled them. Worked fine for a while but now it just hammers the CPU at 80-90%, even with logging disabled.

What next then? The obvious choices are Sygate and Kerio, but which one, which version. I have trawled through pd101 looking at both but Sygate v2525 seems to have screwed up two users PCs, and the latest Kerio thread has about 5 different versions.

Please someone just tell me what works for them and what version. :beerchug: Anything as I'm totally exposed right now - ooo errrr.

Thank you Bassline - I've d/loaded 5.5.2525 and 5.5.2577 so far but if this works for you I'll give it a go. I was loathe to use the 2525 after the comments on pd101. :beerchug:

Works great tvm Bassline :D Logging is much better in Sygate than Outpost and options for turning it off too.

I've been using sygate for a while now, but I do have one problem with it.
Occasionally, it'll pop up messages saying a program (usually emule or firefox) has changed since I last used it.
This happens while the program is actually running, so the .exe file shouldn't have changed.

Haven't managed to figure this out yet, so I guess I've just got something misconfigured.

Dia, make sure to check the applications area.

Make sure to uncheck EVERYTHING for NT Kernal and Generic Host Process.....
/under advanced....

And for Firefox, uncheck act as server....
