I noticed today they have some divx players for ?60 with a 3 year guarantee. They also read digital camera memory cards.

Divx and xvid, svcd and vcd and it seems to play everything else as well.

Anyone got one of these? I've never heard of them before, they're German.
Not sure if the firmware is updatable but at the mo they read divx 3*, 4 and 5*.

They're crap, someone posted about them @ fh.

They are rebadged poor brands from third world countries, they have poor support and are just generally craply made. I wouldn't recommend them.

You can get cheaper, better players @ http://www.ebuyer.com

Ok
Just had a look at ebuyer, they do have cheaper ones!. I spose it was the 3 year guarantee that appealed to me.

What divx players do people have and can you recommend any?

What are the Yamada's like?

Xbox by so far its nowturned round and is now urinating downwind of the competition and laughing at their deform crippled efforts of coming even close to playing everything....

You mean which is the better of the deformed, mangled players that struggle to play most things, I'm not quite sure

It does, although some (not all) owners are complaining about jerky playback.

I have a Phillips DVP642 and it plays pretty much everything I throw at it, except movies that were released with stupid audio formats that can't be converted back to .wav by Virtual Dub. (The Hills Have Eyes 2 and Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind are the 2 most recent releases like this).

One might wonder why people use non-standard codecs that can't be manipulated by Virtual Dub. Seems pretty stupid to me.

And if they weren't used, my player would work all the time...instead of 95% of the time.

What codec are those rips using?

Does the Philips handle Q-pel and GMC?

Filename: Eternal.Sunshine.Of.The.Spotless.Mind.2004.DVDRip.XviD-DVL.ShareConnector.avi

It's an Xvid .avi, and under Audio in Properties it says it's 128 kbps MP3.

But it's clearly not, because MP3 audio would get converted back to .wav by Virtual Dub.

But all that VirtualDub does with this audio is saves it in it's current format with .wav stuck on the end. It doesn't ACTUALLY change the format.

And when I try to take that fake .wav and paste it on the movie, it won't process, and the audio timing gets all jacked up.

So I don't know what kind of Audio Codec it is. It's an annoying one though.

Try loading the file into gspot and see what that says the Audio is.

Stream Type and A/V Interleave:
OpenDML AVI
IMRR=1.00
I/L=1 vid frame (42 ms), p=480 Split: No

Audio:

0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3

129 kb/s (64/ch, stereo) VBR LAME3.93

48000 Hz

Video:

4cc=xvid

And I don't know if my player supports those or not.
It might. I mean, it's a free country.
:wacky:

I actually never tried that one, but I know that The Hills Have Eyes 2 doesn't play. I don't think I'm going to burn Eternal Sunshine. Not really my kind of movie.

Guess I'll try again, maybe cause I just used a cdrw and didn't finalize?

It doesn't like some characters also.

So I take all the -.",(),[],-_=+ off the filename.
Just use spaces or .'s and text.

That could be the problem also., forgot to mention as it was a problem for me also.
