Hey... This computer is pretty badass. Dual PCI-E Graphics cards (Nvidia, unfortunately), but still pretty badass. PCI-E with an AMD chip. Expensive as hell, though. http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/highend ... trasli.asp Oh...the reason I'm posting this is also because that company...cyberpowerpc.com...is great. They don't make you buy an Operating System, you can buy a custom Barebones with pretty much anything you can think of (As well as excluding crap you don't want, unlike mainstream comp manufacturers) I like to have my case, motherboard, chip, fans, and RAM pre-assembled, and I use Cyberpower. I only work with Cards and Drives. I don't like messing with Thermal Paste and all that crap. Though I could probably save money if I did, but I'm a lazy, lazy man. Anyone else use Custom PC companies to save them work? If so, which ones? Websites, please. |

Nvidia are the only reasonable card for linux I am told, since ATI has appauling linux driver support  If you own a 64bit machine, currently only a couple of OSs are 64bit, meaning its not so bad.
And no unfortunately, I don't know many custom pc companies (beyond AlienWare etc.), since I don't think that's the best way to go about it. Custom PC = do it yourself, so it kind of spoils the fun for me. |

only ever bought one PC myself (my 1st ) ever since have built all myself - as spud says is teh fun part, most ppl i know(and the majority of those i don't) r too scared 2 do so themselves - then again if they really knew how easy pc's are to build (and fix) these days i'd be outta work

I like building PC's too, but the motherboard/chip/cooling thing is a little intimidating. I mean, you're not just clicking boards into place or making sure the jumpers and cables are correct on the drive. You are using Thermal Paste, or that liquid Die Cooling stuff. And Chips have brackets. And complicated stuff like that that I don't know how to do. And the problem with trying without knowing how is that I could break something, and breaking something means I'm out a hundred dollars, which is a lot of money to me right now. Or I can just go the easy way and get Cyberpowerpc to do it all for me:) I suppose I could also just buy hardware and have some computer guy in town put it together. You think a private comp shop or a CompUSA or somethin would do that for me for not too much? |

building is really very simple once you learn what to do and how to do it. the only thing I have broken myself and I see as something that could break when installing, is the CPU (not a big deal right?  )
I don't know how they make cpu's and coolers these days but more than a few years ago the install method of a Socket A cooler could, well, rather easily break the cpu core in the process. It hasn't changed from that visually at least, but maybe they have fixed something. And I'm not saying it happened with all coolers in the first place. But I'm sure others have experienced that the installation of a Socket A cooler can be a violent one.

one of my friends, who was building the pc himself, was having trouble with a new heatsink. He ended up phoning me up going on about how it was bust, went there, took one look at it and he was shorting the motherboard, since the heatsink touched the back of the case. Rest assured I laughed at him, then stuck a bit of foam there 
Its easy these days to build up, but some people are just dumb
