Post subject:  BT usage caps

Goodbye BT. They sent me an e-mail today and the cap is starting from 1st April appropriately enough. Both the 512k and 1MB services are increasing to 2MB, the caps being 15 & 30GB per month respectively, and that includes upload and download. They haven't set the price yet for additional usage but suggest ?2 per gig. Yeah right, it would have been fantastic without the caps, 2GB for 30 quid, but enough is enough. I'll be contacting Bulldog this weekend, what about other BT users?

just called BT to confirm this, anyone who signed up after the 16th of Feb 2005 already has the above cap limit in place, anyone who signed up before this won't have the caps until May/June 2005 (thats across the board on every account regardless of how long you've been a customer).

The bulldog service is looking like the best option, i can't get the 4mb + phoneline cheap package, its not yet available in my area, so i'm looking at either the 1MB for ?30 per month or the 2MB for ?40 per month packages, and keeping my phone line (as in phonecalls to other people) with BT. This will be more expensive than the ?50 i pay at the moment, but will be cheaper than if i stay with BT and go over the caps (i DL 80GB last month that ?24.99 for 15GB then 65GB at ?2 (if thats the final price per gig), thats a stonking ?154.99 per month!)

i had to explain to the guy from BT broadband what a cap was, and spell it, then he put me through to customer services because he didn't know?

i also asked bulldog if they have any plans to introduce said caps, they said no. (she knew what a cap was incidently!)

BT will only lose a small amopunt of customers, most of the average users wil never know.

Incidentally, my ISP TeleWest BlueYonder still insist they have no plans to introduce caps, but the day they do my TV, fone and net accounts will be changing. I only put up with the shitty TV cos I am too lazy to change, but mess with my net and the fuckers will know about it.

Even a 30 Gig cap would be useless to me.

Bulldog is a good bet if you can get their unbundled service, but sometimes they have to go through bt's technology. Whilst I've had no problems with them, I have heard people complaining.

Nilldram and pipex are good but more expensive.

ps. the bulldog people will know because last year they had huge problems with customer services and to solve the problem, they now double up their technicians and some of them work part time on the phones. So they tend to know slightly more than BT, who all live in india now

BLueyonder copy NTL, NTL copy BT (that's a policy btw, they've said they will match everything BT does, but cheaper :o )

having read that site i'm not so sure about bulldog now? all of the reviews of the service are either 'terrible speed and ignored complaint emails' or 'fast speeds and plenty of help' does anyone else use bulldog? or recommend any better services?
