I heard nice stuff about it, yes (from you too). Just got around trying it out but something's not right. After the preparation step, i click encode but i get an error. Log says: [23:49:22] Phase I, PREPARATION started. - "Steal Space from Extras" mode is enabled. - VTS_01: 3.516.506 sectors. -- Scanning and writing .D2V file -- Processed 256.599 frames. -- Building .AVS and .ECL files - Reduction Level for DVD-5: 58,6% - Overall Bitrate : 2.725Kbs - Space for Video : 3.413.906KB - Movie improvement from extra reduction = ,0% - HIGH/LOW/AVERAGE Cell Bitrates: 3.893/1.736/2.725 Kbs [23:58:49] Phase I, PREPARATION completed in 9 minutes. Aborted. Do you, spud or anyone else, have any idea on this? |

I'm still using Intervideo DVD copy 3, anyone know how that shapes up these days? V2 was the best app out there but that was before DVD rebuilder. Isn't DVD rebuilder slow though? Maybe it's time to give my A64 something to get its teeth into ![]() |

What encoder are you using? CCE? If so, which version? |
Author: | D. [ Wed Apr 06, 2005 9:36 am ] |

CCE SP V 2.50.01.00. I first used the CCE SP (2.50) option in DVD-RB. Now i'm trying again with CCE SP ticked. |

If you are using CCE 2.5 or a TRIAL version of CCE 2.66 or greater you need to use EclCCE. |

i'm really looking forward to the second part of the test. because there'll probably be a comparison between dvd-rb and nero recode. i recently made a dvd copy of donnie darko with these two programs and i honestly didn't see much of a difference on both my pc monitor and a widescreen tv. but rb took about 4 hours to reencode and nero just something over half an hour! what both programs still lack imo is to completely delete extras. rb just decreases the extras' quality and with nero you can fill in a picture or a color to fill the space, which gives you a bit more space for the main title. |

erm, actually: ![]() ![]() Oh and I bet nero recode is pretty low, I can sure as hell see a difference between CCE and recode! Remember Donnie Darko, is well dark ![]() Recode has got the speed issue though, but as I'll say below, I'm never around when i do encoding, its a waste of a pc encoding whilst your sat at it ![]()
DVD copy 3 is behind Instant Copy still, so there's not much point. DVD rebuilder isn't slow; CCE is slow; but you have batch process in dvdrebuilder, once you setup the project you can do hundreds in a row without pause or setup stages if that got you thingy up. I generally don't sit there pissing around encoding while I want to use my pc though, normally people i would assume click encode and go to bed, or at least that's what I do. If you want to loose your edge, don't use cce, use qu since that's a lot faster, but then you loose quality and that's kind of not the point of dvd-rb, the point is the best possible backups with little fuss. |

till now i have only watched one movie in its full length that's been done with nero, and that was clay pigeons which isn't dark at all. i watched it on a widescreen tv and haven't noticed one single artifact. i recently also reencoded the matrix 2+3. now i'm really wondering how these two are gonna look. if i do indeed find out that the quality isn't as good as with cce i'm definitely going to use the slower cce again. quality is much dearer to me than speed. oh, and it's great that the option of using blank extras does exist. ![]() |

unfortunately you have to donate to get it though, but its one of those apps i don't mind donating a bit for. Did it for EMM and digiguide. Wow, now that i think about it i've paid for 3 bits of software! I'm going to have to sit down ![]() |

ah yes, dvd.box.sk two comments: 1) its dvd.box.sk , no offense guys 2) is it just me or is that article dated "Feb, 9 2004" ![]() You even ommited to mention that they also admitted its a flawed test and they tested the wrong version: http://dvd.box.sk/articles12.php?stranka=10
its two articles up, worth taking a look. I'm not exactly sure which is better, although i've repeatedly read of Instantcopy's superiority, and way back when i used to use it, this was for sure it was better quality. Now its just fighting over scraps, both are worse than some of the alternatives. |

Nice one nhbkid. And yes DVD-RB is miles better than anything else out there at the moment. DVDshrink lusers will still argue the toss though. How many passes are the norm? I set mine to 3, maybe 4, but I've also seen 9 pass encodes for release stuff - overkill maybe?? |

Well what shrink did to my family guy discs was what soured me off it forever more. Was much worse then even that ![]() I leave mine on 3 too, 9 pass takes ages, but your not going to get any better if you spend that much time on it. Its like in xvid encodes, if you want absolute best quality, put VHQ to highest... see you in 8hrs+ lol |

The program now supports output to iso if i read the options of the new verison right. Trying it now with a batch... I hope it works else its just wasted ages! BTW. done some reading, apparantly, 2 passes is all that's needed in CCE given the first pass does all the work. The quality of a 3rd+ pass is minimal. This is according to what i've read on doom9.org forums anyway. |

1. have you processed the vobs? ie. ripped them to your hard drive with DVD decrypter? They must have the protection removed. I think you can use anydvd too, but dvddecrypter is a better bet 2. Your using the latest version of dvddecrypter right? There was a bug in an old version that didn't rip the right GOP size. I made loads of rips until i found out i got the same message. Had to upgrade DVDdecrypter and rerip the vobs ![]() |

Spud, that "Movies & menus only" option must be in the pro version only, it's not in the free one. ![]() Also, when I ran a recode through it I got several error messages about a file being accessed by another program and then another error at the end, resulting in a VOB set which Nero reports as not DVD compatible. Burned it to disc and Nero was right. ![]() Using CCE 2.67 (cracked trial)+ Ecl. Any ideas? |
