Post subject:  Stand Alone Divx Players

I just had to share my joy. I have recently bought a DVD player that can play Divx and Xvid. (Am I a bit behind the times?) I love it. Rather than being the only one willing to watch Divx films on my computer I can now share the entertainment and play these films in the living room with guests. Although most friends think my film taste a little odd!

Life is Good, I don't care what you say.

Well, congratulations. I bought an Xbox especially for this purpose and it works great, plays almost everything i put in, except for some movies which don't for some unknown reason.

I've looked at that D. I think it's something to do with the audio, I'll take a (proper) look later and let you know if I find anything, can you PM me a list of those that don't work though please mate.

Mmm yes, my standalone DiVX player also plays games, can stream Media content from my PC and can connect via FTP to the PC. It's an xbox ;)

Recent 1 cd Crew rips and a certain STR ripper (:P )are infamous for being standalone incompatible :wacky:

Yeah, We know. Ironically, he's the only one of us that actually OWNS a standalone

I think I know what the problem is though and it shouldn't be too hard to fix for the older rips

I've had a Yamada 6100 for a while now, some of the newer rips I've tried to watch don't work very well (not STR rips).

The display doesn't work after I updated the firmwarem and the control buttons on the player dont work anymore either.

May have to update to an XBOX, or a newer Yamada.

OK, I've just messed about with The Virgin of nuremberg and, it used to freeze at ~1:33 (at the point where the womand lights the candle and starts down the hall).

This has fixed it for me, if you try it, can you let me know if it fixes it for you as well please.

Open VirtualDubMod (if you don't have it get if from http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virt ... p?download)
Select File and open the non working rip
Say "No" to the dialogue box about re-writing the header (if applicable)
Select Streams > Stream list
Select the audio stream and press "Demux" , choose a file name and wait for it to finish (I used moviename.audio.mp3)
Select the audio stream again and press "Disable" then click OK
Select File > Save As choose a filename (movename.video.avi), make SURE that you select "Direct Stream Copy" under the video mode drop box and click Save

When that has finished, load Moviename.video.avi
select Streams > Stream List and click "Add"
Add the file moviename.audio.mp3 (again say no to rewrite the header and OK to the Warning box about non constand MP3)
click OK and the File > Save As
Again make sure "direct stream copy" is selected and save as movienamed.fixed.avi

Wait for it to finish, watch and enjoy

It looks complicated, but it's VERY easy and takes ~10 minutes at the most

**This will change the hash of the file, so it gets you off the hook on reshares** ;)

Every film I put in the ol' stand alone works so far, even old, old downloads, things that didn't play too well on my clapped out PC work wonerfully.

Joy, pure simple, joy!

Brutus, what make is your DIVX player and is it multi-region for normal DVDV's?

Author:  Brutus [ Thu May 19, 2005 10:57 am ]
Post subject:

I recently bought a Philips DVP5100 for ?68. It isn't multi region yet but I'm sure a hack will be available soon, apparently the DVP5100 was released in April 05.

I also hear that a well known British supermarket chain A**A sell a Divx Xvid DVD player reduced from ?42 to ?35 called Dual DVD859. This one doesn't play subtitles though, whereas my baby does.

Like the great Bill Hicks said, 'Anyone in advertising or marketing kill yourselves, you're off the artistic role call for life...'

I am not promoting these products, don't all rush out and buy one.

If you have any of these rips Brutus, could you give 'em a whirl please? :

Blood.and.Black.Lace.(1964).DvDRip.XviD.=STR=.EuroUncut.avi
Empire.of.the.Ants.(1977).DvDRip.XviD.=STR=.avi
Paganini.Horror.(1989).DvDRip.Xvid.=STR=.avi
Phantom.of.Death.1988.DvDrip.Xvid.=STR=.avi

I'd be interested to see if they work

I gave Blood and Black Lace a quick try, the only one on the list I have. The sound appears to be faulty, it begins stuttering, I FF then there is no sound. Picture quality is good though!

I thought that may be the case.

Could I trouble you to try the fix in this thread to see if it fixes the problem, Sorry to be a pain, but I want to make sure that the fix definately works

PCA, I had a quick look at VDub, it's going to take me about 30-40mins, slow PC I'm afraid (or slow operator). I'm off on a day trip to the seaside so I will attempt the fix in the early evening tonight and report back. fingers crossed!

Thanks Brutus, much appreciated :beerchug:

Enjoy your day at the Seaside, hope you've got better weather there than I have here though!
