Has anyone installed this software? I have to say its pretty cool. There's a free version or pro versions on torrent/emule with a bit of scouting. Basically its a massive mapping system with 3d and satellite imagery. Its brand new so the database isn't that huge (although you can scan round the globe and see all the funky places, even if the coverage isn't 100% yet). I believe they plan on having 3d landscapes and everything eventually, and it looks like the pro version has GPS. Here's a picture of Area 51 for everyone anyway: ![]() ![]() ps. some co-ordinates: http://dahson.dk/earth/ |

Have you tried any other software of this kind? NASA's World Wind (http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/) for instance? Is this Google's effort any better? |

Not really, i used pocket earth and a few other GPS tools but they weren't as good as googles effort. I'll try that one and report back. Just to be clear Google Earth is all about searching, its like a 3d total coverage road map. You can see the key to the left. |

Had this installed for a week or so now. It is so cool. Certain cities, New York for example, will render the buildings in 3D if you toggle the option on. Seems to be only the major capitals that have much definition to the satellite pictures, my house is just a blur. ![]() |

unless you live in a major city, you'll be out of luck... unless the whole place suddenly turned into a big green low resolution square like my town has. ![]() |

Theres a cracked pay version on bit torrent sites too, it adds a few features like GPS but thats advanced. But the free version has pretty much everything as is my understanding Given its appeal and popularity at the moment, hopefully the mapping will greatly improve over time. |

It's addictive as hell. I was trying to find the Nazca Lines and stumbled across a Huge Face on the desert - need to re-install it and post a screen shot. Some guy posted it on Coast to Coast - I knew I should have posted it online when I found it. Missed my 15 mins. If you find Alcatraz you can see the wake from small speedboats - pretty impressive. I couldn't seem to find the Great Wall of China though. Which you would think should be easy to spot. Like Father Ted says "You can see it from anywhere in the World". |
