Frankly I'm getting a bit bogged down trying to fathom out exactly which psp to buy. Basically regarding firmware and screen make.

Should I get a UK one, or are these completely locked down regarding games/movies.

Or, get a JAP v1.5 version. It appears any version upto 1.5 is unlocked to games running on the memory stick. Is this true?

Also the Jap ones have screens made by Sharp, which from ads on ebay is better than the UK one.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated. I don't want to blow ?170 on a lemon.

lol you might want to interpret the silence as my initial response, why on earth would you want to buy one of those pieces of crap?

Totally waste of money, and doesn't deserve your time. If your really interested in a hand held gizmo, look at PocketPCs.

Anyone who buys a UMD version of a movie has a serious screw lose, such a crappy format with a tiny resolution, isn't worth 2p.

The Jap Value pack costs ~?110 in Japan. Bear that in mind when looking at the eBay prices. ;)

Erm this is for my son, not me!! He wants one, and I want to make sure HE gets the right one - ie one that is unlocked.

well i reiterate its not a problem if you can't watch video form a certain reason since its a really silly idea to buy such crappy quality, especially when you can make files that play for free:

I know that spud, I've already got PSP Video 9 and Xilisofts PSP video converter. I certainly have no intention of buying anything, games or movies (unless it's something worth the money) - maybe I wasn't clear enough in my first post.

All I really wanted was some experiences/advice off people who already have one, particularly firmware version (and their limitations), screen makes, fast loaders.

From a little reading on the subject :

ALL UK PSP's are totally locked down, however TeamXecuter has the means to downgrade the PSP and will release it soon.

You need firmware 1.5 and lower to be able to "open up" your PSP, however some games feature a firmware updater and should be avoided as they will not work on earlier firmwares and will update them(!)

As for the Fastloader there's a compatibilty list :

Who knows - there have been so many fake claims already regarding v2.0.

I've got a nice juicy v1.50, rx'ed today.

Here's a confirmed working firmware downgrader V2 firmware down to V1.5.

http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=10083

Not tried it myself as I have a V1.5 PSP, it was an original V1 Japanese but no homebrew runs very well on V1 anymore so had to upgrade.

UK PSP's will play original games from any region (checked a mates with Wipeout Pure USA), there was a rumour that they wouldn't thats why I got my Jap PSP.

Yeah seems like the v2.0 downgrader works :D Now all we need is 1.50 hack to give full v2.0 functionality
