Does it have to be 19"?

Firstly, if your not that desperate, SED technology is looming, I just read about it and it sounds like something great at last. its basically all the size, weight, etc. gains of TFT, but using CRT technology which means you get no ghosting, screen burn, real black, etc.

Secondly, if you've not owned an lcd, look at my ranting here:
http://www.fileheaven.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=58409
I should note i own and like TFTs for the gains, although it would be wrong for me to say that they don't have the flaws they do.

Thirdly, i'm a big fan of Dell's work, they offer great value, lots and lots of core functions, decent performance and... well they look good. i have a DELL 2001fp (20") and its getting on now, there are better, newer dell monitors out. There's some neat widescreen onces. Large native resolution which maybe bad if you skimp on graphics cards and are an active gamer, other wise its a huge bonus.

As far as 17" go, I believe illyama are still best, however they tend not to go into the bigger monitor markets.

Well, I'm going from a 19" Iiyama CRT, so I was looking for something similar in screen size (differences in visible screen size taken as read). I use the machine for CAD work, so large screen is size is paramount. It's more for space than anything else, my current CRT is very bulky and takes up loads of room. I've been looking at the Iiyama 19" TFT's and they look pretty good, but nowhere seems to have the black one in stock. :(

I'll have a look at the Dells too, and maybe I'll read "Spud's War & Peace on LCD Monitors" when I have a spare day.

Thanks for the pointers. :beerchug:

Hmm, looking at CustomPC magazine last night and their top pick is a Viewsonic 17" LCD, with the 20" VP201B as the pick for larger size.

Certainly the VX924 19" looks promising, especially as it has a 4ms response time. Native resolution is 1280x1024

I've got that Viewsonic and it's excellent. It supposedly got rerated to 3ms but that sounds more like creative marketing stretching the truth. There's a later VX922 now with 2ms, but I can't imagine there's a visible difference.

I took delivery of my VX924 today. Had it hooked up to a colleague's Mac and even without any calibration it looked very bright and vibrant (if a little over saturated in colour).
