Anyways, the sci-fi/hallmark Dune is better, that and children of dune are the best ones out there If you like Herbert's dune go for those ones

I watched the first episode of this last night, Jesus it's awful. The political intrigue of the book is non existant, Paul Atriedes is some awful sullen 20 something, characters who play pivotal roles are wheeled in, perform their (important) function only to die / never be seen again (specifically Dr Yueh), the direction is leaden, the script tedious (and obviously written by someone who either doesn't understand the book, or thinks his target audience don't), the costumes are inapropriate and there are moments that are just plain WRONG (Muad dib does NOT mean Prophet as in the mini series it means "Desert Mouse")

I'll probably finish watching it, but so far, the book has been gutted and had its soul removed by Hallmark/ Scifi. There is NO political plotting, no characterisation, not even much entertainment value.

I'm astounded you recommended this spud, I can only assume it gets MUCH MUCH better because, based on the first episode, it's piss poor.

I found myself comparing the series to the Lynch version, once I stopped doing that and took it for it's own beast I found I actually enjoyed it. :D

Well, I didn't like the Lynch version at all, perhaps that's the reason I liked the series.

I got both Lynch versions and like them both, although they are still way incomplete from the book form as is the series but with something like that you can't really expect miracles here. It is not however Lynch's best film..in fact I would put Sleepy Hollow over dune for that sake.

mmm Episode 2 is SIGNIFICANTLY better then the first, it's still soulless (something which the Lynch film wasn't) and whoever wrote the script is incapable of introducing characters in a sensible fashion but it's a damn sight better than the first episode.

Lynch's version was pretty terrible. The mini-series is better than lynch's monstrously boring and daft film once it gets going. Children of Dune is so much better than Dune, which is better than lynch's film. I never recommended them, and I never said they were good ;)

Did you read that quote out of couriousity? You need to catch up on your comprehension work young man, "it's the best out there" doesn't mean its good, I said nothing of the sort, it means its the best out there (although I was referring to Children of Dune, which is a significant improvement). Which it is.

Honestly, I thought the Dune series was okay, the children of Dune series was quite good, and the Lynch version was pretty bad. :)

Just to clarify, are you watching Dune or Children of Dune? Whilst I condone no version of the first, Children of Dune was rather enjoyable :)

Dune, christ it's bad.

I've only got one episode left (which by most accounts is a good one) then the nightmare is over ;)

yeah, i've seen it a few times so saying it was terrible is harsh. But I don't think he should have been director. There were a lot moee people more suitable for the project I thought, and in a complex structure such as those contained with in the Dune novels, I think that David Lynch's approach was all wrong. Someone with vision but coherrancy and consistancy would have been a lot better choice.
