Brainscan (1994): In this movie Edward Furlong plays a bored teenager who has seen them all. All horror movies and games. Nothing can scare him. Nothing but the latest virtual reality game called Brainscan. The game alters your reality by letting you experience everything as real. Unfortunately murders happening in the game also start happening in real life. Is it all in his head? What is wrong here? Oh and what about his sexy neighbor? Find it out yourself. This is a nicely done little horror movie.

A History of Horror with Mark Gatiss - a 3 part documentary by a British horrorfan. He shows parts of his favourite movies adn in the meantime tells something about the evolution of horror. The first part is about the 20s, 30s and 40s. The second part is about the 50s and 60s and the last part is about the 70s. In the first two parts he focusus almost entirely on Britain and in part 3 he focuses on the US. This is my major resentment of this documentary, as he only mentions Italian cinema briefly, a big shame, imo. But, apart from that it is a nicely done documentary and it shows some nice moments of horror history. Recommended.

Grandma's House - two kids lose both their parents so they are gonna live with their grandparents. Soon the boy sees them dragging a body into the basement. What is going on? Are his grandparents (serial) killers? Nice storyline with a good twist, it is a bit surprising even. Atmosphere is nice and overall this is an enjoyable watch. Recommended.

Megiddo: The Omega Code 2 - the world is being taken over by satan who uses a guy to become the world's union leader, a dictator a la Hitler. The totalitarianism is nicely set up, the blackmailing thing is OK (it is a copy from The Running Man), the combat scenes are straightforward with exaggerated amounts of explosions, and the cgi is very very ugly. The message is clear: if you believe in god, then all will be well. So if you're in for some nice christian propaganda and you want it all blown up to megalomaniacal proportions, watch this one.

La Saga de los Dracula - very nice gothic horrorfilm from Spain. It takes a while before something scary happens after the opening scene, but the atmosphere is great and acting is as well. The vampires are portrayed as diseased people instead of carnivorous monsters, which is a nice insight. The plot is not very convincing, but it is a nice solution to conclude the film with. Recommended.

Hatchet - when I'm about to watch a slasher I always expect it to be lame for some weird reason. Well, this one isn't lame. It starts up good, then it dwindles down a bit. The tour with the boat and the Asian guy as a tourguide is a bit of a lull in the film. Then, when they get stranded, the fun starts: the killer is coming at them and apart from the gory killings there are some good jokes. The killer leaves enough victims so you can have a nice guessing game about who is gonna survive. I had picked two, but well, was I right or not? The ending is quite abrupt, I don't like that kind of endings, it leaves me wanting. But then again, it has some charm too. Recommended.

Teenage Caveman - Arkoff classic from the 50s. It has this "The Land That Time Forgot" feeling all over it, and that is charming. The storyline is overly simple at first glance, the monsters look like you would expect from a 50s movie, there is a hint at nuclear usage and in the end the plot has a nice twist: I didn't see it coming at all. Shame that only the last 5 minutes are so interesting while the rest of the movie is mediocre at best. Well, it seems to be a property of these films: they end with the best part. Somehow cleverly done.

Exam (2009): 8 people are taking part in a job assessment. They are given 80 minutes in a closed room with one question to answer as they believe. But as they turn the sheet lying in front of them, they find it empty. So before they can figure out the answer, they have to figure out the question. Some of them are trying to cooperate and some turn out to be psychos. Interesting low budget movie with some nice ideas and twists. It all takes place in that very room and gets a bit gassy near the middle, but I would recommend it.

Yes, thanks for the heads up. I moved it.

Rabid Grannies - nice and over the top Troma film. It has to start up for some 30 minutes, but after that there is so much fun and gore to enjoy, you easily forget you had to wait half an hour. The grannies are actually aunts, but that doesn't sound so cool, that's why they gave it this title. I loved the way one of them still keeps killing casually while mortally wounded. Recommended for anyone not looking for anything seriously.

House on Sorority Row - a nice 80s slasher, but the outcome was very predictable after the opening story. There are many girls to get killed and so the slasher hacks his way through the sorority like no tomorrow. A prank goes wrong and then we get to see kills after kills after kills in a nice atmosphere. The girls are all very 80s and I only liked one of them. Music was good, and although the ending was not very original (maybe it was back then, in the 80s), I still recommend this one.

Demonicus - wow, this was bad. Not only the film, also the disc. I couldn't rewind, select a scene or play forward slowly (I don't know how to explain this feature on my DVD player, but it is a ffwd, but not so fast so you actually can follow what happens onscreen). Then the film: a group of hikers hikes in the mountains and is gonna meet each other at a certain point. One of them finds a plastic helmet right out of a toyshop, puts it on his head and bam: he is a gladiator from Roman times. The film is set in Italy, but I never got the feeling that we were actually there: it felt very North American to me. The gladiator then starts babbling Latin and although the sentences aren't complete gibberish (only a bit stupid), they become so by repeating them endlessly, and there are only three variants. The goal of the gladiator is to revive an old god, and for this he needs human flesh. Yawn. Lots of goofs and mistakes, of which I will share one here: in the beginning of the movie, some of the hikers are missing, so others are gonna look for them. It is n the middle of the night. They are close to their campsite. Then they hear a scream, they start running for the campsite and when they arrive: it is broad daylight! Wow! Of course this is a well known mistake, but this one was so blatant that I had to post it. Thus, recommended for bad moviefans only.

Patrick - this 1978 flick is about a comatose patient who can only spit. A new nurse is gonna take care of him and she finds out that there is more to him than just being comatose and spit from time to time. It is a slow and atmospheric film, you really have to take your time for it. So,me might feel that they don't get rewarded for it, but I think you do, as there are some nice killings involved and there are some moments of tension. Not the best, but creepy enough.

edit: I saw the ending later than I did the movie, because my DVD lacks the final scene.

The ending is great. It concludes this creepy movie nicely. Recommended!

Roommate 2011

The story, what a surprise, about a roommate. The girl comes into college or university and after short period of time, theres comes her new roommate. Allcause, strange one. I can not remember the title now, but i think i allready soad this conception. Roommate has a secret notebook. After a while we find out - its nothing interesting. No gore - through it could have been. No boobs. Through there is this big boobs label chick from "Easy A" movie. So, simple, enough, my verdict: boooring. Sexy - but not naked - girls; and thats all.

This one was really ok. Interesting and different story. And Mandy Lane is really hot. And theres some cow-sematary. I think i could say "watch it". Btw, i love the title.

Cries of Innocence - WIP movie which is very long and stretched out. This goes as far as that the film repeats itself literally, in showing some scenes two or three times. A group of women is captive in a world which is taken from Mad Max: water is scarce and criminals are in charge of it. There is a resistance group fighting against them and helping the women to get out. The action scenes are very SBiG and there is a lot of nudity. Recommended for bad moviefans. Expect a rip in a few weeks.

A Blade in the Dark - Lamberto Bava's second film and it is a bit like Psycho. This film is too long, imo. The tension goes away after a certain point as it is easy to guess the killer. Not really my cup of tea, this one, but it isn't bad. There is some good acting and the music is OK.

Horror of Frankenstein - a version of Frankenstein in which the monster only appears after an hour and gets not so much screentime. That's a bit stupid. Acting is good, atmosphere is not really gripping, as in other Hammer classics. So if you're into watching a Hammer film, pick a different one.

The Torturer - another Lamberto Bava film. This one wasn't as good as Blade in the Dark, as it is quite boring. The torture scenes look like Bava tried to make a Saw film and he shouldn't do that. Again it is easy to guess the killer, even easier than in Blade... I won't recommend this, as it is the worst Bava I have seen so far.

Ghoulies II - really cool Charles Band picture about the ghoulies who revive the success of the ghosthouse in a carnival. The carnival needs it because the heir of the owner wants to see profit asap. He doesn't have feelings for his personnel and the ghoulies will notice that. Funny stuff, nice monsters and some gore make this an enjoyable mix. Recommended.

You have to be patient, some others are coming first. In the meantime, you could write a review for Sugar Boxx ;)

Little Shop of Horrors - I hate musicals. I have seen several, from Evil Dead the Musical through Ilsa Queen of the Nazi Love Camp to Repo! The Genetic Opera. I can add Little Shop of Horrors to this list now. What annoys me about musicals is that when the actors are playing a scene that they start to sing all of a sudden. It disturbs me. Well, this musical is a bit OK. It has charm. Rick Moranis is great as the florist's assistant. Steve Martin is great as the dentist with the rock and roll look. The plant is cool enough. But, everything else is a bit meh. I really, really disliked the Audrey character and the storyline isn't very surprising. Then the singing... But OK, like I said, it has some charm all over it, which makes up for a good deal. Still, it isn't a favourite of mine. The only musical which I actually found funny was Evil Dead the Musical. I have to see Cannibal the Musical yet, so it might be that I like that one too.

Mmm, well, I didn't register South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut in my mind as a musical. Might have something to do with the fact that I liked that one and I hate musicals. Mmm, Freud?

RHPS is for annoying people who learn audience participation by heart because their lives are so empty.

I had a movienight yesterday with some friends over.

Men Behind the Sun 2: laboratory of the devil - it was a pretty long while ago that I had seen Men Behind the Sun, so I was curious about this one had to offer. At first, I thought it was very boring. There are flashbacks inside flashbacks, making it a bit confusing to follow the storyline. The ugly dubbing is funny. After a while, we get to see some stuff which made part 1 famous: medical experiments on Chinese. In one scene a doctor strips the skin of the arms of a Chinese while he is still alive, that was kind of gross. More of this stuf follows, but it is a bit tamer than part 1. Also, the music which comes with the dubbed track is super irritating. The ending is very dramatic and overdone. Recommended for some sick stuff, all the rest is boring and forgettable. Maybe watch a trailer of this one instead.

The Necro Files - a rapist gets killed by the police, but when a group of satanists sacrifice a baby in a cemetery, the rapist resurrects and starts going on a raping spree. The cops, two guys who say "Fuck!" and "Goddamn'it!" almost every other second and one of which is on dope all the time, go after him once more. This is total weirdness. I have seen a lot of things, but I never saw a lesbian scene between a girl and a rubber doll before. Also, the ghost of the sacrificed baby flying around in hot pursuit of the rapist was, well, not everyday stuff. Recommended if you want to see something different. Be warned that it is not a good movie or anything but just very, very weird. I'm ripping this one atm. Expect a rip in a month or something like that.

Necro Files 2: lust never dies - a rerun of part 1. Almost everything returns: the spanking scene, the cops, the revived rapist, etc. The drugged cop looks a little less like Dirty Harry this time. He lost his glasses and the other cop shaved his moustache. The novelty in this one is a rapescene in which a girl gets raped by the chopped off dick of her boyfriend. Guess who chopped it off... Again, not a good movie but very strange. I'm ripping this one atm. Expect a rip in a month or something like that.

Hora - at first I had put this one on the "to pick" list for my friends, but I removed it because it wasn't really fitting the genre of fake snuff, shockumentary and necrohorror. But we watched it anyway. I was right about it not fitting the genre. This revengefilm takes ages to build up: after almost an hour there hasn't even been a rape let alone the revenge for it. The revenge itself is OK, but since it took so very very long to get there, there is only little time to spend on it, which is a shame. So, it was OK, but it took too long to get some action. Go for a different revengefilm if you can.

The Killing of Satan aka Lumaban ka Satanas - this Filippino movie was kind of hard to follow for me. Maybe it was the time of the night, or the cultural differences between me and the Filippines. But, in short: there is a devil and he has minions and there is a guy named Lando fighting them all. He does so with orange beams from his hand and other fancy stuff. The devil itself looks ridiculous, a guy in a spandex suit with cheap fire effects. The ending was a bit weird, I didn't get it. A storm blows over, Lando finds some sort of voodoo doll and then the film ends. Recommended for bad moviefans. I got this one ripped waiting for release. Expect it somewhere next month.

Them! - nice 50s classic monster movie with atomic references, like you would expect. The storyline is OK, there are a lot of worse 50s films than this one. The monsters (large ants) look pretty good for the era, but aren't realistic or anything. I really liked the part in which the ants move to the city and are menacing the population of LA. Pretty good, if you want scifi monster stuff, go watch this one.

Cherry, Harry and Raquel - one of the first movies for Charles Napier and he must have enjoyed it a lot, as he is playing a cop who does it with almost every woman in the film. In the meantime he is chasing an Apache, exhanging fire with him, losing his mexican buddy to the violence of this same Apache and dealing with a guy who is sick in bed. Unusually violent, this Meyer film. More tits than in the 60s films and more storyline too. In the end it is some sort of an action movie with some naked women here and there.

Jennifer - a girl (Jennifer) gets a scholarship for a school where she is the only not very rich kid. The queenbee of the other girls hates her and wants her out so she starts doing pranks, some of which are pretty gruesome. Jennifer's father is very religious and it turns out that she once was part of some sort of cult with snakes. She has some ssort of power over them. She doesn't want to be involved in the cult anymore, but when the pranks keep hurting her, what can she do? Buildup is nice, there is some tension. The climax could have been better, as could the snake action. But, enjoyable nonetheless. A rip of this will come out May, June.

Its one of those films to kill off arguments like "sequels are never better than the original":
All musicals are crap -> South Park

:)

if it was Freud you'd have slept with someone/something whilst watching a musical.
