Severance - great film! I love this one! A business trip of seven colleagues who work at a weapons company ends up in bloodshed somewhere in eastern Europe. Although the location is a bit cliche (or maybe it is a wink at Hostel), the humour is great. I laughed a few times, one time the film really cracked me up (near the end - bazooka scene, I won't say more). The first hour is to build up, but there is plenty to smile/laugh at already. The last half hour is great, I cannot do anything else than recommend it highly!

Lorelei, the witch of the Pacific Ocean - this is a war/scifi film, with a German made submarine in Japanese hands during World War II. Their mission is to save Japan from defeat in the dying days of the conflict, with the help of a secret weapon. This secret weapon makes it a bit more scifi, the rest of the film is mostly a not so very realistic warmovie, but that isn't a problem as long as you don't expect to see one. The actionscenes are quite nice, but the cgi kicks in ugly at times. There are some nice plottwists, but not in the horror/scifi way of doing. Quite enjoyable, but I would not recommend it to horrorfans pur sang, as it isn't really horror. The Legend of the Chupacabra - gory Troma filmed in a Blair Witch kind of way, but way more exaggerated of course, with cryptozoologists searching for the chupacabra monster. Well, they find him and the gore begins. Especially the last part doesn't go without any of it, frame after frame is filled to the rim It is fun to see how they are spoofing BWP a bit, I thought some stuff was really funny. One of the funnier/better Tromas, recommended.

I will pull The Legend of the Chupacabra out of the heap. I've had that lying around for years. I've been watching a bunch of fanedited films lately: http://www.fanedit.infoWhile not all fanedits are successful, they have been giving me reasons to check back yet again with some of those classics that you've seen more times you can remember. The best one I've seen as of yet, has been ARMY OF DARKNESS – PRIMITIVE SCREWHEAD EDITION BY RIDGESHARK - which simply edits all available scenes back into the movie, making it the most complete Army of Darkness version around.

Shriek if you know what I did last Friday the 13th - a spoof movie which takes on Friday the 13th, I know what you did..., Scream, Saturday Night Fever, Christine, Child's Play, etc. Some jokes are funny, actually a good deal of them were better than I expected. I went in with low expectations because this kind of spoof horror so often fails miserably. Tiffany Amber Thiessen performs well in this one, and so do several other actors/actresses. Some jokes are supposed to be becoming running gags while the movie develops, but most of these aren't funny anymore after having seen them twice. However it is still fun to check out which movies you recognise. I thought this was funnier than Scary Movie. Mildly recommended.

Coffy - cool blacksploitation flick with Pam Grier as an angel of revenge, killing off all criminals who had something to do with dope. She does so because her little sister's life is ruined by it. Inbetween the killings she spends her time with two men, a cop who used to be her lover and a politician who is her new lover. She shares her thoughts of her fight against dope with them, and she hopes to win it together with them. The murders are all accompanied by some tough talk of "Momma Pam" which raises the campy atmosphere. I enjoyed this a lot, so I recommend this one.
Deadly Species - looking at the cover and reading that this takes place in the Everglades, I thought the monster would be some sort of fish. Well, I was wrong. It is some kind of generic monster which looks pretty ridiculous. The "best" parts of this movie when you can't see it. The storyline is filled with cliches, the ambitious professor who desn't get a funding for his research is of course called on the same day by a rich guy who offers him the money but of course has a double agenda. Wow, that was so unoriginal it almost became original again. The professor and his funder go into the Everglades to find stuff (they are both looking for different things) and after the monster has found them we get some action, but nothing much. The ending was supercheesy, with morale being thrown in your face. Only for bad moviefans, you might not survive if you expect something serious in this.

The Devil's Tomb - a group of soldiers must extract a scientist from a bunkercomplex below the ground in some desert. When they enter the complex, they find the remains of other soldiers, scientists and a lot of broken machinery. Then some diseased guys turn up, looking like they are infected and a bit ghostlike. They can transform humans into likewise ghostfigures by vomiting over them. Some of the soldiers get it and the others are gonna look for them, and for the scientist they need to rescue. They meet a bewildered priest who starts talking about apocalyptic stuff and they also find a room with some sort of frozen alien in it. The filmmakers all try to make it look like it makes any sense but it doesn't and it shows in every scene. The action is nice and I had some fun watching this, but it isn't a good movie. Some big names, though.
Justine - watched the first hour yesterday, then fell asleep. Watched the second half at breakfast this morning. It is a very, very long Franco flick and the extra time doesn't add to the plot. It could have been told in way shorter time. The story is about two sisters, a righteous and a wicked one. The wicked one has a fun life, the righteous one suffers all the time. She has to be on the run almost all the time and inbetween places she gets tortured, falsely accused of murder, etc. What I found funny was that this film was shot in Barcelona, as I could easily recognise Parc Güell and the Placa Reial. Acting is what you expect from a Franco flick, but Jack Palance took the cake in this one: he is overacting so much it becomes painful. I'm not gonna recommend this: if you wanna see a Franco, go watch a shorter one.

Reindeerspotting - If Pusher would be a documentary, it would be called Reindeerspotting. This documentary is so well made and so real, that it makes you wonder if it's indeed fake. Knowing that it was made by a junkie who simply followed a friend around with a camera for a while, makes the film even more impressive. Highly recommended, and should be obligatory viewing for all high school students.

Dead Doll - mmm, what to make of this? The idea is nice: a sculptor makes a doll, then kills his wife and after that the doll somehow houses the spirit of the wife, making it be alive from time to time. But after bringing up the idea it goes wrong on almost all fronts. Main causes: a very vague and confusing script and a lead actress who cannot act. With these ingredients the film becomes a failed project. The switching between doll and live person are totally erratic, I couldn't find any logic in it. Also, the pattern in this film is all too clear: scene with sex - scene with gore - scene with sex - scene with gore - scene with sex - scene with gore - scene with sex - scene with gore - etc, etc. Not a good movie, might be interesting for bad moviefans, though.

The Masque of the Red Death - nice and again an atmospheric classic. I liked this one although it almost isn't horror. Vincent Price is a prince living in a medieval castle, holding banquets and parties while outside the people are dying of a plague called the Red Death. I recognised some samples used by Theatre of Tragedy on their second album, it made me smile Acting and story are top notch, if you wouldn't know Price, you could maybe even misguess and think this movie was made much more recently. There are some killings and some of them are cruel, but like I said it isn't really horror in the meaning of blood and gore. Still, I highly recommend this one.

Woensdag - Dutch slasher. It is very unoriginal: the storyline is about a gameshow where contestants can win 50.000 Euros when they spend the night in a supposedly haunted forest and find all clues to some sort of treasure. They can be "killed" by a guy who plays a serial killer, and when he grans you, you are out of the game. Well, guess what happens. . .... ...... ...... ..... ... Yes. You are right. A real serial killer shows up *yawn*. Acting is amateurish, and subpar at best. The storyline I already told you about. What makes this one not a total waste of time is the violent part of the film: the gore is actually kind of OK-ish. This film can't be watched by non-dutch people as the disc hasn't got any subs, and all cast and crew are from the southern part of the country, which in itself is not a problem, but for some it might be a little harder to understand the accents.
Demoniacs - it had been a while since I saw my last Rollin film. Now I remember why. His films a re way too vague for me. Note to self: only watch them together with someone else or in the dead of night. The story is interesting enough: two girls wash ashore and they get raped and killed by some beach scoundrels. They come back as ghosts for vengeance, but then weird stuff happens. And more weird stuff. There was a lot of sex (willingly and unwillingly) in this film and some fighting sequences. All in all I was bored after watching this, as I once more could not follow the way the movie was going. Rollin, maybe he is just not for me (and I still have 5 movies of him in my collection which I haven't seen yet).

Devil of the Desert Against the Son of Hercules - or Anthar l'Invincibile. Spinoff of Hercules films, this one is set in Arabia somewhere in the 19th century. Girl should be queen, but evil guy doesn't let her, Anthar saves her, they fight and win. The End. Very, very simplistic film, image quality is bad, there is a big white stripe across the screen most of the time and the colouring is yellow. The mute guy is called "Mute", very convenient for the slow viewer. No, thois is just a pile of crap. Not even funny crap, like most Hercules films.
Blood Sabbath - psychedelic 70s flick about a guy who falls in love with a witch and then tries to get rid of his soul so he can be with her forever. Very long spun out story in which you expect the end quite a few times, but then the film simply continues. This becomes a bit boring, the sex is repetitive and only in the last 20 or so minutes I saw a few interesting things. Weird film it is indeed. Only for when you want to see something different.

The Brain Machine - a scifi thriller set in the Cold War once more and it i about a secret project which develops a machine that can read human minds. The computer asks questions and demands true answers, or else "the subject is not cleared". It reminded me of HAL from Space Odyssey, but this film doesn't come near SO one moment. There is stupid handling of stuff which is supposed to be computers, there is a failsafe which doesn't work while it is in a government science building, the boomstick with the microphone enters the image visually a few times, etc, etc. The idea is OK-ish, albeit not so very original, but the executuon is poorly done. Skip this, even if you like bad scifi.
Cyclops - the story is about a cyclops getting caught by the Romans and then put into the arena to fight gladiators. Bad cgi to the rim. The entire monster and the entire city of Rome come out of the computer, and it shows. This annoyed me throughout the film and I could not even try to take it seriously. Apart from that there are several dull historical mistakes: Tiberius is not emperor in 24 BC, August is. The arenas were much larger than the one in the film, which can only hold about one hundred spectators, maybe 150. They do the thumb thing wrong. When the officer is marching into Rome triumphantly, only 5 people are watching, while Rome was a city with thousands of inhabitants. I can go on and on and on. It is very bad, but contrary to The Brain Machine, it is funny bad too. So watch this when you like bad movies and/or are a fan of Eric Roberts (who play the emperor - hilarious).

Terror - watching a witchcraft movie, a group of low budget actresses who also work at a club, think nothing of it. But when some of their colleagues start to disappear, they begin to suspect Anne, who works with them too. Nice British horror with some good killings and decent gore. The low budget softporn filming stuff was a but ridiculous, but it was an OK film. The ending was a bit farfetched too. Still, I enjoyed it.
The Dentist 2 - the entist from part 1 tries to leave his past behind by quitting dentistry and moving to Paradise, a small town in a rural area. He is haunted by visions from his past though, and from time to time he relapses in his mad imagination. Although not being a great film, I think it is nicely done how he slowly but steadily returns to his state of utter madness in which nothing can stop him from doing the most radical stuff to people, whether they are in his dentist's chair or not. Well done for a sequel, although it could have been done is less minutes, imo.
Run Bitch Run! - yes, I really liked this one. A modern day revengefilm in which two Catholic schoolgirls selling bibles door to door are brutally mistreated by some criminals and their bitchez. Although I had fun, I thought it again took a bit long until the revengepart started: only the last 20 minutes contain revengescenes. I think this is a problem: the main act is being done too speedily imo. But, despite this little grudge of mine, I had a great time watching this. Recommended, if not highly.
Prime Evil - satanic cult uses humans carfice to honour Satan. This was a bit boring, because it was so full of stuiff I had already seen in tons of other movies: priests getting sick, clergy involved in the cult, human sacrifice. I liked the satan figure, though. It looked really cheesy. A lot of ritual in this film, which gives you the opportunity to shorten it by about 20 minutes. Mediocre, is my verdict.
Splinter - cool movie! A young couple celebrating their anniversary are taken hostage by a criminal and his addict girlfriend. When they drive to a town, they hit something on the road, which leaves tens of spikes in the tire. When out of gas, they stop at a gas station, only to find out that there is a guy there who is also full of spikes. This zombielike creature hunts them down, and infects the addict woman. From now on, the young couple and the criminal have to fend for themselves inside the gas station. It doesn't sound very original, but I had great fun watching this. The gore is very nice and the storyline doesn't go in ridiculous ways. The ending is nice too. Highly recommended.

The Devil's Hand - weird oldie about a guy who gets sort of spellbound by a voodoo cult which is gonna hurt his fiancé. There is a dollshop and the owner plays a pivotal role in the cult. The cult is pretty cool, they have some original stuff, like a test of loiyalty in which one has to lie down on an altar while a wheel on the ceiling is turned. The wheel has several blades attached to it, of which some are real and some are fake. This Russian roulette type of game ends when the wheel comes down so all can see what the blades are doing: cutting the cultmember, or giving way by being fake. Sadly, this is by far the coolest part of the film and you only get to see it twice. The rest of the film is like you might epect from a 60s horror, a bit slow and not so spectacular.
Children of the Corn 6: Isaac's Return - mmm, good and bad. Good: the original Isaac is back in the film. He is not as scary as in part 1, but it is him. The actors in main parts are quite good, the lead girl is looking good, and apart from her we see Nancy Allen and Stacey Keach. Atmosphere is OK-ish, but it deteriorates towards the ending. Bad: we get to see He who walks behind the rows, which is a big mistake, as it was scary as long as you could NOT see it. There are almost no children. There is only one scene in the corn. Better than parts 4 and 5, but still part 1 is the best, and after that I like parts 3 and 2, then this one and then 4 and 5.

Stanley - a native American who lost his father retreats into the Everglades and befriends himself with the snakes there. When a guy wants to hunt down the snakes for their skins, he gets mad and takes his favourite snake Stanley on a revengetrip. Very long film and pretty dramatic, the horror is in the fact that the snakes seem to do what the native says and actually attack on his whim. Some blood, but not much. Kind of OK.
Blood Mania - thriller about a doctor who gets entangled in a debt situation, one of his girlfriends (he has several - it's a 70s movie) wants to help him out but she kills for him to get the money. After that the problems keep rising for the young doctor. Some nice lokking women in this one plus Maria de Aragon who acts out her increasing craziness in a nice way. The ending was a bit "huh?" to me.
Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell - Hammerfilm with a Frankenstein adept who gets locked up in an insane asylum where he meets the baron after a while. The baron is creating a new monster but this one is nothing like the previous famous creations: it looks more like a bad remake of King Kong. Pretty predictable film, but the monster was cool. Oh, and Peter Cushing delivers yet again.

Terrified - a bit boring, this classic film about a guy who gets stalked by a killer with a mask. The dialogue is not very interesting and the characters are a bit meh too. Only the couple who plays a central role in this film is OK. The story of the killer is a bit farfetched, and the setting where the killings take place look like an old western filmset (but maybe that was intended and I missed it - although I doubt it). Quickly on to the next movie!
Up! - yay, this was a nice Russ Meyer film! Before I started watching the Meyer box, I had only seen Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill!, Supervixens and Vixen. They were all cool in a way, so I was a bit disappointed by the other (mainly older) movies which were nothing but filling celluloid without any storyline. Now this oine i more like Supervixens again. In the beginning I thought it was gonna be an anthology, but the storyline focuses after a while and we get to follow Margo Winchester, a very big breasted woman who might be a killer. From time to time a different very big breasted woman enters the screen naked to talk to the viewer about who might be the killer and she goes by all options. A bit unnecessary, but nice looking anyway. There is A LOT of fornication going on in this film, but it is not that much over the top that it spoils the film. You could call this one a porn almost, as you get to see penises too, and even some gay sex in the beginning (with Hitler of all people). After that, it is Margo who steals the show, or maybe it is her chest who does so. I recommend this one if you want to see a cool Meyer film.
Queen Kong - parody on the King Kong film of the 70s. Some very very lame jokes, but I laughed too, it was a bit of Naked Gun like humour and I wouldn't be surprised if Zucker and Zucker had seen this one before they started working on Airplane and Naked Gun. FCharacters have names such as Ray Fay and Luce Habit, and in the film almost everything is reversed: the ape is a female, the abducted person is a man, etc. All women are feminists and they want to exploit Queen Kong for their movement, which leads to some hilarious scenes in London. I laughed enough for me to think this is funny, although you have to brace yourself for the really really lame jokes. Recommended.

These three movies were the last three I hadn't seen from the Gorehouse Greats collection. Together with the Undead Vampire collection and the 50 Movies Scifi box I have seen almost the entirety of my collection boxes, only three to go in the scifi box. I just did a quick search and found out that I started watching the 50 Movies Scifi box in 2007!!
Nightmare in Wax - the owner of a wax museum has got a grudge against several people who are between him and a woman he loves. He also has some very realistic looking waxworks in his museum. The police are investigiating the disappearance of several young people, whose waxworks keep appearing in the museum. This pretty simple puzzle comes to a close when one policeman decides to lock himself into the museum one night to see the owner do his stuff with the waxworks. Mmm, this film was interesting, but could have been way better. The main character is played out pretty good by an actor who looks like Captain Kirk. The blonde girl was too dumb to be realistic and I'd rather had seen the missing people being turned into real waxworks than this hypnosis nonsense. Mildly recommended.
Brain Twisters - a professor in biophysics becomes a suspect when some of his students are connected with violence in a short period of time. One commits suicide and the others kill other students. What is going on? Again, a policeman investigates and he gets help from a girl who works for the professor. Not a horrormovie, this one, more a scifi thriller, which reminded me a bit of Scanners, but it isn't as good as that one. The look of the film is very 80s, with the hairdo's and the shoulderfillings. Brainwashed people kill others, and it is all a great plan by a secret agency. The hallucinations part could have been done better, as it is a bit confusing at times. I liked the ending, nice touch. Mildly recommended.
Trip with the Teacher - a rape-revengefilm, but not a very typical one. In this one, a group of girls travel with their driver and their teacher when they meet a group of three bikers. Two of them are a bit twited and they kidnap the group and hold them hostage, together with the 3rd biker. From then on, rape starts and several members of the group are trying things to get away. In the end, the revenge is gonna be cold, but I also thought it was way too unrealistic, what happened there, I mean, that person should really have been dead or critically wounded. Apart from that this was quite a nice movie, and it fits the rape-revenge subgenre nicely. Recommended.

August Underground - I knew this one is notorious and has a certain reputation, so I was a bit reluctant to watch it, especially by myself. But, I tried anyway and thought that when I would start with it, there would be enough other movies to follow which could make my evening enjoyable if necessary. I had read some stuff about it before, and some of it was "whoa it is sick" and other comments were like "it is hyped too much". I must say that, apart from the 2-3 scenes in the lair of the killers (where the woman tied to the chair is), it is a pretty boring film where nothing much happens. There is no buildup, no tension, no atmosphere. There are only some gruesome scenes with gross stuff in it, out to shock the viewer. And yes, it is shocking, but it is also without any context, without any attachment to the rest of the film. So for me this is 80% it is hyped too much and 20% whoa it is sick.
The Phantom Planet - a cute classic scifi flick about some sort of meteor which houses a mini civilisation. Mini because all inhabitants are like 10% of the normal length of man. When some men disappear, Captain Frank Chapman is sent out to investigate. He ends up on the "phantom planet" and lives with the tiny people for some time. He wants back, but he can't according to their law. A new search party is sent out to find Frank, and somehow all will be well. Nice sfx, typical for the time. I liked it because it was a bit charming.
Black Magic Rites - weird and vague Italian film with a cult whose members worship a dead body they have hung up on the wall. They cut out hearts, drink blood and put blood on the corpse. The storyline was a bit hard to follow, there were some psychedelic things, there is torture and some killings. Also, there is a suggestion of it all being a dream or something. Even Bloodsucker Leads the Dance was clearer than this one imo.
Evil Ed - a guy is hired to cut out all violent scenes of films who need ratings. He has a small office where he does this, and the office is full of filmposters (Critters, Cape Fear, etc). While doing the cutting, he becomes mad. He starts to mutilate and kill people, so when this comes out, he gets locked up in an asylum for the criminally insane. But, Ed is not so easy to hold: he escapes and a SWAT team is sent in to silence him. All this goes with nice amounts of gore and it makes this film a fun ride. Recommended.

Dead Man's Shoes - a soldier returns home to his village, where the gang who used to harass his retarded brother still roams the streets. Now he is gonna take them all out, one by one. I liked this British revenge film a lot. The storyline was a bit predictable but also held a few nice surprises.
Spoiler: |
The scenes in which the retarded brother is speaking with the soldier turned out to let you off on the wrong foot, but I can see that it is done in the interest of the storyline. If you would know from the beginning that the reatrded brother was dead, it would have spoilt a lot.

The ending was a bit, well, I'm not sure what to think of it. Overall this is a good film, recommended. Colossus and the Amazon Queen - I haven't seen a colossus in this one, but there were plenty of amazons. This is some kind of reversed movie: the females have the power and the men are the submissive servants, they exaggerate this a lot. It must have been the intention of the filmmakers to make a comedy/fantasy movie, because there are many moments in which you want to hide under the couch, so stupid are the jokes. It is almost like slapstick. The storyline is nothing much, but you shouldn't watch this movie for the storyline, but for it's stupidity. Chanbara Beauty 2: the vortex - some more brainless hacking of zombies and other enemies of the Imichu girls. I wasn't impressed by part 1, and part 2 didn't leave any permanent impressions either. I loathed the cgi blood and the blood splashes on to the camera thingy. It is a bad thing if the director tries to fill his film with effects like that. Bad film.
