Dune - wow, cool movie! Really oldfashioned get-sucked-into-the-film stuff. I even noticed some nostalgia taking over, I was totally in the mood for a good night of old films. I knew Dune because I heard people talk of it, be it the film, the game or the series. I now understand why, it is a classic! Part of the cast later takes part in Twin Peaks, which is always a plus for me. Although the story is actually quite simple, the way it is brought to you is impressive. Effects are very early 80s of course, but that doesn't break any immersion as far as I'm concerned. I was actually a bit surprised that this was directed by David Lynch: I'd call this one an atypical Lynch, it doesn't have that mysterious air around it which is always so ever present in his films. It doesn't matter for this one, this is simply a great film. Highly recommended.
Torso - I felt in the mood for a giallo and so I picked this Sergio Martino film I recently bought. In Perugia, students are getting killed and some of the girl students are worried that they might be next, o they hide in a villa on a mountain above town. Unfortunately for them, the killer knows it and he comes after them. Very atmospheric, althogh I didn't like the final part so much. The outcome was a tad unsatisfying, partially because I totally couldn't have guessed it (and that wasn't because it was so cleverly made). But it was a cool giallo: I had seen All the Colours of the Dark before, also a giallo by Martino and that one I didn't like so much. This one is way better! Recommended, if not highly.
The Killer Eye - totally ridiculous film about a (mad) scientist who is experimenting on people and one day, a boy's eye grows out of proportion and while he dies, the eye continues a life of it's own. Yes, really. It walks around on it's optic nerve, sending green beams into people's eyes which makes them horny. If you don't believe this, wait for my rip (I put this one on the "to rip" list). After a while the assistant of the scientist finds out that he can battle the eye with light and heat. Will they be able to contain the danger of the eye? Loved this film, total B-movie cheese. Recommended for bad moviefans.
Kældermenneske - this means "basement man" in Danish. It is the debut short of Casper Haugegaard, the guy who also directed Opstandelsen, a Danish zombieflick I'm about to encode. I can do this one too, if there is interest. It is a 28 minute film about two friends driving towards a wedding when they get into a fight. This fight escalates into something gory. If I write more, I'll spoil it. I expected a little more of it (a little more action), but I must say that atmosphere was bleak and a bit threatening. Recommended.

Penance - a young mother in need of money goes into stripping and ends up in what looks like an asylum, which is ruled by a guy who thinks he needs to cleanse/purify the women he has caught. They are all strippers, and he wants to help them to go to heaven without purgatory. It is some kind of rape/revenge film, but instead of rape there is torture and genital mutilation. The most grossed out scene was
Spoiler: |
where the guy sits down and mutilates his own genitals
|
. There is no releasepost of Penance on here, but there is a rip out if you are interested. The Dallas Connection - slowly but steadily I'm nearing the completion of watching all Bullets, Bombs and Babes films. This is one of three I had left. In this one Julie Strain is a criminal who wants to steal four chips in order to make "the Dallas connection" on a certain computer. With this she can prevent an anti-war movement to know about all weaponry in the world in order to destroy it. Again, the same Latino bad guy actor and the same Japanese short and bald guy show up to do their trick like in almost all other Sidaris films. And again there are remote cars and boats with explosives. Oh, and let's not forget the tits, which are present in huge amounts. Recommended for bad moviefans. Ratman - aka Quella villa in fondo al parco (which means something like "The villa at the end of the park", a title which eludes me). A guy is experimenting on rats and there is one mutation which results in a creature which is half man and half rat: Ratman. This creature goes about killing people and when Eva Grimaldi is attacked, her sister (Janet Agren) and her boyfriend are gonna find out what is going on. Real cheesefest, with some nice music and weird scenes with the ratman. Classic ending. Recommended for bad moviefans. Mimic - an early Guillermo del Toro (released right after Cronos), this one doesn't have the fairy tale-like atmosphere which is so typical of his later films. Actually that is good thing in this film, because the subject is a large battle between genetically engineered bugs and the humans who invented them, and there is not much fairy tale-like about it. I liked this film, it has decent gore and there is enough action going on. Only drawback is the use of cgi for some of the scenes with many bugs or with flying bugs. Recommended, if not highly.

After all champagne was out, the fireworks had stopped (well, almost) I popped open a nice cool beer, sat down and watched:
King Kong Lives - this 1986 ape film serves as some sort of a sequel, as it begins with the ending of King Kong (1976). I wonder if they paid royalties for that. Linda Hamilton is a doctor who concludes that King Kong needs a transplant after having been in a coma for 10 years, following his being shot up at the Empire State Building. The blood comes from another huge ape, found by an adventurer who makes a quick buck this way. Against the doctor's advice, the female is brought in close to King Kong and he can smell and hear her, so he gets wild. They both escape and then the classic stuff starts with military hardliners who only want to go in for the kill and the doctor and the now very passionate adventurer want to save the apes. Hilarious stuff, a lot of bad mistakes made and cheesy effects make this one an enjoyable ride for bad moviefans.

Sasquatch Hunters - bad movie about some scientists who are setting out on an expedition to check out some weird bones which were found in a forest. A group of rangers is accompanying them in order to stay safe during the trip. They find the spot and take pictures and samples from the bones. From then on, people start disappearing, and they find out they aren't alone in the forest. Real SBiG moments with a doll being smashed into a tree by a guy in a monkey suit and an epic endfight. Only for bad moviefans, although Juliana Dever might appeal to other fans too Cherry Falls - nice old-fashioned slasher with the late Brittanny Murphy starring as a teenage girl whose father is the sheriff in a town where virgins are being targeted by a serial killer. In order to not become a victim, the teenagers organise a large sex-party, but some adults are not so happy about that. It was a nice guessing game, but I suspect the director of cheating a bit in this game: not in all shots where you can see the killer it is the same person I suspect. But, the storyline is quite nice and has this classic 80s slasher feeling all over it. It is also quite overdone, the scene in which the killer
Spoiler: |
shouts "Class dismissed!" at the sex-party is super exaggerated and cheesy.
|
Overall I liked this one, the cheesy bits included. The Resurrection - Danish zombieflick (Danish title: Opstandelsen). Can't tell much about it or I would spoil the whole film. Let me just say that it is pretty straightfroward, the gore is good and since it is only 50 minutes long, it never drags. I'll rip this one soon for you guys. Recommended.

The Party at Kitty and Stud's - better known as Italian Stallion, the nickname which stuck on Sylvester Stallone after this one. Apparently he was asked by a friend to star in this film and he did so for a $200 fee. The film itself is nothing special. It is a pornmovie in which you're able to see Stallone to his fullest extent if you catch my drift. There are some hilarious voice overs, and the amount of sex keeps increasing and climaxes into an orgy at the end. All this accompanied by cheesy 70s music Recommended for bad moviefans.
Psychic Killer - Arnold is convicted for murder while he didn't kill anyone. He is treated as criminally insane, but soon a female doctor finds out he might not be insane after all. In prison, he learns some sort of voodoo trick about travelling outside your body. Another man confesses to the murder committed, and Arnold is set free. After a while, people start turning up dead and the police is guessing why. When they find out that all victims are somehow connected to Arnold, they are gonna check him out. Is he the killer? Or is he gonna be accused while innocent a second time? Some wooden acting, some good. Atmosphere was OK-ish, killings were pretty cool, I had a good time watching it.
Hellraiser: Hellworld - what to do when you have released seven movies about the same thing already? Well, then you just take the theme and oput it in a movie which actually has nothing to do with Hellraiser. Actually, this somewhat saves the film, as compared to Hellseeker, Deader and Revelations, the latter of which comes after this one, I actually had some fun watching this. Part of that fun has to be credited to Katheryn Winnick who keeps running around in her tight leather pants for your viewing pleasure. Lance Henriksen gives this film something extra too. I was really in for some totally bad Hellraiser weakplotted flick, but I was a bit surprised in the positive sense of the word. Just don't expect too much Cenobyte action and you might just enjoy this one.

Nuda per Satana - I thought this one was about nuns in a convent, but it turned out to be a sexploitation instead of a nunsploitation. There is some full frontal, and the rest of the film is a bit like a trip: both a man and a woman come separately to a castle, where they find out there are some weird figures. Some of them live in the castle as personnel, others seem to have come alive from paintings on the wall. Then there is also this supercheesy scene with "spiders" (it is so superfake, you have to see it to believe it). I had a good laugh watching this one, recommended for bad moviefans!
The Sick House - Gina Phillips is an American archaeologist in London who finds a spot underground where the bubonic plague is still alive. Because it is very dangerous to go digging there, the place gets sealed off, but she wants to find a locked room she heard about, so she continues at night. What she finds is a box and when she opens it, she unleashes the ghost of a plaguedoctor. This ghost is bent on killing people, and the victims are the members of a group of local teens who had stolen a car before and were now on the run for the police. Some OK acting, the ghost thingy is done pretty OK, although I'm quite fed up with the "I shake my head to and fro a 1000 times and I do it real quick" ghost stuff. Enjoyable enough, this film.
Fido - this plays out in the future, after a war between mankind and zombies, but the people look like they are from the 50s. After the war, a large company, Zomcon, has established some stuff (like for example a collar which makes them not want to eat people) to domesticize zombies and make them work for people. A family (mother Carrie Ann Moss, father Dylan Baker, son Kesun Loder) is the only family in the street who doesn't own a house-zombie, and when they get the head of security at Zomcon as their new neighbour, the mother finally gets one. This is against the will of the father, who is afraid of zombies, and of the son, who dislikes Zomcon. But after a while, the son befriends the zombie and they spend a lot of time together. One day however, the collar gets loose and the zombie follows it's nature... Funny film, I liked it a lot. I had some good laughs and there was some good gore too. Acting is great, the way Carrie Ann Moss acts out the feelings she has for the zombie is just great. Recommended, maybe even highly.

Grindhouse night, this evening. Four classics which could be shown at any Night of Bad Taste wherever. Everything I saw tonight is highly recommended viewing for bad moviefans.
Last Cannibal World - this cannibalmovie was one of the two which I hadn't seen yet. Made by Ruggero Deodato before he made Cannibal Holocaust, this looks like an exercise for that movie. A plane crashes in the jungle and the crew needs to go out and see if they can survive. In the nearby jungle a cannibalistic tribe lives like in the Stone Age, and the planecrew learns of their existence the hard way. All cannibalfilm cliches are present: stock footage of jungle animals with some cruel scenes in them, the worst was one where a bat was bound up tightly to be devoured by a snake. A scene where the tribe punishes one of their members with a "jungle punishment": aggressive ants are being let loose on his body. A scene where a reptile gets cut open, this time it was a crocodile. Some full frontal nudity and some overly dramatic twists in the storyline complete this one. It had been a while since I saw a "real" cannibalfilm (Cannibal Ferox 2 didn't count as it has too many aspects of different styles of film in it), and this one is really good. Top 5, maybe even top 3.
Dinner with the Vampire - Lamberto Bava film about some girls and a guy who audution for a film and then they get invited for a dinner at a castle. The host is a vampire, Jurek, and he wants to be killed before sunrise as he is tired of eternal life. If they don't kill him, he will kill them. This premise is quite original, but it still boils down to a bunch of cliches (although the garlic and the cross don't work on Jurek). Real nice bad taste moments, with visible threads on the fake spiders, and a priceless scene where the vmpire rips out someone's heart. Or rather, the heart flies into his hands. Oh, and clearly visible make up to make it a complete feast.
The Toy Box - weird but typical grindhouse film about some sort of a cult evolving around a person referrred to as "Uncle". Members of the cult perform acts for Uncle, and the acts are all very sexual (they are some sort of mini plays with a sexual theme). One day there is a party where everyomne has to attend and they will perform for Uncle one last time, because he died. Somemembers have troubel performing for a dead man, others are suspicious and they find out that Uncle never was really dead, or a normal man for that matter. The backside of the DVD cover said something about a large woman telling about Uncle. This "large woman" fails to convince: she is just a woman filmed from below, and she never appears in the same frame as the people listening to her. Apart from typical bad taste flaws like this one, there is a lot of nudity and sexul action going on.
Nightmare City - Umberto Lenzi made this atypical zombieflick (I realised that 3 out of 4 films tonight were made by Italians) about a plane landing at an airfield and when it opens, zombielike monsters come out and start killing everyone. They are atypical for their time, because they can run and they kill with weapons, stuff which only entered zombiefilms later, after 28 Days Later. Sometimes this film was a bit hard to follow, as the subs are hardcoded, but not always on par, so I had to switch between listening to the English soundtrack and reading the subs every other 10 minutes or so. This spoilt the viewing pleasure a bit, but what was on the screen made up for it. Nice and gory killings, a lot of violence and military without a conscience, it was all there. The ending seemed to be awful, but then it made a nice turn, so I had a nice apotheosis of my Grindhouse movienight.

Part 4 night.
Phantasm IV: Oblivion - the DVD cover claims this film contains footage which wasn't used for part 1. Well maybe it's the explanation for the question "why does this film have a hint of atmosphere but cannot really reach it?". I don't know, maybe it was because it was the 4th part, that I'm getting a it tired of this story, not sure. Let me make myself clear: this isn't a bad film. There is a lot of utter trash which can't even dream of being as good as this film, but it is a bit pale compared to the rest. So, I enjoyed it, but there was also a bit of an empty feeling. It was too "made". I prefer parts 1 and 2 over this one, that's for sure.
Faces of Death 4 - this is the one which was popular in the time I went to school, so some scenes I knew because I had heard about them (the bungee jump scene for example). It is hard to believe that back in the days everyone believed it was real, as this too is very "made". Totally coincidentally there are several cameramen present when accidents happen, so they can film it from different angles. Some stuff could be real of course, like the shooting of a protester in Haiti (although I'm never 100% sure, except for the Rammstein scene as I had seen that footage before). This is what makes this series strong: some footage is real, and then the rumours do the rest. What makes me laugh is the conservative voice over, which states stuff like "Liberals who call for gun control obviously never had a family member shot down by one of these madmen" or something like that. Oh, and another nice one, on hunting big game (bears, elephants, lions, etc.): "The taxidermist is a dying job, as more and more people protest the fate of the animals. I wonder if they put off their leather shoes and lay down their leather wallets before they come to the picketline". I laughed. How shortsighted can you be.
The Prophecy 4: Uprising - this one has totally nothing to do with the previous three films. It isn't bad per se, it is just that it shouldn't have been called The Prophecy. Sean Pertwee plays a Romanian policeman who stumbles upon ritualistic killings in Bucharest. A woman who lost her parents in the communist era gets a rare book, the Lexicon. This book is sought after by Belial who rebelled against Satan to create a new Hell. Now all angels try to stop him, the good and the bad ones. The paths of the woman and the policeman will cross. I was actually surprised by the storyline. I hadn't expected a thing, this being a number 4 and without Chrstopher Walken. But I was pleasantly surprised, it was way better than I had thought. Just forget this one is linked to The Prphecy Trilogy and you will be fine.

Student Bodies - "before there was Scream, there was... Student Bodies" it says on the DVD cover. It claims to be the first horror comedy ever. I'm not 100% sure if they are right there (one could say that Fearless Vampire Killers is a horrorcomedy too), but indeed it is a horrorcomedy from 1981 which is pretty long ago so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Jokes are what you might expect from US comedy, but some of them are OK or even good. I laughed a few times so it idn't fail on all fronts. It wasn't scary or anything, so the horror part is a bit lame. This film doesn't mock horror only, it also mocks horrorviewers with stuff like "the bodycount is now at..." and then a number in the middle of the screen. This is somewhat funny and this kind of comedy certainly hadn't been seen before, at least not to my knowledge. Recommended, just don't expect to be scared.
Piranha - the remake from 2010. As always, there is loads of cgi, all fish are in this one. This is the drawback compared to the original. Atmosphere is actually quite good, you can really get involved in the spring break atmosphere young people must have every year in the US. The big plus over the original is the babes. And there are a lot of them. This movie could have been named "It is all about tits" and it would have been 100% correct. There are so many scenes which are entirely about boobs it is almost porn. Since I hold nothing against boobs, I didn't mind. I recommend this only after you have seen the original. It will be better than when you first watch this one.

The Big Bird Cage - nice 70s exploitation flick with Pam Grier as a revolutionary fighting in the forests surrounding a prison camp where a large sugarmill (the "Big Bird Cage") dominates the premises. Terry, a woman who is gradually trying to make a career, gets caught up in the revolutinary activities and accidentally ends up in the prison camp. In there, she tries to survive the harsh regime of the warden and in the meantime try and escape. This is very hard and the women who do try get punished. Luckily for her and the other women, the revolutionaries plan to attack the prison camp and release it's inmates. There is the usual stuff with this kind of WIP films: some torture, a snitch subplot, lots of violence and regular nakedness. I liked this one.
Kolobos - first half is boring, second half is OK. First half is about some Big Brother-like TV programme and the people who take part in it. Second half starts with the death of one of the participants. The house lcoks down so the others can't get out anymore. Now they are at the mercy of some supernatural faceless guy who stalks and kills as much as possible. It is a bit Cube-like in this part of the film, and there are some pretty entertaining deaths. The ending is quite classic, I hadn't expected that one.
Demon Summer - low budget and it shows. Bad story, bad effects, there wasn't much to enjoy in this one, except for the fact that it wasn't so long. The "demon" is a badly painted guy who just stands there and does nothing. The acting of most of the cast doesn't exceed highschool musical level. Painful, avoid.

Maniac Cop - this was better than I thought. When I looked at the screenshots on the back of the DVD I thought it would be really cheesy, but actually the storyline is more or less OK, maybe even good. Bruce Campbell is a cop who gets accused of some brutal killings which were done by a cop. In order to prove his innocence he goes investigating, but meanwhile the killer is still out there. Like I said, nice story, OK effects, pretty good acting for most of the cast. I enjoyed it. Recommended.
The Rising Dead - ouch, this was painful. Very, very longdrawn and tedious film where a guy has to portray a special agent, while he looks more like a mafia extortionist/fighter. He has to save some people from the zombie outbreak that has occurred after, guess, yes, correct, an all destroying war with biological weapons, but he keeps fucking up: they all die, or they disappear. Very, very long and tedious story short: don't watch this film.

Zombies - aka Wicked Little Things, which is a way better title. The creatures this film is about are not really zombies, as they haven't died according to the story. They do some zombiestuff, like eating people's flesh, but that's about it, most other stuff they do is pretty unzombie-like. The story in itself is not so bad: an accident in a mine at the beginning of the 20th century left a group of kids locked up inside the mine. Years later a family inhabits the house close to the mine, to find out that the kids aren't actually dead, they keep haunting the surroundings to avenge the accident. While this is quite a nice storyline, the filmmakers don't make much of it. There are some really weird dialogues ("You have to stay in the house, we don't want you to get lost" - ehm, so if you leave the house you immediately get lost?) and most characters lack any sort of depth. The ending is very, very predictable. Not so good, maybe fun for bad moviefans.
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls - an atypical Meyer if you ask me. Almost no visible tits, only a few sexscenes and lots of music performances. It is more of a "coming of age" film, although the central characters are not superyoung. Nice film if you want to know anything about atmosphere in the 70s, but the pretty moralistic ending was a turnoff. I'd say go for a different Meyer film.
Ozone: attack of the redneck zombies - yet another no budget zombieflick. Only some of the gore scenes are OK, the rest is quite forgettable. There is actually not really a storyline, only that some people get mutated by a hole in the ozone layer and then start vomiting yellow stuff all over the place. The best part of the film is the last 5 minutes, so you might spare yourself 85 minutes of quite crappy acting and mediocre audio/video quality. Only for bad moviefans.

Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things - zombieflick from early 70s. The film takes a lot of time for character development. Nice to see how the personalities of the gang of actors which travelled to an island to do some black magic really are thought out. Sometimes it drags a bit, but the film keeps being interesting. The zombies only come after one hour (!) but their entrance scene is epic! One of the best I have seen. Last half hour is most entertaining imo. Recommended.
Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold - less fun than Cleopatra Jones' first movie. I don't like Hong Kong so much, so when the entire movie plays out there, well, yeah... Also, Cleopatra Jones is dressed up less funky than in the first film. Story is bit predictable although there is a mild twist at the end. If you like blaxploitation and have to choose, then pick another one. There are better blaxploitations out there.
Bugs - cgi insects run around in a tunnel which is built by a rich guy to make business out of it. As in all monstermovies, the rich guy doesn't want to face facts and he ignores the warnings of CDC official Angie Everhart (you might know her from her supergorgeous performance in Bordello of Blood) and some cops. Of course the bugs eat all his important guests, and that is only the beginning. Also like in all other movies with insects, Angie gets to dissect one, always a classic scene. When leaving out the cgi, this flick isn't even that bad, just full of cliches. I had fun watching it.

Deadly Water - aka Kraken: Tentacles from the Deep. Another cliche monster movie, it's about a squid this time. The storyline is hard to believe, as it is about two artefacts which are presumably immensely valuable for archaeologists: a mask and an opal. The mask looks the same as the (real) golden mask of Agamemnon, there is only one of them and it's in a Greek museum. In this flick, it is one of three and it lies on the bottom of the sea close to Alaska. Right. The opal looks like a plastic toy from the 1$ bin. All characters are extremely cliche, from the local villain through the blonde sidekick to the central couple (captain and photographer). The squid is cgi, and sometimes it isn't that bad (when you see the tentacles out of the water at night), but sometimes you just stare at the screen in disbelief: how they could ever make this and not laugh is a mystery. Fun for bad moviefans, all others should pass.
I Am The Ripper - kind of atypical French horror. It is more in the line of highschool non-scary horrors from the US, unfortunately. At a party, death suddenly appears. Or actually, a guy hastily clad in a dark sheet with a paper mask with a skull on it appears. He starts killing everyone and most killings are a shame to look at: disappearing heads due to bad cgi galore. The last guy is not such an easy prey and when death wants to duel him, a superlame story about angels starts. Peter (the last man standing) can become an angel of death if he wants. He just has to do what death says. You can use ffwd easily in the first half hour of the film as it is only useless chatter on the party. After that there are the killings, but if you have seen one, you can skip to the lame angelpart. Or just skip this film altogether.
Night of the Sorcerers - aka La Noche de los Brujos. Nice and campy film by Amando de Ossorio, of whom the Blind Dead series is the most famous work he has done. This one has almost everything: nice atmosphere, exotic location, vampire-like babes, zombie-esque risings, etc. Classic horror ending. I loved it! Recommended.

Krull - the last epic long scifi I have on DVD. It is a mixture between fantasy and scifi, as there are knights and kings, but also laserguns and spaceships around. Story evolves around a royal couple who are separated at their wedding: now the new king has to find his bride who has been abducted by the evil guys to a black castle which can fly around, to make matters a tad more difficult in finding it. On his way he encounters a gang of warriors (among them Liam Neeson in one of his first films) who are gonna help him. Nice fights, nice surroundings and a nice plot. It wasn't as grabbing as Dune, but still I had a good time. Recommended, and not only for bad moviefans.
Undead - when zombies arrive by meteor in a small fishing village, the former "Catch of the Day" queen takes refuge in a farm where the local weirdo lives. This weirdo turns out to be an excellent zombiekiller with a huge amount of coolness (in the sense of him throwing his pistols up in the air, grabbing a shotgun, killing a zombie and then his pistols land in his hands to do some further killing). Together they face the threat of the zombies, and more people join their group, among whom is a very annoying policeguy. Some funny stuff occurs, both people and zombies die, and then it gets clearer and clearer where these zombies are coming from... Not an in-depth zombieflick with a message, but good fun! I enjoyed it, recommended.

Mexican Werewolf (in Texas) - movie about a chupacabra, which is actually not a werewolf in the sense we know it from most werewolf movies. This is simply a monster who likes to eat animals, especially goats. Nothing to worry about, you'd say, but in a town which calls itself the "goat capital of the world" they do worry, a lot, when many dead goats are found. Because of racial tensions in the town (whites vs Mexicans), people start accusing one another, and a mixed couple decides to catch the chupacabra to prove it's guilt and make the town peaceful again. Quite OK film, nothing really special about it, but enjoyable at least. Nice subplot about the mixed couple and their respective dads. Ending was a bit too straightforward for me, though.
Bride of Re-Animator - Yuzna directed this one, and he succeeds in grabbing the atmosphere of the first one. Maybe not really surprising, as he produced that one, but still, I think it is a nice feat. Herbert West wants to continue research and he starts collecting bodyparts in order to prove that humanity is in each and every part of the body, not just the head. Doctor Cain assists him, but he also has trouble dealing with the death of his wife, the impending death of a patient and his newest girlfriend. Dr Hill makes a hilarious comeback too. Gore and effects are great like in part one. Highly recommended!

Seed - Uwe Boll serial killer film. Probably he watched Shocker before he made this one, as the plot is almost the same: serial killer gets the chair, he survives and goes on a rampage. I was shocked to find out that it takes 45 minutes of film to get to the "he gets the chair" part! Everything you see before that, isn't interesting: too dark sets where cops are looking for someone who isn't there. Also some drama with a cop and his wife at home, useless for people who want to follow a storyline. The killings are badly done: most of them you don't even see because it is too dark (again) or because it happens outisde view of the camera. There are two things which make this film a bit shocking: the opening sequence has images of animals being killed for their fur. Harsh, because that i how it really happens, but it has nothing to do with the film. And there is a brutal scene which can be referred to as the "hammer-scene". The final scene is very dumb. At first you might think it is gonan be brutal too, but after it has ended you will think "wtf?" because it doesn't feel like an ending. It just stops at a certain point. Wow, really bad film. Hard Ticket To Hawaii - this Bullets, Bombs and Babes flick is one of the best. It has Ronn Moss from the Bold & the Beautiful, and it has a superfake megasnake which supposedly is very, very dangerous. Well, it was only dangerous for my supply of oxygen, as it laughed so hard everytime I saw it, I was gasping for air at a certian point. The rest of the film is like it is to be expected: remote controlled helicopter is there, blonde babes are there, exaggerated "martial arts" scenes are there, etc. Sex scenes are few, and Andy Sidaris himself stars in this one. For bad moviefans only. The Deadly Spawn - mandatory viewing for bad moviefans! Everything in this film is so supercheesy it is almost unbelievable. Films like this have inspired people to organise Nights of Bad Taste, I'm sure. The monster is supercool and it actually looks like it is portrayed on the cover, and that should say enough:

French evening:
Ils - aka Them. Starts out nicely, with a mnother and daughter having their car break down and... well, the atmosphere is set immediately. And this atmosphere is the strength of the film, as the storyline isn't very interesting actually. Olivia Bonamy plays a teacher who lives just outside Bucharest with her husband. One night they hear stumbling and they go look,. Then their car gets stolen and "they" are in the house. What follows is a series of chases, mostly thorugh the house and later through the woods and some other building. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, but I must say I was a bit disappointed by the outcome. I don't blieve the "based on true events" thingy, that has been done too many times now. So, recommended, because it is a nice little film, but you might not like the ending. Then again, many do.
Grapes of Death - many people told me this is the only Rollin film they like. Lucky for me it is the last Rollin film I had left to watch, so I'd go out with a bang. I can safely agree with all the people who told me anytning about this one. It is a good film indeed. Here too, the atmosphere is good, but the storyline is more interesting. The make up is somewhat cheesy as it is not so well done (and that is a nice way to put it), but in all other aspects these zombies are quite good. They aren't typical, as they can still talk and think, but enjoyable anyway. Nice ending, felt a bit classical. Recommended.

Red Blooded American Girl - wow, this film must have the cheapest vampires ever! They are vampires because they like/need to drink blood. Younjust can't see that theya re vampires. They simply look like plain common people. They don't even have fangs! Amazing how guys like Christopher Plummer agreed to act in this crap. It has a hint of 80s atmosphere, so I survived those 90 minutes, but man, this was bad. Forget this one.
Stink of Flesh - original take on zombies: the hero of this flick, Matool, beats and punches them and then nails them to doors and stuff with his huge hammer. One day he gets kidnapped by a guy who likes it to watch his chubby wife getting fucked by other men. Her sister is a weird creature, because she has an animated clay face in her side, and she even gave it a name (Dorothy). Then there is a boy who does nothing in the entire film. A bit of a weird movie, but there are some aspects I really liked: the basic storyline, it is so strange that you keep watching. The gore, it is good, better than what I have seen most of the time. And the hammering. Some drawbacks too of course, but I think most people here will enjoy this one.
