Ah, thanks! All of those look to be really great! I can't quite remember, but I saw an American Werewolf in ______ movie, it might have been Paris.

Ninth Gate: Sounds interesting, I expect great things since Spud is fond of it.

Its a polanski movie, if you like roman polanski its a great one.

They are very traditionalist movies, very well made but some people just can't live without their mtv fix these days and its not exactly a fast movie. I recommended it because the two movies Fear Iteslf mentioned are very, very similar in plot to Ninth Gate so i believe he'd enjoy it. Seems he did :)

Don't know if you will though since a lot of movies you list i really loathe, particularly the remakes which i have no liking for.

Yeah, my tastes seem to differ a lot from most forum members, I often get ridiculed. I don't like remakes, the only one I enjoyed enough to mention was the 2005 Amityville Horror. I thought it was rather amazing, definately better then the 70's version, in my opinion. But then again, I hate a lot of remakes. Like everyone, I thought The Fog was the worst piece of shit put on screen, and the upcoming When a Stranger Calls - whilst I adore the premise - looks... ad. The main actress, hello... whoever did casting, fire them. She can't act. She can't even deliver a fucking line in the trailer. I went out and rented the original, and should be watching that tonight.

Also to mention, I watched Re-Animator last night, reccomended to me on another board, and I thought it was rather good. :)

Actually, I also just finished Boy Eats Girl, absolutely loved it. The killing spree scene far out beat the infamous lawnmower scene in Braindead, or so I thought.

Oh, and fast movies or slow movies, no difference to me. The only problem I have with slow movies are if I really like them, and then want to watch them with someone else. I can't concentrate on the movie, rather I'm constantly wondring if they like it, or if they're bored out of their mind. People ridicule me a lot when I suggest movies.

gggrrr.... Fear....getting....angry. ....the TCM ramake was so much better on so many levels. and i say the TCM ramake, because they were both made by Platinum Dunes. Micheal Bay may be a pretentious bastard, but the crew that was assembled and the work they did on that movie was freakin light years beyond TAH. but thats not even my biggest gripe... the remake was NOT better than the original by any means. technologically, of course, but the original was a milestone in cinematic horror, where as the remake is a studio exec cash cow that mucked up and trampled all over the story. im gonna say your opinion that the remake was better is because youre young and i understand how old skool horror can be laughable when looked back on.

this is where my head actually caught on fire.

What a terrible, terrible movie. Was your favorite part when the mop popped out of the closet under the stairs as the girl walked past it? I swear i got so pissed i started destroying things with no recollection of it. Anyone who tries to defend that with "they were making fun of cliches" is going to get WTF'd into oblivion.

The killing spree scene beat the lawnmower scene from braindead!? Why? Because it was the only gore in the entire movie and when some blood actually DID make an appearance, you were so overwhelmed that you formulated that opinion on the spot? Did you time the scene? It had to have been at least under 30 seconds. Not to mention, why the fuck do people living in the suburbs have a tractor sitting in their yard!!?

omg...blah... im done.... *pukes*

youve got a long way to go kid

@Fear Itself, Mabey you should suggest a "old skool" movie that is good to try and help out instead of being all elitist.. his taste is his taste. There is a diffrence between discussion about flicks and "I hate everything you like" comments.

yeah, i know i was out of line, but he explained how he gets ridiculed for his opinions, i actually wanted to give him some insight into that.

dont get me wrong, im not trying to flame him, but if he wants to have a real conversation, im not going to pat him on the back for loving Boy Eats Girl and send him on his complacent way.

The flatout best suggestion I can give you Joshaube, is, watch every single horror movie that you can. If you need a starting point, start with the 50s and work your way up.

As far as those kind of movies go, I don't like either as well
Poltergeist is a better movie from the same strain, even if it is a tad on the populist horror side.

Yea, but i quite like the concept of a person you know slowly going mad. The madness almost hidden form themselves not just the the people around them. This is the part of the amityville movies I like the most.

plus I love that bit were the chick makes love to the mirror... I think that is ep 2.

As far as the madness goes, The Shining so owns it. I think that as far as the madness goes, you've got to give full marks to the Shining.

Cronemberg does them very well too, but that's more of dementia and decay rather than ass getting an axe and going to do someone over.

Dear Fear Itself,
I own the TCM remake, I blind bought it. It was decent, yes, but nothing amazing. I have not seen the original, and I believe in this thread I stated I would like to see it. Now, as for The Amityville Horror - you state the 'remake trampled all over the story'. Yeah? And also that it was a cinematic milestone. That might be true. But just because something is 'revolutionary' at one point in time does not make it amazing years later. The remake of TAH follows the storyline of the BOOK, the original BOOK. It changes a few aspect, but the original movie, made in the 70's, doesn't follow the book EITHER. That is what I was told, anyways. I haven't read the book. In interviews, many people said they wanted to remake the movie following the book more closely, as the stars were dissapointed in the original that it weaved so much from that very book. Now how was it revelutionary? The end... just ended, with some text. There wasn't any fear. Not to my knowledge. WE might have different definitions, but I'm really tired of 'elitests' who think old school horror is leaps and bounds above anything made today, and I admit it usual is, but TAH? Maybe I had to be around back in the 70's to get what was so amazing about it, and I'm sorry I wasn't... but from what I saw, it was shit. The remake, to my knowledge, was piles better. The scene with the babysitter in the closet, you have to admit - artistically - it was amazing.

As for Boy Eats Girl... I thought it was good, to you it may have been bad, but to me... I liked it. Sue me. As for the killing spree comment you made, you made false accusations. Only gore in the movie? I'm guessing you didn't even watch it, or weren't paying attention because you deemed it shit before giving it a chance. There was more gore before AND after that scene. It was better then the Braindead scene, IMO, because hell... it's a tractor. You SAW the bodies crush through the grinders, bring plowed, rather then thin red juice spraying everywhere in braindead. Length of scene, wow, what difference does that make. it was creative, it was gore-filled. Same as braindead, I just prefer this scene. If you didn't notice, she lived on some type of farm setting. She had a horse, there were fields. They could have been doing construction a street down. There are tractors around here when there is construction. Big whoop. And if you say 'then how'd she drive it?' then I'd defend by saying she wasn't accurately and professionally driving it, and if the owner was at the time of th attack, chances are he didn't take his keys with him in his flesh-craving attack.

"Yep, I agree wholeheartedly Poltergeist is a FAR superior film"
Even someone like me, who apparently has a long way to go, can admit that. :)

Now, I'm not trying to be like a lot of 'horror fans', hardcore and all. I'm not going to rant and rave about remakes, or how bad certain films are, or only like obscure titles and hate all Hollywood shit. I'm not going to limit myself to what I like and not like based on how others will react to my taste.

Here flame me some more :D
I liked Resident Evil: Apocolypse, one was alright.
I enjoy foriegn films, but didn't find Ringu that amazing - at least not as amazing as the hype makes it seem.
I liked the Amityville remake.
I liked Cry_Wolf.
I didn't think much of The Shining.
I liked the original and remake of Night of the Living Dead equally.
I HATED Land of the Dead and the fucking 'smart' zombies.

Let's not turn this semi-interesting debate to a He said she said rant.No one here is gonna have the exact tastes in movies..Let's just leave it at that and get back to the conversation at hand.
Another madness film would be maniac..Lots of great love in that movie.

Mutilation Man?!! Your right, your not ment to sugest films!!

For maddness Flicks I'd recommend these that havn't been mentioned yet

Eyes Without a Face (1960) @ dead-donkey
The Tenant (do not think there is a link for that here)

And a silly one. for the comic horror fans
Evil Ed

My fav mad scientist is still Re-Animator.

A great "realistic" madness flick.. not about killing but about madness itself
