I started watching horror when I was around 7 or 8, had a friend whose parents got all the cool stuff on pirate VHS.
As for the kids, well, me and the wife have 7 between us and the youngest, my son, is ten. He has seen a few of the more "mild" films, you kow the big name Hollywood unscarey shit.
My youngest step-kid is 14 now, she is not into horror at all, but the others mostly love it. The 3 over 18 can do what they want, but choose nothing cos they have no interest in horror. The next three range from 14 to almost 17, they can watch almost what they want, it has to be cleared by me first, and they obviously do not see the really fucked up stuff.
TBH I have been lucky, they have no problems not watching something if I say so, they have seen some of the stuff I watch.
Mind you, my step son did watch Evil Dead 1, 2 and 3 when he was 12, but it was his decision and I was there, he actually quite enjoyed the first one, but not so impressed with the next 2. I think because it was his first time with a semi decent horror film he hyped himself up too much.
I do believe alot of it is dependant on the child, my son will be the last to watch horror stuff, simply because he is not ready for it yet. Where as my step daughter, the youngest one LOL, is ready but has little inclination really.
@Felix, yep, teenage years are pretty much the guideline. I would hate them to be watching the shit I did at half there ages. I was watching all the nasty stuff from a very young age because I had easy access to them, my parents never knew LOL
