Stealth - no horror, more scifi-ish. Stupid film: modern jetfighter can think for itself due to high tech shit, and then starts to disobey humans, kills loads of people, then develops emotions, regrets everything and suicides. Big sigh. The money spent on this film would have done so much better bin any NGO project, even the fishy ones. Skip!!

Knife Edge - I thought this was gonna be a haunted house film, but it turned out to be something different. Emma gives up her career as a Wall Street broker to go and live in the English countryside with her son Thomas and her new husband Henri. Soon after they have moved into the Parkside Lodge (a huge house in the middle of nowhere), Emma starts hearing things, and Thomas has an imaginary friend called Tobias. All this is while Henri is off to work, so he has a hard time believing it all. In the meantime Henri is having his own problems, as he is in deep financial trouble, but doesn't want Emma to know about it. Is it the house, which is destroying both Emma and Henri? Or is there something else going on? The setting in this film is quite nice, the plot may not be too original, but I thought it was quite well executed. I read some reviews in which the acting was frowned upon, but I didn't think it was so bad. The actresses are all quite gorgeous, even though the lead is not so hot, she still has something over her making her an attractive woman. Tamsin Egerton was the most to my liking
Spoiler: |
The film is actually not a horror but a thriller, because all "horror stuff" is supposed to be man-made in this film

Nice, I liked it, but no Oscar material. Dolly Dearest - the female version of Chucky. An American family Wade (on my copy of the DVD it was falsely subtitled as Read) moves to a Mexican town to set up a doll factory. The man thinks he can become rich, while his daughter thinks she can get dolls for free and his son has more eyes for the archaeological dig site which is close by. On that very site an archaeologist died a few days before the family arrived. When strange things start happening and the daughter seems to become under the spell of her doll, the son goes investigating, offering his help to the newly arrived archaeologist. This guy finds out about the Sanzia tribe, who used to recruit kids for satanic rites in order to create the devil's child: half man, half goat. Slowly but steadily they get closer to the answer of the question about how the dolls all got so violent and dangerous. I liked this one, the atmosphere was great and the dolls were actually a bit scary. This one can stand next to Chucky with pride, it isn't as famous maybe, but it's not really any worse. Recommended, especially if you like killer dolls.

The Cave - a team of biologists and cave explorers dives down into an underground/underwater cavesystem somewhere in Romania. They hope to find out more about this unique ecosystem and to register any new species they might encounter. Eventually they do, but it is not the encounter they had hoped for. Average monsterfilm, with a touch of alien-stuff (the parasite). Nothing really special to mention, except that the underwater images are nice, but start to bore a bit after a while. It is also not very apparent where the team is going all the time, as their route is quite chaotic. Nice passtime, but nothing groundbreaking. See No Evil - I didn't expect much from this one, but I felt like watching a nice and no-nonsense slasher, and I got what I was looking for. A group of teenagers (who else?) from a youth detention center get to participate in a project where they have to work in some old house in order to get time off their sentence. Of course they are doing teenager stuff, like using drugs and having sex and in the meantime there is this uncompromising baldhead strolling around the house, hacking people in pieces. Nice! It was quite gory and the explanation in the end was not really necessary but it gave an OK touch to the whole thing. A cool slasher indeed, nothing special, but exactly what I was in for at the moment. Rec 3 Genesis - in this film they try to explain where the whole Rec thing came from, but they shouldn't have done that. As a standalone zombiefilm it is quite cool, but as a Rec part it fails miserably, not in the least because the whole camera thing is dropped after a while into the film. The story is simple: two people are going to marry, there is a huge party and o that party an uncle suddenly starts to bite someone and spreads his disease that way. Soon many guests have turned into zombies, and both the bride and the groom have to run for their lives. Separated, they try to find each other and get out of the place. The whole marriage thing was quite well done, but some stuff was a bit too incredible/coincidental, like the

Also, the ending was a bit predictable, although

Nice Spanish zombiefilm, shame they tried to link it to Rec.

Had some friends over for a movienight, so we watched a few together and after they left I watched some more.
Creatures from the Abyss – aka Plankton. Directed by Al Passeri, this is a nice example of Italo trash film, even though it was made years after the glorytime of Italian cinema, namely in 1994. Almost from the start there is a lot of so bad it’s good stuff, like sound being out of lipsync, rain falling into different directions, very wooden acting, etc. As soon as the core group of actors, a bunch of teenagers, arrive on a seemingly abandoned ship, things get really nice. Gratuitous nudity, some bad jokes in the mechanics of the ship (a shower with a small TV with a woman on it, asking what you want in the shower) and of course the mutant fish in the lab. Shortly after one of the girls vomits all over the bathroom, they find out how aggressive the mutant fish can be. If you like bad movies, or are a fan of Italo cinema, then this should be on your “to watch” list. Highly recommended for bad moviefans!
Battlefield Baseball – aka Jigoku Kôshien. The baseballteam of Seido highschool wants to participate in a prestigious tournament in which they used to excel years ago, but the past few years they couldn’t qualify for participating even, so the coach is hellbent on getting in. His team has some superb players, but when he hears they have to play against Gedo High in the first match, he tries to forfeit: Gedo High’s team is made of a group of zombie criminals, using the baseball field to kill people legally. By coincidence a new player joins Seido High however, and this guy Jubeh has a Super Tornado pitch, which is lethal if you want to stop it. Now the game is on! If you have seen Shaolin Soccer, you might not be surprised at everything, but still there is a lot to be enjoyed in this manga adaptation where weirdness, action, comedy, sports and horror meet each other. Recommended for bad moviefans and for fans of Japanese nonsense films.
Gory Gory Hallelujah – four people are auditioning for the role of Jesus in “the best play ever written”: a black guy, a Jew, a woman and a hippie. None of them gets the part, so they hit the road to New York to try again in the remake of Jesus Christ Superstar. Along the way they get in trouble with a large group of Elvises, because one of them stole the Chai necklace of the Jew. After that they end up in an overly christian town called Jackville, where they become part of a scheme to claim someone’s property. In the end there is an apocalyptic rise of the zombies. This film is pretty low budget, with a storyline which is a bit too much, regular overacting and bad make-up. The jokes are sometimes OK and sometimes very much unfunny. Many of them are really, really predictable, too. One of my friends kept guessing stuff right, like he had seen the film already: not a good sign for the film’s originality. We were also anxiously waiting for the zombies, but they only came in the last part of the film, which was very disappointing, not in the least because we felt we had been watching the previous part of the film for hours on end. If you’re looking fora n independent film with a lot of nonsense, you can try this one. If you are looking for a zombiefilm, please pick something else.
Beast of Blood – this is the sequel to Mad Doctor on Blood Island, which is a hilariously bad film ("I won't give up the opportunity of a lifetime, just because you think I'm mad” anyone?). In this film, the evil doctor Lorca again is experimenting on Don Ramon, some half-human monster. He keeps the head in a separate bowl, while operating on the body nearby. Dr Foster returns to Blood Island to yet again try and stop Dr Lorca. The beautiful journalist Myrna Russell accompanies him, and while Foster at first just sees her as a nuisance, she develops into his love interest of course. A lot of running through the jungle, firefights, betrayal, explosions, bad acting and dull dialogue make this a very nice bad movie too. Not as good/bad as Mad Doctor… but still really enjoyable. Recommended for bad moviefans.
Choking Hazard – I thought I had seen it all, but I hadn’t seen a Czech zombiefilm yet. A blind professor of philosophy moves to a secluded hotel in the forest with a group of students. There, they are gonna try and find out the meaning of life. They are joined by a Jehovah’s witness who is a pornstar in everyday life. They start contemplating on life, but soon they are being overrun by zombified woodsmen. There were several jokes which made me smile and/or laugh, but some were also lost in translation, I guess. I had a good time watching this, but I think there are better zombie comedies out there. Still, you can safely watch this one. Recommended.

Faceless - a late 80s Franco film, and I had read it is one of his best. I can see why: a cast with some famous names, including Telly Savalas and Caroline Munro, gives performances which you aren't used to when watching Franco films. The storyline is not very original: a doctor's daughter got acid in her face, so now the doctor wants to give her a new face. Therefore several women are being kidnapped throughout Paris, so they can provide faces to be transplanted onto the doctor's daughter. When the daughter of a rich guy gets kidnapped too, he hires a private eye to investigate. Enjoying this film became harder and harder over time, because my copy of the DVD has some factory error, and in the second half it randomly went back to the menu, rather annoying. Still, I had fun watching this Franco, it has unnecessary nudity, but it isn't as sleazy as in his other films. Caroline Munro is one of my favourite actresses, so I always enjoy watching her in a movie. Recommended.
Squirm - very nice bad film. Someone thought it had similarities with "Slugs: muerte viscosa" and I agree. In a redneck town, a storm blows over some electricity poles, and the power escapes into the ground, turning the worms there into killer monsters. The worms scream, attack terribly slowly and then eat their way into human beings. Also, every time we see the worms, there are more than the previous time. As if this is not already more than enough for a bad film to be successful, there is a lot of wooden and overacting in this film. Sadly, you have to wait almost an hour before the worm action really breaks loose. This final part of the film however, is so insanely funny that it makes up for a lot of the first hour. Recommended for bad moviefans.

Storm Warning - in this Australian film, a couple is boating around a bit, but when they get in trouble, they go ashore. There, they see a car and some people seem to drop off a heavily wounded guy. Because the woman thinks it's not OK at all, they decide to not approach the car and instead move inland. They find an abandoned house there, very dirty and messy. While walking around the house, they also find out that one of the adjacent barns houses a weed plantation. Then there is noise outside: the car they had seen before, is arriving at the house. Soon, both the man and the woman know they are in deep trouble and they will have to fight to stay alive. I thought this film would be something like Hostel, but it wasn't, it was more like I Spit on your Grave. I had fun watching this, it isn't too long and has some cool scenes. It also has some outrageously incredible things going on, so there is still room for improvement. But like I said, some funny/good scenes save it enough to have fun watching this.
Desert Vampires - aka The Forsaken. Sean has a job: he has to bring a Mercedes convertible to Florida. Contrary to his assignment, he picks up a hitchhiker, and this guy is someone special. He turns out to be a vampirehunter, hunting down the vampire who bit him, in order to not turn into a vampire himself. On the road, they find a girl who has been bitten too, and of course the vampires. The atmosphere has some similarities to films like Warlock, Sunset Vampires and Vampires 2: Los Muertos. The storyline is not really original, but it is quite cool to see a vampire "master" who is not overly powerful (with being able to fly, shapeshift, etc.). The ending was a bit corny imo, but overall I had fun. It had been a while since I had seen a vampire film, and this one was right to my taste.

Evil Breed: the legend of Samhain - about 50% of the DVD cover is reserved for Jenna Jameson, looking seductively into the camera while being strangled by some mutant arm. Of course this is a selling tactic, like the mentioning of the name of Richard Grieco (misspelled Griego btw). Grieco is in this film for just a few minutes, and Jenna's part also isn't really big. The story is unoriginal enough: a group of American students go to Ireland to study druid culture. There they meet a local who warns them not to go off the trail, because if they don't, bad things will happen. Then the students split up into pairs, who of course are gonna make out etc. OK, so far for the pile of cliches, after a while a mutant comes along and kills them all, or at least tries to. Some really nice kills, some very gory scenes (the opening scene with the couple is one of the best) and a nice touch with all the porn actresses playing parts in this film. I had fun, but it's nothing groundbreaking or anything. Bad moviefans will enjoy it, though.
Insane in the Brain - a 2007 film imitating the 70s blaxploitation films, nice! The imitation part is done right: the clothing, the music, the cars, the hair (wigs) and the talk, all is pretty much like in films such as Superfly or Foxy Brown. The story sounds original too, as it is about zombies coming out of their graves because of the pheromones shed by the whores in a nearby whorehouse. The zombies must be stopped, and Goldie and Sloan, two bad ass muthaf*ckah cops set out to complete this mission. Unfortunately, the way this story is executed, fails on several fronts. There is too little action going on, there is too much repetition, too much funky dialogue and in the end it even becomes slapstick with all the running round on the cemetery. The zombies could have been better too: a guy wearing a half-face mask and shouting "Brains! Brains!" all the time isn't scary. I thought that was a pity, because the setting and the blaxploitation them were sounding really cool. Let's hope this crew will make another movie which will be better.

Exhumed - low budget anthology movie with three stories, introduced by an old-fashioned announcer The first one, Shi no mori (Forest of Death) is set in feudal Japan, where a samurai is sent to find an ancient artifact with which one can raise the dead. He meets a monk who actually wants to stop anyone from using it, and they go find the artifact together, but they both change their minds along the way. The second story, Shadow of Tomorrow, is set in 1948 and a female private eye is hired to find out what a man's ex-wife is up to late at night. She ends up in some underground lab with a modern day dr. Frankenstein. The third story, Last Rumble, is about the near future when vampires and werewolves fight each other in clanwars. When they get attacked by humans and from both groups some are captured to fight in the arena against the living dead, they know they have to work together if they want to survive. In the end, all three films come together in a nice and original way. That was the best part about the whole thing: the final plot. I also thought it was a great job that this was achieved on a minimal budget: it doesn't really look low budget for some reason, although it is visible if you're looking for it. Almost unbelievable that director Brian Clement made this, while before he could only do something like Meat Market. Recommended.

Artefacts - some sort of a scifi-ish thriller. Kate, a young woman working in ICT, discovers that all her friends are being murdered. The murderers are doppelgangers, some sort of duplicates. The victims all have some weird metal object in their chest, and Kate is intrigued by all these things, and when she starts thinking about it, she comes to the conclusion that she and her ex Mike might be the next victims. So she visits her ex, just to find out that his doppelganger is in Mike's home. Now they have to work together to find out how this all can be stopped. Nice premise, this short film doesn't really deliver however. The story reminded me of films like They Live, but this one is somehow incomplete, it feels unfinished. The plot feels like its being a subplot for a much greater story and that story bis never told. Shame, it could have been great.
Matthew Blackheart monster smasher - a comic film based on a non-existent comic. This is a lot of everything, but not enough of anything. It tries to be funny, horror, action, scifi and comic movie all wrapped into one. The main character tries to be an Ash way too much: always a oneliner, even in the most awkward situations (up to being a real nuisance). The monsters are a bit meh, although the reptilians do some cool stuff (but then again, they are forbidden to do so because they have to act human). Contrary to Priest, I didn't enjoy this one. It was too much wanting to be a cool film, and it showed. Avoid.

Tormented - the 1960 ghostfilm. A guy pushes his mistress off a lighthouse to her death. He pursues his marriage with the other girl in his life from then on, but he keeps being haunted by the ghost of his mistress. He can't ask for any help, because on one hand he is the only person who actually sees the ghostly appearances, on the other hand he doesn't want anyone to know about the death of his mistress because he could go to jail for it, of course. The ghost gets really angry with him because he has his weddingplans, so she sets out to get revenge. A very thin storyline combined with ridiculous effects make one bad 60s movie, so only bad moviefans will enjoy this.
The Incredible Two-Headed Transplant - this one is a double feature on one DVD, together with The Thing with Two Heads, and although there are some slight differences, these two movies are pretty much alike. A somewhat mad scientist (I'd call him fanatical instead of mad) creates a two-headed creature by sawing off the head of a homicidal maniac, to put it on the body, and next to the head of a large and strong, but retarded hillbilly. This creates a situation in which the creature, once escaped from the lab, wants to kill with one head, and to care with the other. The police and the scientists both try to find the creature before it's too late, and all ends up in a symbolic apotheosis. If you have never seen a film like this, you should try it because it is so weird, but if you can choose, I'd go for The Thing with Two Heads, as I had more fun watching that one.
Return of the Living Dead 3 - it has been a while since I saw parts 1 and 2, but I read some positive reviews on this one so I was looking forward to watching this. The beginning of the story is very promising, the zombies (there aren't many) are really cool and after the first few scenes you really want to keep watching. After having seen several low budget zombieflicks with badly made up people aaarrgghing their way through the film, the zombies in this film were really refreshing to see: good action and good gore. When the main character's girlfriend dies in a motorbike accident, he is eager to bring her back to life and he knows just what to do to achieve that. Unfortunately, the side effects are that she will turn into a zombie. They try many things to make their situation at least a bit acceptable, but fate decides otherwise and solves their dilemmas in a not so expected way. I really liked the story, although it was more of a lovestory than a zombiefilm at times, and the subplot with the Mexicans was a bit obsolete in my eyes, but all in all this was a great film and the best I have seen in a while. Recommended, maybe even highly.

Halloween II - the Rob Zombie remake. I really liked the first one he did, as it actually added something to the film. In this film, I had to wait quite some time until I started enjoying what I saw. What's new in this one, is that Zombie tried to portray the thoughts of Michael Myers. That's quite a hard thing to do, and he pulled it off, but just slightly, imo. The killings are quite gory again, like in the first one, but they were really, really predictable: even a blind kid could have guessed when the killings would take place. I liked the Loomis part, with the publishing of the book, the reactions of the public and of the characters in the story. Sadly, the film takes a slow start (apart from a few kills, which were in a dream sequence), so you have to persevere a bit to get to the cool part. Ending was OK, quite final. The novelty of the Zombie remake was gone, but still this is quite well done. Recommended.
Croc - how many crocodile films can be made until people stop watching them? The answer is: a lot. Alligator, Crocodile 1 and 2, Crocodile Dundee 1 and 2, Blood Surf, Eaten Alive, Rogue, The Great Alligator, Primeval and many more I had already seen, and still I went and saw this one. And this one brings nothing really new. It has a crocodile farm which is about to be closed own by a greedy real estate developer who wants the land the farm is on, it has a bunch of beautiful Thai girls, it has Michael Madsen as a crocodile hunter, because Madsen simply shows up in almost anything lately. The ending is ridiculous and this film adds nothing to the global database of film. Better go and watch a good crocodile film and leave this one be.

Grimm Love - aka Rohtenburg (this name is misspelled a lot, just like the last name of the Oliver character: the town in reality is called Rotenburg). Thomas Kretschmann plays Oliver, a cannibal who seeks a partner for what he thinks is the ultimate act of love and sacrifice: getting eaten by him. When a guy answers his request, they plan to have a cannibalistic dinner together, where they will eat the penis of the guy who volunteered to be eaten. This does happen, and Oliver films it all. This story is not made up, it actually happened in Germany with a guy called Armin Meiwes. Some people say this film is not horror, because there is only minor gore, but the horror in this film is in what you don't see. You don't see the penis being cut off, like in Cannibal Ferox, but it has all the more impact. The film is more about the twisted psychology of Oliver, and to emphasize that, an unnecessary storyline was added about an American student doing a thesis on Oliver. Apart from this, the film really gets under your skin. Don't expect a lot of gory exploitation scenes, and you'll be fine. Recommended.
Dead Creatures - in a London apartment, a group of girls take care of their sick friend whose skin is deteriorating and who needs to eat human flesh. They are sick themselves too, as they need to eat human flesh to stay alive. In order to get the flesh they need, they lure people in to kill them so they have enough food for the entire group. A grey haired man is hunting them down however, so they have to be really careful when they are out for food. Low budget and pretty boring film. The only interesting part was when you find out what the goal of the hunter actually is, but it is too little for 88 minutes of film. I thought this one might be cool, because until now I liked British zombiefilms, but this one isn't really a zombiefilm and it wasn't really enjoyable either.

Evil - aka Maléfique. Carrère, a businessman, has used his company to enrich himself in a big fraud, but now he got caught and he ends up in a jailcell together with a violent transsexual called Marcus, a murderer called Lassalle, and a disturbed guy who eats anything and is some sort of a sidekick to Marcus, called Pâquerette. Escape talk soon is about, when Carrère discovers an ancient book in the wall, filled with black magic stuff. In the book there is also a journal from a guy who was imprisoned in the same cell in the '20s, and he writes about his going away through the wall, with the book. Now the four men are trying to find out how they can use the book to get out, but they are in for a nasty surprise. The storyline reminded me a bit of those horror stories where someone gets to make a wish, or three wishes, and then it turns out to be something horrible. The acting was good in this one, and there is a shitton of weirdness going on, like it should in a French film. Atmosphere is grim at times, I really enjoyed this one. Recommended.
Necropolis Awakened - I had read a lot of positive reviews on this one, that's why i bought it. I must say, I can see why the reviewers were so positive as this film was made with a budget of 7.000 dollars and it entertains you quite a bit. The story is a bit odd: a guy comes near a town where everyone is undead or affiliated with the undead and their leader, Nepharious Thorne, wants to eliminate the last human: Bob. They do a lot of chasing, often in cars. This is pretty smart, because that way the filmmakers can make scenes where one actor is playing two opponents in a believable way. The undead look like shit, but that was a bit to be expected. Thorne however looks quite cool, and could have stepped out of a Hellraiser movie any time. There are some scenes which seem to be hot lately in zombiefilms: humans pitted against zombies in an arena-like setting. It was fun,m but it couldn't grab my attention for the entire running time of the film. The overacting was sometimes a bit too much, but still, it was an OK film.

Cold Prey - aka Fritt Vilt. Five young Norwegians go skiing, but after one of them broke his ankle, they have to call it quits. They find a place to stay in an abandoned hotel, but they aren't alone there. Soon they find out that what's lurking around in the hotel, isn't so friendly, as traces of past events are becoming more and more obvious to the five friends. Of course they ow have to run for their lives, but given the broken ankle, that is not so easy. I felt like watching an old-time slasher, but instead I watched this one. Still, this one has a lot of qualities the old timers have too so had a good time watching this one. Of course there were some things which didn't look like logical behaviour, but since I don't expect films like this to be realistic, that's fine by me. Atmosphere was good, the growing tension until the group finds out what's going on is being filmed in a very convincing way and that part of the film actually got under my skin. The ending was a bit predictable, but this is a good movie anyway. Recommended.
Jennie's Drowning - aka Death Dreams. This film was a bit of a mystery to me when I bought it, because both the DVD cover and the print on the disc itself say that this film is Deadly Behaviour. However, it isn't. It must be some factory error, but it gave me Death Dreams instead and that is actually quite a good film, made for TV in the early 90s. In this one, Christopher Reeves plays a successful Wall Street broker who marries Crista, a woman who has a daughter from an earlier marriage, Jennie. One day, Jennie drowns, and when Crista almost dies herself in a car crash, she starts seeing and hearing Jennie. Crista seeks help from a psychiatrist with a dubious background, but they do get more encounters with Jennie. Jennie tries to tell Crista something about her death, and slowly but steadily Crista finds out that the cause of Jennie's death is closer than she had expected. Atmospheric film, in which you never get to see the ghost, but you do see it's impact. Acting is very good, especially Marg Helgenberger as Crista plays a fine role. Again, the ending was a bit predictable, but I enjoyed watching this one. It might even have been a good film for the big screen. Recommended.
Maximum Impact - a movie brought to you by The Bad Movie Police, so you know what you are in for. Well, it was quite OK for a bad film. It had bvad effects, that's for sure, and also very bad make-up. The story was not too complicated and after 60 minutes everything was over. OK timefiller, especially on a long movienight with friends.Only for bad moviefans.

The Gingerdead Man - Charles Band fun with some cheap tricks, like putting Gary Busey's name on the cover and then have him act for only two minutes at the start of the film. He plays a killer whose soul gets inside a gingerbread man after his death. This gingerbread man comes to life and starts killing again, going after the girl who brought him to justice especially. Some funny scenes, some OK gore and of course the hilarious gingerbread man talking dirty and slashing his way through the bakery. I enjoyed watching Robin Sydney, a Charles Band regular, again. Mindless fun for one hour, recommended for bad moviefans.
Bio-Cops - some sort of a sequel to Bio-Cop. A cop becomes a zombie after being bitten by a man who was injected with some sort of a serum which was meant to create an army which could withstand all sorts of pain. After he is arrested for punching people in a fight, he becomes a king of the zombies in prison. In order to contain the outbreak, the police has to cooperate with gangsters. This Hong Kong film has some weird and hilarious humour, and while I couldn't follow the storyline all the time, I did have some fun. Especially some unintentional fun, like with the English subs, obviously written by one of the cast or crew, because it has many funny mistakes. The zombies look a bit shitty and they are described as being vampires on the cover, although they don't drink blood and just bite people in order to infect and eat them. If you're open to some weird Asian horror, or if you are a bad moviefan, this might be for you.

Sleep Tight - aka Mientras Duermes. Jaume Balaguero, the guy who brought you REC, now brings you this: a chilling thriller about a guy who is a total a**hole. Cesar is a caretaker in an apartment building, and he has a lot of personal issues. He doesn't speak about them, only his mother who is in the hospital and can't talk, hears of these issues. For the rest of the world, Cesar keeps up appearances: he is the friendly and always helpful caretaker in the building, but what everyone living there doesn't know, is that Cesar abuses his powers of access to the apartments to spy on people. He also gossips a lot and plays out people against each other. With one inhabitant, Clara, he is totally obsessed, and to her he does more than just spy. While you don't get to see much shocking stuff (there is only one gory scene in the entire film), the story itself is really shocking. What this guy does to satisfy himself in order to deal with his issues is rather extreme and destructive. It is almost unimaginable how mean people can be to others, but Balaguero shows it in this film. Superb acting, grim atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Decadent Evil - reading the plot summary, I thought this would be about a mutant monster with it's sexual frustrations, but instead it is mostly about a small family of female vampires. When one of the "sisters" dates a human man, things start to get funky for the vampire mistress, because via this man a dwarf vampire hunter can get near her and get revenge for what she did to his father years ago. This Charles Band shorty (~60 mins) was not as funny as most others I have seen by him, but it had loads of tits to make up for the lack of humour. Acting was Band-level, gore was OK and after one hour you might feel satisfied having seen a nice and silly B-movie with no pretension at all. Bad moviefans should take a look indeed.

Isolation - this movie proves that you can make an interesting film with a very small cast. There are actually just 6 characters, and in the last scene there is a 7th who only has a few lines and then the film ends. The story is about a lonely farmer who is participating in an experiment led by a scientist and with the aid of a veterinarian. The farmer has cows on which the scientist does the experiment. Coincidentally, two runaway teens are nearby when a cow has to give birth. When the guy helps out the farmer, they encounter a problem, and they need all the help they can get to contain it. The atmosphere is good, you get the feeling of being in some desolate landscape, on the only farm in the entire country. The acting is good too, the framer is really desperate about helping out hos cows, while the scientist is all set on getting results from the experiment. The gore is great: atmosphere and gore made me think of The Thing, which is one of my all time favourite films. Cool ending too, and although my disc was stuttering because of some minor damage, I had a great viewing experience. Highly recommended!
Street Zombies - aka Ozone. When a new drug hits the streets, a pair of cops is going after it. But in a setup to catch a big dealer, one cop gets injected with the drug, and his partner goes off after the buyer but ends up being caught by the gang who runs the drugs. The injected cop now starts to see zombies all around him, and he gets the impression that he has ended up in an apocalyptic setting. To save himself he shoots most of the zombies but he can't kill them all, so eventually he too gets caught and finds himself in the lair of the drug lord: soon, he'll blow himself a way out of there. A JR Bookwalter film, so it is low budget, with a lot of B-film regulars like James Black and Bill Morrison. Acting is wooden at best, effects are laughable and zombie make up is paper mache by kids. Some stuff was a bit funny, but overall it fell a bit flat on me. I have seen better, both zombiefilms and Bookwalter flicks.

Resident Evil - the first one. A secret company called Umbrella Corp. has an underground research center where experiments are done on viruses etc. One day the virus gets loose in the building and Red Queen, the central computer system running the entire building, sets out to kill each and every member of the staff present inside. Enter Milla Jovovich with a few commandos: they will solve all your problems. I was pretty hammered and I only had time for one film, so I put this one in as I thought I wouldn't have to think much. It made me think anyway, because when they were entering the labs filled with water, I recognized the scene. However, I couldn't find a review here, so I wasn't sure. When the scene with the beams in the corridor came up however, I was sure: I had seen this film already. However, I was too tired to change the film and since I didn't recognize much of the remainder of the movie, that wasn't so bad. It must have been more than 6 years ago that I have seen this, and with having seen hundreds of movies in between, I wasn't really surprised. OK film, this one. Nice action, sometimes a bit predictable, good enough plot and decent zombies, The dullest thing was the mutated monster. No must see, but enjoyable enough to give it a go.

Theatre of the Deranged – lowbudget anthology, made in the same fashion as Treasure Chest of Horrors, but a tad better than that one. The wraparound story is by a guy with a halfburnt face and he does some shirt intros everytime. A bit forced, but at least not as annoying as the pirate in Treasure Chest… There a re five stories: "Lust For Blood" has Shawn C. Phillips squirting gore all over the place; "Bad Dennis" is a nice try to make something special, and with some more means this could have become something, "Speak Easy" is quite boring to see, but the dialogue and the way it was put into the film keeps some promises from this director; "Doll Parts" was quite OK, might wanna see that one again; "Cannibal Blood Girl" had a stupid start, but the climax was cool, with a totally blooded cannibal girl eating people. Some nice ideas, but very lowbudget indeed, so if that’s your thing, go for it.

Zombie – aka I Eat Your Skin. This movie, which is incorrectly labeled as Zombies on imdb, was filmed in 1964, but only released in 1971 with the I Eat Your Skin-title (on a double-bill with I Drink Your Blood). It’s a black and white feature with old-fashioned zombies, the Haitian type with voodoo and all. It also has a lot of lame early 60s jokes, some romantic escapades and ridiculous effects, especially when it comes to the zombies and the “explosions”. Acting is mediocre at best and especially the natives act like dolls. The cast does have the gorgeous Heather Hewitt though, which makes up for a whole lot this movie does wring. I laughed regularly because the story is so stupid, and the plot is really predictable from like 20 minutes in. Good times for bad moviefans, but if you’re not one of them steer clear of this film.
Tormented – Darren Mullet is an asthmatic fat guy who got bullied every day of his life. The “cool gang” mocked him, filmed it and put it online as often as they saw fit. But now Darren killed himself, so the bullying has ended. Or has it? The gang doesn’t mourn Darren, they throw a party instead. When Justine (the head girl of the school) joins it, she gets involved in the cool gang via Alexis, who courts her. At the party, several members of the gang get text messages from Darren, like he has risen from the dead. They all think it’s a joke. Slowly but steadily Justine finds out how bad the bullying of Darren was, and while people start to die around her, she is determined to get to the bottom of it. Cool story, classic school storyline with cool people, nerds, goths and bullying, etc. The ending wasn’t a real surprise to me, but still it was a good idea and I enjoyed it. Nice British horror, with all the goodies you can get: tits, nice kills, gore, etc. Recommended.
