Time for an Italian movienight! When the plans were made for my new home cinema, I was looking for some nice Italian films to watch and these three were the first to be put on the list: Un Bianco Vestito per Marialé - before Romano Scavolini made the infamous Nightmare in a Damaged Brain, he made this film, which is also known as "Blood on a White Dress", or "Soirits of Death". It's a giallo-esque film in a Gothic setting. Marialé, a woman who witnessed her father killing her mother for adultery when she was a little girl, invites some old friends to the castle she lives in with her husband Paolo. They are having some decadent party until one of the friends turns up dead. Now the big "whodunnit"show starts, but if you have even the slightest experience with this genre, it is a very easy guess. Atmopshere is reat and the typical Italian filmstyle is omnipresent in both the camera work, the music and the effects (an obviously fake snake being pulled with a visible wire, for example). I had a great time watching this, also because it has some great stars of Italian cinema in the cast, like Ivan Rassimov. Pilar Velazquez provides the necessary female beauty and there is also some gore, but that's not overdone. Highly recommended for Italo fans! Libido Mania - not exactly a film, this piece made by Bruno Mattei. Probably meant as a documentary, it turns out to be some sort of a mondo film. The subject is sex in it's weirdest forms, so it dels with fetishism and cultural habits concerning sex which are strange to us. Lots of scenes are acted out, as you can clearly see in some of them. For example the "natives" scenes are supposed to be in different African countries, but you can see the same negroes in different scenes. There are also some gruesome actions which are obviously fake, like
Spoiler: |
when a penis is cut off as a punishment for adultery, or when a woman poops over her husband because it arouses him
|
Some other scenes might be real, like the sex change operation. I wasn't sure if that was real, but I was grossed out anyway. A bit annoying is that apparently not all audio tapes have been preserved and therefore, half of the audio is in German and half in Italian. Well, I guess we can take that as an example of Italian filmmaking in the 70s, right? This one must have been shocking back in the 70s and some of the stuff is still quite shocking today. Only for Italo fans or fans of the weird and extreme. Eaters: rise of the dead - by this time I was starting to get tired, but this film was actually quite funny so it kept me awake throughout. Contrary to the first two titles, this one is not from the 70s but from 2010. It's a bit like Zombieland, I guess the directors of this one had seen Zombieland while or before making this. It's a bit more grim, though: no women, more killing and gore. Dialogues are quite funny, but atmosphere doesn't add up to it: it's a cold atmosphere, almost desperate. That fits the story, but since the dialogue is funny you won't remain in a desolate state after having watched this. Enough zombie action, a little thought behind the plot and quite nice effects. I'd say this is an above average zombiefilm and it proves that Italian cinema is still alive! First film was the best, but Italo rocks once again, also with the other two titles.

Haunter - after wargand's review on this (back in January) I had the chance to buy this for a good price so I gave it a chance. I noticed after getting it that it was a Vincenzo Natali film, which surprised me, because his previous efforts I had seen (Cube, Splice) were both more scifi than horror. This one however, is a ghost story with a twist. Or more than one, as I might say. Lisa is supposed to become 16 the next day, but the day before her birthday keeps repeating itself over and over again. She really gets bored of this, especially because she seems to be the only one noticing it. She goes investigating, and starts to find out that not all is what it seems to her. This was a great film! Every time something got solved, a new puzzle appeared, and Lisa would have to go on to find out about it again. This made the film really interesting and it kept me on the edge, too. You have to pay attention not to miss anything, which is a good thing in many cases - this being one of them. I'm sure that when I'll rewatch this, I'll notice stuff that I missed this time around, and I'm sure I'll give this one a rewatch not too far into the future! Acting is great, and the mystery keeps you on the edge of your seat thorughout. The ending was OK, although it was also a tad overdone. While the premise isn't totally new, the way it is being worked out into a film is very refreshing. Highly recommended, even if you disliked Natali's previous films!

Tower of Evil – aka Horror on Snape Island. Early 70s British horror, about an island which has a bad name. A girl got arrested there because she was found with 4 dead bodies lying around. She is accused of having murdered her three friends and a fisherman who found her, but there are some people having doubts about this verdict. So they go to the damned island to find out what is going on there. Atmospheric, but also a tad childish: the effects were really bad at certain points (like the miniature lighthouse and the boatscenes being obviously shot in front of a bluescreen). The story is OK, and acting is everything between wooden and acceptable. Anna Palk gives us the default female beauty, and she does it well. If you like 70s horror, this is for you. Just don’t expect a masterpiece.

Strange Behavior - this film is a tad weird. I thought it'd be a slasher, but it is more than just that: also a bit of a mystery. In a town people get killed, and when the police starts investigating, they bump into the local faculty of psychology where behavioral research is being conducted. The inspector, John Brady, suspect that they have something to do with the deaths, but he can't prove it. His son, a student, might be in danger too if he doesn't ind out fast what is going on. What is interesting about this plot, is that after the first kill
Spoiler: |
you start guessing, like in any slasher, who the killer might be. But then, after the second kill, you see who did it. After the third kill, made by someone else, you start to realise there is more than one killer.
|
Of course you might have your suspicions about the origins of the killings, and they will probably come true, as it isn't really hard to find out after a while. Atmosphere is great, I loved it! Even though acting wasn't top notch I still had fun watching this one. If you like early 80s slashers, you might find this one interesting.

Killer Mermaid 2014Boring. Group of Americans have a vacation in a Mediterranean area. Visit island. On this island lives and old man and a mermaid. Old man kills people to feed mermaid. So done. Nothing more to this story. Could have been good, but 90% of the film is running around, screaming, bitching. I managed only to sit through it by graciously using the fast forward button to skip the most boring parts. The film is technically ok, but from the story definitely 45 minutes too long. Would have made an ok twilight zone episode.

Mantis in Lace - aka Lila. Susan Stewart is Lila, a dancer in a club who dates visitors of the club after work. She then takes them to an abandoned warehouse where she has sex with them. One night, he takes LSD while doing it, and she has a bad trip. In this trip she murders her lover, and she gets addicted to the LSD and sex combo too. So night after night she goes to work, and afterwards she takes one of the men to the warehouse where she trips and kills. Soon the police tracks her down and when they find out what she is up to, they are gonna stop her. Psychedelic film, with trippy lighting and somewhat annoying effects where red, yellow and blue lights are flashing across the screen. This adds much to the 60s atmosphere, though. Weird stuff, only for fans of the unknown.
Two Orphan Vampires - the longest Rollin film I have ever seen, and the extra length didn't serve any purpose unfortunately. The film starts out promising enough, with the story picking up fast, OK setting and rather good music. But after some 25 minutes, this goodd feeling starts to shake a little, then falls oer and crashes down into a circle of repetition and therefore boredom, like Rollin has been able to achieve in almost every film he made. Shame, because this could have been quite nice, considering the opening scenes. Well, I guess I'll just watch the one Rollin I have left and then leave this director be.

Sleepaway Camp – a slasher just as you expect them to be: a setting with lots of teenagers, a background story with enough ground for several killers, some wooden and some overacting and a guessable killer. The plot twist at the end is really bizarre and it left me a bit baffled, but it added some nice weirdness to it all. The kills could have been a bit gorier to my taste, but overall I had a lot of fun watching this pile of cliches. The overacting was the best, sometimes I had the feeling I was watching a school play. I recommend it to everyone not looking for a serious horror.
Hard Revenge Milly – J-sploitation without the overexcessive weirdness. Just some hardcore action by a mutilated woman who is taking revenge on the gang who murdered her husband and killed her child. Fountains of blood galore, extreme violence, ingenious weaponry but nothing supernatural. A nice short one: 45 minutes only. Recommended for J-fans.
Last Rites – strange vampire film. The aptly named Dr. A. Lucard runs a funeral home on the edge of town. Lots of “accidents” happen in order to sustain a continuous flow of fresh blood for the doctor and his fellow vampires, but when one of the recenty deceased gets away from the funeral home, their way of life is being threatened. Even more so when the remaining family members insist on having the corpse back in their own home. This film is so low budget that sometimes it cuts a scene (screen goes black) in the middle of something and the next thing you get to see is something entirely different! It made me think of anos’the Hands of Fate, although this film had a somewhat followable storyline and Manos doesn’t. The attempts to be funny fail miserably most of the time, but since it was B-grade fun to begin with, I enjoyed it anyway. Recommended for bad moviefans. Spot the continuity, guys!

The Birthday – Corey Feldman’s comeback movie, if we are to believe the backside of the DVD sleeve. It also references Loveracft, Lynch and Donnie Darko. Well, it really is a mysterous movie. Atmopshere hits the nail right on the head: at first you might think nothing is wrong with the party where Feldman’s character Norman Forrester attends to please his girlfriend. Although her father is a somewhat rude man with a creaky voice, and her mother seems to be katatonic, all else looks to be quite normal. After having strolled around in the hotel where the party is held, Norman finds out there are some weird things going on, and he has to act before it is too late. But aside from the great danger he wants to stop, there are several more surprises in store for him. The strongpoints of this film are the setting (the hotel reminded me of the Overlook Hotel, just smaller), the storyline and the weird atmosphere. Feldman does a good job at acting, although his accent annoyed the hell out of me. I had a great time watching this, however. Good thing I bought this. Highly recommended.
Shocking Asia III after dark – having seen Shocking Africa before, I was in for some nasty scenes in this mondo film. Unfortunately, this one couldn’t even come close to Shocking Africa. It deals mostly with Japanese sexlife, which is strange, yes, but not quite as shocking as some other stuff we could have seen. Shemales, fetish sex, strange forms of prostitution, it became even a bit boring. I didn’t put this into the DVD player to see two Japanese people have sex for 15 minutes, so I used the ffwd frequently. The piercing parade was a lot better in this aspect: that was quite shocking indeed. People making holes in their cheeks in which you ccould fit a tennisball, just to carry around some TL lights in a parade, or licking a sawblade to you bleed all over. That’s the kind of stuff I had expected to see more. Since this is part III, maybe parts I and II have more of this. Let’s hope so, because that’s what makes mondo special, imo.
There’s Nothing Out There! – hilarious Troma film about an alien. In a classic setting of a cabin in the woods, a group of teenagers (half of them one time actors, only in this film) are gonna spend a weekend. One of them is a horrorfilm expert and he sees danger everywhere, and warns the others about it. They all don’t believe him, but before long some of the teens start to disappear. The culprit is a green slimy monster which leaves green goo around and spits green beams from it’s eyes and has sock puppets for tentacles. Bad taste galore in this one, but it’s really tongue in cheek, as they make fun of almost all horror cliches you kno wand of B-movies in general, too. In one scene for exampe, the microphone appears in the image, and one of the charcters uses it to swing himself out of the window to safety. I had a great time watching this, but it’s for bad moviefans only, or maybe for people who are in for a nice spoof movie. Recommended.

Hellblock 13 - in this Troma anthology, Debbie Rochon stars as a serial killer who is about to get the chair. When her executioner comes by, she tells him three stories about death. In the first one, a mother goes to the police to report her children missing, but the police smells something fishy. The woman has nightmares in which her children appear in a zombie-like shape, and the gore is great. The plot is simple and straightforward, nothing wrong with it, but nothing special either. The second story is about a trailer trash marriage with some domestic violence to go. The woman can't bear it any longer, so he goes to her neighbour who is a witch apparently. There she learns how to get ri of her abusive husband, but well, you have to do it right, of course. Nice ending, didn't see that coming. First half is a bit boring, though. Last story is about a bikergang which travels south to Mexico to get dope. Along the way, they stop by at a holy place where they worship the baddest bikerchick ever, Big Rhonda. In a gruesome ritual, the bikers pay homage to her, and when it turns out that new guy Chaney seems to be somethign else than he suggested, a clash between hi and Rhonda will be the ultimate climax of the night. Again, great gore in this one. Also some slutty eyecandy which performs some unnecessary lesbian action. Thirs was he best, than first, second was a bit forgettable. All in all a nice effort, and the wraparound story had a good twist at the end, too. Nice. If you like Troma, or if you are looking for gore and not much else, this is for you.

Horror Hospital – British horror from the 70s. When Jason, a young lad working in the music industry has had a bad night, he gets the advice to go on a holiday. Via an ad he gets to Hairy Holidays, trips away to the countryside in an old manor. On his way there, Jason meets Judy, a girl going to visit her aunt whom she has never met before but who is the last remaining relative on the planet. Upon arrival, they receive a room together, even though they barely know each other. Unknown to them, this manor isn’t a normal house: it’s the location for the medical experiments of Dr. Storm, who makes soulless zombies out of youngsters, with the help of Frederick the Dwarf and the leather clad biker minions. The sptyr is a bit over the top, biut the atmosphere is very nice: the manor is a cool location for a film like this. In the end, the film goes a little overboard:
Spoiler: |
Abraham doesn’t even do one attempt to take his zombified girlfriend with him, they drive the decapitation car like they did it everyday and there are suddenly way more biker guys than before in the entire film
|
But, the film enjoyed me and it should do sof or all fans of 70s horror. Recommended. Necromancer – 1988 movie about Julie, a co-ed who used to date her drama teacher. She gets raped by a few guys but is afraid to tell anyone because of the consequences: she might lose her scholarship. So in order to get revenge, she calls on a witch who possesses demonic powers (don't expect any demonic figures coming on screen, though). Soon, the first guys are being killed, and everytime they see an appearance of Julie just before they die (this is the actual demon). When the witch goes n a real killing spree, Julie wants her to stop, but she doesn’t know how. With the help of her friend and of the boy who aided the witch before, they are gonna try before every man in her surroundings is dead. Pretty cheesy 80s horror, with ridiculous effects (the green eyes are laughable) and very. Very bad haircuts and fashion. A nice treat for bad moviefans!

The House that Bled to Death - first episode of the Hammer House of Horror TV series. A family moves into a new home, where a murder has occurred. After a while, the house starts to act strange, and the cat dies. From that moment on, more and more weird stuff is happening, climaxing on a children's birthday party. The plot twist at the end was cool, and the Pet Sematary-like ending was even cooler. Acting OK, atmosphere good. The blood could have looked a bit more natural. Overall a nice watch, curious about the rest.

Terror Train – nice slasher with scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis in a leading role. A prank in a fraternity goes wrong and the victim is hospitalized. Three years later, upon graduation, the group who did the prank has a huge costume party on a train. When they leave, one of them ends up on the platform with a sword in his stomach. The others, thinking it is yet another prank, get aboard and go on partying. There is the rather standard relational fuzz with the students, there is a series of performances by a young David Copperfield playing Ken the Magician, and then there is the murder mystery. Not much gore, but loads of atmosphere! The shots of the train from outside with the headlamps shining on the falling snow are great. It was really easy to guess the killer, and that was a bit of a bummer (because I knkew it almost during the entire film and I was just waiting for all characters in the film to find out – which they do reallly slowly). Still, a very enjoyable 1980 slasher, recommended!
Necrophile Passion – cultfilm from Austria. I bought a signed copy of this, not knowing the film at all, or the filmmakers, for that matter. It’s a short film, only 52 minutes, and those are divided into 5 or 6 chapters. These chapters are quite sharp turns from the storyline at times, and the only thing binding them together is the character of the necrophile, even though he is not in all of the chapters. The result is a strange film, which grosses out ikn subject. Sadly the effects are good but not top notch, so you can easily spot that the dead body is in fact a bunch of ducttape put together. The necrophile scene with the woman is even stranger, because she is fornicating into thin air, weird. All-in all this is one for the fans of weird cinema. If you are looking for a normal film with a storyline which you can follow skip this one. If you’re into strange cult, take it.
The Thompsons – the sequel to The Hamiltons, which I found a rather original and somewhat surprising movie. The Thompsons goes on where Hamiltons left off. Originality is now lost, of course, because you know what the deal is with the family. Still, this film entertains and remains interesting for the larger part of it’s running time. Editing was really cool in this one, with parts of stories coming together with the help of flashbacks and flash forwards. Nice job there! It sounds a bit dull if I write it like this here, but I can assure you the result was good. Enough blood and again a little twist made this one interesting too. Don’t watch this if you haven’t seen Hamiltons yet! Recommended.

Another HHoH episode:
The Silent Scream - Hammer veteran Peter Cushing plays a petshop owner who builds on a relationship with an ex-con, in order to lure him into his project. The proect is about training, and he has a basement full of animals which are his collection. The setup is very cunning, the petshop owner thought of everything before it happened. Well, almost everything... Acting is nice, and even though the cast is really small, the story is convincing. Cool ending, too.

An episode of Fear Itself: The Sacrifice - a bunch of guys committed a crime and one of them got shot. Now they are on the run and in the middle of nowhere their car breaks down. Fortunately, they see smoke on the horizon, but the house it comes from looks like a fortress, and the fact that it's inhabited by three beautiful young girls who know nothing about the ouytside world doesn't make things any clearer. It doesn't take long before they find out that they aren't just guests in the house. Story is not really original, but the way it is presented was quite cool. It took a while before I foud out that this little story was actually about and that was quite cool, a mystery in such a short story. The girls (Rachel Miner, Mircea Monroe and Michelle Molineux) look gorgeous, the ending was satisfactory. Entertaining to say the least: a good start for the series. Dracula in Pakistan – aka Zinda Laash. This Pakistan horrormovie from 1967 received an X rating because it was “vulgar”. What’s so vulgar about this, then? Well, go see for yourself, but at least it’s not nudity, violence or bad language so I LOL-ed at the rating. This being a Pakistan film, it has certain Bollywood-like qualities, like when there is some tension built up in the hunt for Dracula, all of a sudden we are in a bar and a woman is singing and dancing a lovesong. This happens frequently, and while this should be enough to make this film weird, there is also the first and the second half: after some time, you get to see a black screen with white letters “Interval” on it. After this, it seems like you’re watching a different film! The first half is pretty close to the story of Bram Stoker (except for the singing/dancng woman of course), but the second half goes totally overboard. Cult of the highest order, this one. Watch it with friends, or with beer or anythingm because otherwise you might not be able to take it. Recommended (highly) for bad moviefans.

Mean Johnny Barrows - Fred Williamson directs and stars in the lead in this blaxploitation, one of the last two on the Urban Action Box. Dishonorably ischarged from the service, this Vietnam vet roams the streets in search of a job. He gets mixed up with feuding mafiosi families, and tries to steer clear of trouble. So he takes a job as a cleaner in a garage, but the mobsters are trying to put pressure on him to join their team. One of the means to do so is the lovely Nancy, the girl of one of the mafia men. In the end Johnny can't resist anymore. This film was made to bring a message about war veterans being unemployed later ("Peace is hell"), and it seems like that was the main thing, because the rest of the film is a bit half assed. There is a nice setup for a beautiful plot twist, but in the end it works out pretty straightforward. The action is mediocre and although the theme song is great, there is only one song played throughout the entire film. Below average, this blaxploitation. Fred has done better.

Mozart is a Murderer – this late giallo by Sergio Martino is about a group of music students at the music school of Milano. Their teacher is harsh on them after a failed performance, and soon after one of them is dead. Now, a series of killings occurs, and police commissar Maccari has to search for the killer before more victims will be found. His personality is a special one, as his wife was murdered 6 years ago and now he is dating a psychiatrist who has one of the music students in her care. Maccari has a difficult task, because both the teacher, his assistant and the students or one of their friends can be the killer. Because of this police part, this film is a light mix between giallo and polizziotteschi, but fortunately it tends to be a giallo more. This giallo gives away a load of red herrings, and I had two candidates for the killer of which one indeed turned out to be the one. Atmopshere is great in this film, and the music really adds tot hat. Acting is good, I didn’t know many members of the cast but the performances were really nice. I enjoyed this giallo a lot, as it has so many characteristics from the golden age in it. It isn’t Martino’s best one, but it is still good and especially because it was made so late (1999), I was pleasantly surprised. Recommended!
The Unborn – Brooke Adams plays Virginia Marshall, a woman who wants children, but has had a few miscarriages before. In order to become a mother against all odds, her husband takes her to a certain Dr. Meyerling, who can work miracles. It doesn’t take long before Viriginia is indeed pregnant. In her pregnancy, she visits a women’s group for giving birth “without male doctrine” and she has regular visits to the clinic of Meyerling. After a while, though, she gets symptoms which are considered normal by Meyerling, but Viriginia finds out that they aren’t really so normal. When one of the other women who visited both Meyerling and the women’s group is missing, Virginia starts to become more and more suspicious. Not only of Meyerling, but also of what’s inside her. In a race against time, she tries everything which is in her power to prevent a disaster coming out of her. Delicious B-movie trash, this. The theme is taken from famous films like Rosemary’s Baby, but instead of suspense you get some violence and gore. Acting is everything between OK and mediocre, music is quite good and atmosphere is what made this film for me. Recommended, especially for B-moviefans.

Horns 2013Surprisingly good. Not perfect, especially the end, but all in all I liked the film. Has an original idea. Young man's gf is murdered. He is the only suspect. When a pair of horns grow from his temple, they make everyone act on their darker desires, which sometimes adds a dash of comedy to the film. Has also some minor gore. Not sure this film really needs 2hrs play time, but it did not bore me... which is nowadays somewhat rare.

Killer Condom - aka Kondom des Grauens. To my surprise this was a German film (I didn't take a close look at the DVD backside) and it was hardsubbed in English. Even more surprising was that it played out in New York, and I recognised several locations in the city, so there must have been some budget to get all those German actors to NY and shoot the film. The film itself is hilarious: a homosexual cop investigates a series of incidents in Hotel Quickie, where several men had their penises bitten off. It doesn't take him long to find out that a killer condom is at work, now he "just" has to convince his colleagues and boss that he is actually right about this. In the meantime he meets a gigolo and falls in love, even though that's against his principles. More or less together they are gonna find out where the killer condoms come from, and they end up in a secret lab where they are being manufactured by an evil person. I had a great time watching this, it wasn't typical Troma, and that's a good thing in some aspects. I loved this, that's for sure! Recommended, especially for bad moviefans.

Rear Window - I have seen a few Hitchcock films, and I was really curious about this one. The last I had seen was Vertigo and the plot in the end really blew my mind, so I had high hopes for this one. Unfortunately, it couldn't really fulfill them all. The story is about a photographer who broke his leg and now spends his days watching his neighbours through his window. One day he sees something odd and he suspects one of his neighbours to have killed his crippled wife. He shares his thouh\ghts with a few people: his nurse, his girlfriend and an old friend who has become ad etective. Some believe him, some don't. He keeps watching the neighbour because he is quite sure of himself, but he never saw anything beyond reasonable doubt. The question is: did the neighbour actually kill his wife, or didn't he? In his quest, his girlfriend wants to help him out so muich that she takes it to the apartment of the neighbour itself, to investigate. This leads to a final apotheosis in which there is a subtle message about who is good and who is bad. I guess it is the subtlety which was a bit too much for me. It is a well crafted film, I loved the set (all apartments are fake, but they built an entire complex on the set to make it look like real apartments) and all the different normal things people are doing in their respective homes. I also liked the traditional director's cameo and the acting is great. Still, there wasn't enough surprise for me in this film, and although the deeper message was there in the apotheosis, the plain plot was clear from the start imo. Still a classic of course, but not Hitchcock's best if you ask me. I'd rather watch Psycho or Vertigo again.

Hard Revenge Milly: Bloody Battle – recently I had watched Hard Revenge Milly, and on the same disc there is the sequel. Although it isn’t really bad, it wasn’t really necessary to ake this, imo. It is more of the same: Milly fights against some thugs, now together with a other girl who seeks revenge for the murder of her boyfriend. The twist is quite nice but it can’t save this short (75 mins) film. Since the first film was only 45 minutes, I feel like the director should have taken the best parts of both and make a 90 mins film out of it.
The Fly – I had the opportunity to buy the Fly Chamber Collection for a nice price so now I have all Fly films together in one cool box. This gives me the chance to watch the three classic Fly films so yesterday I started with the first one. Vincent Price is a scientist whose brother is working on a secret formula to teleport stuff. Before he finds out about this, his sister-in-law is arrested for murder: on her husband. The story is told in flashback mostly, but I liked that, as it was “refreshing” compared to the Cronenberg film (which I had seen a few times already before I got this one). Acting is good, especially from Price and Patricia Owens (the sister-in-law), effects could be better of course, as it is the 50s, but I have seen (much) worse. The ending was really cool! I didn’t expect that at all, but it was actually scary as hell. Recommended.
Vault of Horror – five men end up in a basement with no way out, They start to tell each other stories about fear of death: one man dreamt of murdering his sister for a heritage but finds out that the village she lives in has something special about being dead; another man had a vision of himself marrying a woman who doesn’t live up to his extreme neatness and then gets murdered by her; the third man is a magician who visits India, reveals the fakeness of some tricks by magicians over there, but then finds a woman who has a rope which can dance to music (although the thread it hangs from is really visible): he wants to buy the trick, and when she doesn’t sell, he goes to extremes to get it anyway, to his own demise of course; the fourth man found himself buried alive in a con trick to get insurance money, but the trick works out totally wrong in different ways (one of which is quite obvious, even if you haven’t seen a single minute of this film); the last one is about an artist who gets voodoo powers in his paintings and then starts to kill everyone who wronged him in the past. The wraparound story is a bit dull, but all in all this anthology is really nice and recommended if you like this stuff. A ’73 classic, so go for it!
