Apart from a wardocumentary I saw these yesterday:

Four Flies On Grey Velvet - nice Argento movie. Again it's a crime mystery, and because it is often lacking horror elements, these films start wearing me out. Don't get me wrong, the movies are well made, but it's just not my type of movie, though I can enjoy some of them.

Premutos - Ittenbach gorefest. Stupid story, but man, what an amount of gore! The subtitles by gorehound were very irritating, I'll see if I can do anything about it.

Last night I watched American Gangster (2007), with Russ Crowe and Denzel Washington. It was good, but dragged a bit — and Denzel should've been more badass! He was very, er, civilised considering he's meant to be Noo Joisey's No.1 heroin pusher.

Then there's all that Doctor Who. I've recently discovered that Peter Davidson isn't as awful as Colin Baker…

Neither very horror, unless you count the hair (in both!).

Sad. :facehugger:

Blade Runner (1982): Strange that I haven't seen this movie on any TV channel ever. I finally got the Final Cut rip of the Shitbusters. I expected this to be a simple sci-fi/action movie, but it was more than that. Great movie!

Pan's Labyrinth - beautifully made, this tale which switches between reality and imagination. There were some aspects of it that could be called horror, and my gf sometimes looked away from the screen  but I would call this an adventure movie. I think this film has three very strong points going for it: the story, the effects (which are not all CGI, which is good) and the way it was shot.

Martin. Saw this in HMV a few months ago, read the synopsis and realised I knew how it ended but had no recollection of seeing it, so I must have seen it when I was a kid and pretty much forgotten about it. Finally bought it today after meaning to re-watch it for quite a while. Pretty good. Think it's the only ROmero film I've seen other than the Dead films.

Ah, Martin, I tried to watch that once. Unfortunately it was in a room full of wankers former housemates who talked all the way through. I must give it another shot…

Last night I watched Moontap (1989) starring Walter Koenig (Chekov!) and Bruce Campbell (Ash!). It was awful, but in exactly the right kind of way. The Nintendo-esque alien baddie things were great, although the levels of plotholia were extreme.

A few days ago, I think it was Monday, I watched these:

The Crawling Hand - classic B&W stupid story about the hand of an astronaut which starts killing people. The police suspect a boy who has been behaving strangely in the last couple of days.

Death Metal Zombies - a total turd, with only a handful of people who know what acting should be like. The story is pathetic, the music is fine, but a bit overdone, sometimes it seems like you're watching an ad for death metalbands. All in all it is only something for the bad movie fans. If you're not one of them, steer clear of this movie.

Freakshow (1989): Very very strange movie. There is one twist at the end - that might confuse you a bit. I think I understood it. But it's not that fantastic - definitely not a must see.

I'm ashamed to say after hearing about Death Metal Zombies, I had to find it. Not seen it yet. Scared. The name is great though.

Anyway, today I watched Brother (2000), a Japanese-American flick about Yakuza going to war with the Mafia. Takeshi Kitano is a great director, and I would recommend it to anyone. Not much horror, but violence and blood. Wahey!

I also watched the BBC's Dracula from 2006. Part of their Xmas schedule, I wasn't expecting a masterpiece, but there really was a bit too much Jane Austen for a Gothic horror. And what's with all that business about Arthur having syphilis and summoning The Big D to cure him? Bollox. But watchable bollox.

Neither the Sea nor the Sand (1972): Well, with the exception of a single
zombie this movie really shouldn't be in horror. It was way more love
story than anything else. Don't watch this one late at night unless you're trying
to get to sleep... :D

Fantastic Voyage - I loved this movie! I think it's one of the best movies of its time! For those unfamiliar with it: a crew gets miniaturized and gets inserted into someone's body in a mini submarine in order to operate him from the inside, otherwise he might die. Good story, great imagery!

Good advice, should've listened. Still, it's short and the gratuitous tit shots all come with slightly embarrassed faces, which is funny. Also, zombies who look about to see where the camera is. Brilliant. Reminded me of the sort of no-budget stuff Northern Ireland's Midnight Pictures put out (Zombie Genocide and a couple of others). The stunning lack of acting talent is a sight to behold.

The big DMZ question is: How did the director manage to get such a truly awful performance out of himself, never mind everyone else, and not notice?

I liked the shot of the girl opening the refrigerator very much: she can't get it open at first, and then starts jerking the refrigerator's door. It looks so dumb and stupid that you really start to think that the director is ignorant of the possibilty of making a "second take" of a scene.

For bad movie fans, this is a treat, it has so much badness to offer, it's almost unbelievable.

Yesterday I watched:

The Creature From The Haunted Sea - B&W nonsensical film of which the story mostly eluded me. It kept me watching because of its overall stupidity. Concerning that, it would make a nice match with Death Metal Zombies. The people in this movie are all brainless and the monster has to be seen to be believed (it looks a bit like Cookie Monster). Again: if you're a bad movie fan, go watch this! If not, stay away!

The Dark Power - luckily the guy who posted this movie, posted the badmovies.org link with it, so I could have some fun beforehand. The film brings what badmovies.org promised. There's a 30 minute period in which nothing happens and you have to enjoy the "acting qualities" of the people on screen as your only entertainment. Just before that and afterwards this cheesefest has everything bad moviefans want. This quote from badmovies.org sums it all up for me: "Rangers don't carry firearms, a whip will easily handle a cougar or bear." Again: if you're a bad movie fan, go watch this! If not, stay away!

The Dark Power, that's the one with the Zombie Injun Creatures and the alluring DVD cover isn't it. I rented that on the strength of that cover and the boobs on the back. The painting on the front bore no relation to anything and they were they only boobs in the film. :sulk:

Just watched From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money. In which Bruce Campbell gets a small role and Danny Trejo gets all affectionate towards a bat, leading to many mayhems. Great fun, though it has none of the greatness of the first movie. Still, worth a watch. Might try part 3, who knows…?

:shadey:

I finally got around to seeing Shutter, and I absolutely loved it. Finally, a horror movie that was truly scary! I don't think I've ever been so damn scared watching a horror movie. Some scenes had me actually moving back in my seat and squinting my eyes, and I loved every second of it!

The story isn't entirely original, but it's still good enough to keep your interest and makes you want to keep watching to find out what happened before. Good acting, great music, great atmosphere, real scares - excellent movie!

Seriously, that scene in the car...when he looks back...then sees her on the side of the window...then looks back again and... :o . I nearly shit myself!

Oh, and the last shot of the movie...with the reflection in the door window...brilliant!

I can't believe it took me so long to sit down and watch this. I've been missing out for so long.

Just finished watching The Reaping in HD. Not a bad flick - 7/10. Particular good bits were the red river scenes at the beginning and the locusts nearer the end. Enjoyable movie IMO.

Yeah a bit misleading. It also stars the venerable Lash La Rue known
primarily for his whip expertise from the '40s. This one really turns more
towards the comedy/slapstick in the end. Total cheese.

The Curse (1987): A very good(!) movie. Won't tell anything what it is about. Go and see it for yourself. Everybody should have seen this! Superb! :beerchug:

Touch of Satan - boring movie. The first hour is totally forgettable, because apart from two killings, nothing happens and the atmosphere is numb. The last pat has a nice flashback going on, but is by far not enough to save this flick.

Spookies - indeed a nice horrormovie with a lot of good stuff going for it. Recommended for some good fun!
