Nothing is wrong with it. It is a film that highlights the kind of film you promised not to expose this young 15 year old to.

Yeah..and then I thought about it and came to the conclusion of "Get 'em while their young".If his parents don't take the time to find out the movies he's watching let alone the websites he is visiting who am I to curb his foray into the sick and twisted world of HHAH?
Besides..Promises are made to be broken

LOL. For madness, though they're not horror, I got to go with I Stand Alone or Bad Boy Bubby. Haven't seen Mutilation Man though - gonna have to get that one now - cheers! --------------- Another one I forgot to mention earlier is Frailty. One of the best American horrors in recent years I thought. joshaube wrote: | ...but I'm really tired of 'elitests' who think old school horror is leaps and bounds above anything made today, and I admit it usual is, but TAH? Maybe I had to be around back in the 70's to get what was so amazing about it, and I'm sorry I wasn't... but from what I saw, it was shit. |
I reckon it's pretty spread out over the years (well for my personal favourites it is anyway). Last year was a very good year for horror I thought - Wolf Creek, The Descent, Haute Tension (though not really 2005). But anyway, speaking of 70's films, if you haven't seen it, you might like Suspiria. It's aged really well I reckon. Great visuals and atmosphere. A bit different to Argento's other movies (from the ones I've seen). Excellent soundtrack too.
I have to second Martin also.
And yeah I agree for comedy/horror, you need to see An American Werewolf In London (I also agree that Werewolf in Paris is crap).
If you want some real old ones, like around the 1930's, I'd recommend Freaks and Vampyr. Freaks is a movie that could not be made today, and Vampyr is great for it's real gothic look. Carnival Of Souls is another good one from the 60's - a bit B grade, but a classic. And obviously you can't go wrong with most Hitchcock movies - I love The Birds, though I know some people don't compared to his other films.
I like twisty movies too. Some other twisty horrors/thrillers (probably more thrillers) you may like - The Mothman Prophecies, Fallen, Identity, Arlington Road and The Game.

Haha, you guys seem to think I'm a pampered twelve year old. XD Rather funny. If you knew my parents, you wouldn't be saying that. My faher has this site bookmarked, he setup the port forwarding for emule, sometimes he even checks out the movies. My mother thinks I'm twisted and is rather afraid of me, just because I laughed at a joke with babies in a blender, and wrote a novella about a boy killing his mother subconciously.
I repeat, the only thing that I'm not used to is rape scenes in horror movies. Any gore, to any extreme, I don't even regard. I actually try and think how they created it, or acheived that effect. I admit I did flinch a bit while watching Tamara in the No Evil scene. Not for gruesomeness, but I'm just like that. Someone hurts something really hard, and I can't help but flinch and grab that part of my body. It's humerous.

Joshaube, let me apologize. I'm sorry. Like I said, my intention was not to flame you. Thats not what any of this is about. I respect everyones opinions no matter what. Maybe I indulge myself in forum conversation a little too much. Im not an elitist. I just LOVE the genre and filmmaking. Let me get a couple of things straight;
Chloe Moretz and her family are friends of my family, my mom works with her dad at the hospital here. You better believe I was defending TAH remake in forums and with my friends left and right.
Boy Eats Girl, again, im sorry. Im very passionate about the zombie sub-genre and I let it get the best of me. Its just that ive seen 99% of the movies and ive read tons of stories; amateur, professional, and fan-based. Ive also written my own screenplay which went through several revisions but was only partially filmed. Boy Eats Girl is just a mish mash of all the cliches that have already been beaten into the ground. If you liked the tractor scene, watch Evil Aliens. that one just came out and im sure neither are aware of each other.
As for my dvd collection, I think youll be surprised to see it. Ill have it online soon and youll find that it isnt that obscure at all. Ill probably get alot of crap for it.
Until we can compile a list of some kind so that we know what youve seen before we reccommend them, here are some more recommendations. if i havent completely alienated you, that is;
Rosemary's Baby (1968)
Zombi 2 (1979)

And to think I was gonna suggest the All Night Long series...Silly me
I've often thought about making a music video from that movie going to the Lional Ritchie song by the same name.Every time I watch it that is what I hear.

The Mothman Prophecies?
You mention the Game, but forgot Fight Club and Se7en. Those are three great dark thrillers. Empire film magazine even classifies Fight Club as a horror movie for obvious reasons. others, who imo are deeply missing the entire point of the film call it a drama.

I was tempted to say fight club when we were talking about madness flicks... but kinda thought it was outa place.. not really a "killer" movie.. but one that rules.. I can not belive it was a huge flop... somtimes I just do not understand other movie goers.

well if you lilke comedy-horror how about The Convent
along the lines of twisty movies how about Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, Jacobs Ladder, The Machinest & The Jacket more mindfuck movies but highly entertaining
oh and it wouln;t be right if i didn't reccomend an Argento flick or two so watch Suspiria, Tenebre, Deep Red and maybe Stendhal Syndrome & Opera
@Jynks, reason it prob flopped is prob cuz the twist in it makes you think!! not what the general 'hollywood movie' loving public wants from a movie. they want it all nicely wrapped up.
@dxa about teh age thing, not everywhere is as restrictive as teh uk & us!! for example Tenebre is rated 18 here but teh dutch dvd i got (entitled Shadows) is rated 12!!! also Dawn Of The dead (original) is rated 18 here but my dutch import is rated 16

Well never believe A hype. The most movies that are hyped a lot (ain't those mostly Hollywood productions?) tend to give you great expectations about the movie. Just watch 'm and say for your self if it's a good movie or not.

Only domestic, and i don't trust the american domestic market to have any reflection on anything anymore. Made HUGE profits on dvd, one of the biggest selling to date. It was rated as the best DVD (technically) for at least 2 years. At cinema, "domestic" (that is, the yanks) it made about $40 main of the $60main budget, but add in worldwide and dvd sales and its well into profit. That's the problem when they say flop, america is a weak places to judge things. The audience and revenue are both bad indicaters of a films success.
Its because the idiots in the media and its portrayal in america was that it was a drama about underground boxing. Which was such a pathetically feeble and irrelevant description of it. Marketing f*cked up bad...
Films like that never do well with american audiences, they generally need fluffy bunnys
Cost: 60$ main

The Mothman Prophecies? |
Yeah I guess maybe not a twisty movie, but sorta has little twists throughout it. I know it's not the most well liked movie too, but I liked it, and have friends who found it really scary. I really liked Pellington's Arlington Rd, and already knew about the "true" story Mothman was based on, so maybe that helped?? spudthedestroyer wrote: | You mention the Game, but forgot Fight Club and Se7en. Yeah true, good call. Definitely agree they're great movies, especially Fight Club. Thought I might be pushing the horror boundaries with the ones I said, but yeah Fight Club is a must see.
Nowhere near horror, but two of my equal favourite movies (with other movies) I guess would be twisty movies - Memento and Donnie Darko.

Fear Itself: Such a different tone from your last post, I like this one better. Thanks for the appologies and I am sorry as well. I get caught up in forum rants a lot.
I wish I could remember the films I have seen, but I lack the ability to remember until reminded by a suggestion. Here, I'll take some time and try and remember the films I have seen... might take a while. I haven't seen as much as probably 99.9% of the members here, however. (list below)
The Thing: I have been reccomended this a lot, not just on my taste, but on films I should see period. I guess I didn't really think much about it since it involved an alien, but now that might change.
House: I remeber this film from when I was young, back around 5-7. I watched it on a taped VHS, that my uncle owned. I loved it, or at least thats what I remember. It was rather creepy to me, but had some interesting gore. If i recall, wasn't it somewhat comedic?
Demons 1 & 2: A friend owns the director's cut of these films, I'll borrow them sometime.
Pumpkinhead: Coincidentally, that movie comes on SCREAM tonight. I'll definately watch it.
In the Mouth of Madness: Saw a trailer for this last night. Looks interesting and rather psycho.
Ginger Snaps: Loved it. Also liked the two other films in the series.
Wrong Turn: Hated it. Hated it. Hated it. Generic freak mutants seeking revenge and murderous rampage. Overdone, in my opinion.
---
Fight Club: Liked it.
Se7ven: Liked it, but didn't love it. People hyped it a lot before I watched it, so maybe I expected too much. Didn't help that the DVD I rented skipped at the jumpy parts.
---
The Jacket: Loved this movie, very interesting and a good story. The ending was sad in a feel-good way.
Suspiria: Recommended this SO much. Definately will check it out.

Fox are incompetant, you only have to look at the tv station to see its run by ass clowns. I mean they drop all their best shows, only to have the audience demand they put them back on.
Given the dvd sales and worldwide sales are really high, they should give him his job back.
Can't wait for survivor myself, it was put on hold after 9/11 (what with the plane hijacking and all). imo. its also a far better book.

I agree with the FOX remark. It is run by ass leeches who don't know left from right. The fact Stacked is one of it's "most acclaimed" series, speaks for everything. Reunion, Firefly, Arrested Developement... all amazing shows, cancelled. FOX complains and bitches about the fact the ratings suck comapred to other shows. They can't shcedule anything. They don't advertise. They put new low-ranked shows in the same timeslots with highly-advertised established series on other networks and expect theirs to come out on top. After FOX cancelled Reunion, and played with our minds... I'm boycotting it. Fuck them. They threw it off the network for a few months, delayed more episodes, said they were cancelling it after 13 episodes with a sped-up ending, then changed it to so they would air the original 13 eps and not give us an ending, and then it was just dropped completely.
Also, just finished Dead & Breakfast. Loved it. I noticed some homage to Evil Dead in the form of a poster hanging in one of the rooms. Loved the gore, and the lady working in the records building was damn hillarious.

Pumpinkead... ugh. I'm beginning to HATE slashers. I get bored as soon as the lillings start, because you know... oh, well, what's left? Killing, slowly killing off each other. Blah. I watched the firat hour of Pumpkinhead, loved it, reminded me strongly of Jeepers Creepers - then the first kill happened and I switched channels.

Well for those that don't know about the good news for Futurama:
http://scifi.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=2163
And fox ran Xfiles into the ground, just like they are doing with the simpsons.
They over compensate for their lack of taste by running good series into the mud.
