About that sound: chupa asked me the same thing. I replied here. Yesterday I watched: Xtro - a video nasty with aliens. Pretty boring at times, but with some good gory effects. And being the only video nastry with aliens, it was a welcome change between all those serial killer movies If you like aliens however, watch other movies, there are so many better ones.

Okay, thanks! Learned another thing today.
Just watched "The Boogeyman" (1980) and if you have watched this one or "Revenge of the Boogeyman", then you don't need to watch the other one. They're almost exactly the same movie. I was done watching this in 25 mins because of the huge overlap.

Angel Negro:
Interesting low budget slasher from Chile. A guy works in the mortuary & soon, one by one his friends end up on the slab & he gets uncomfortable. Given time off he meets an old friend who together with his dead friends were involved in forcing a girls suicide years before. Nice twist at the end. Shame about the source DVD this was ripped from as often the burned in subs were unreadable. For that reason I'll give it 5/10.

Dead Man's Shoes: solid drama/slaher with a touch of a psycho thriller. Good actors which are very hard to understand, because of their British accent. Recommended though. Thanks go to junkboy for this one.

Well it depends on how they speak. If they just spit out the words it is very difficult too. I'm kind of used to the American English though. British English sounds so funny when I hear it.

Mostly what you will hear of a British Accent in films would be a London accent or a posh accent. Scottish is reasonably common but I'd love to know what you think of the accents from... Liverpool, Manchester, Lancashire, Birmingham & Newcastle. I've recently moved to Lancs & I really struggle to understand them especially after a few beers in the pub yet thats a tame accent. Did you ever watch Trainspotting? Thats scottish & pretty hard to understand coz they talk way too fast

No I haven't watched it yet. Actually I can't tell the difference between Scottish, English, Welsh or any other British accent, because I don't know how they all sound. I just know that it is not American English when I hear it.

Please... watch trainspotting coz it is brilliant. I paid £7 18 yrs ago to see that at Londons most famous cinema in Leicester square. (Its only £5 to go the local cinema even now). LoL @ all UK accents sounding the same. I'd not really thought about it, but I guess every country has accents of their own & unless you live there youre unlikely to notice.

Trainspotting was tripped out, violent & funny... Major spoiler alert:
Spoiler: |
You got spud shitting the bed & shit going everywhere when his sheet gets taken from him, Rentron shaggin the school girl without knowing til the following morning, Begbe the psycho throwing his glass of the balcony in the pub defacing the girl below, The toilet scene where renton gets sucked down into it & the bit nobody forgets, the dead baby crawling across the ceiling.
|
Very entertaining film with the Underworld - Born Slippy Them Tune

Trainspotting is great! it's on my top 3 drug flicks for sure... requiem for a dream is next to it and the third spot I have no idea right now Shallow Grave on the other hand is another hyped Danny boyle flick I never got the chance to see, gotta seek that. Just seen: Howling II - ...your sister is a werewolf Found it quite entertaining, so many werewolves onscreen at a time that it feels like a zombie flick, people just start shooting them down randomly hehe neat. The movie is cheesy but not as bad as I expected, actually I really found it amusing... effects were cool, make-up, nice blood color (believe it or not that counts to me)... despite the fact they kept showing the same bits of transformations in different scenes sometimes :| but still, christopher lee was great... the gore that it had was decent, the nudity was aplenty (wolfwoman tits and everything). Things to look for: You gotta love those scene transitions...from side to side, top to bottom, front to back... corner to corner hehe you name it. And the line "your sister is a werewolf" is actually said two times in the movie

Well, I gave Ravenous another chance, given what was posted about it here. Maybe you guys still think that I'm missing out, but I still think this is not a brilliant film. What I like:
Spoiler: |
The parallel stories of Calhoun and Boyd. They turn out to be some sort of the same person. Some jokes. This film is praised for its humour, and on a few cases this is justified, for example in the end scene where Boyd and Calhoun/Ives are together in the beartrap and Calhoun/Ives says: "That was really sneaky." The story is quite original.
|
What I don't like:
Spoiler: |
It's not really surprising, despite being an original story. I soon felt that all people would die or have a bad ending. Some jokes. They are meant to be funny, I think, but they are not. Can't think of an example now, but some jokes re good, some are lame attempts at being humorous. It's never scary, and the conversation between Boyd and Calhoun/Ives on one of the last nights is like betwen a vampire master and a newborn vampire, who still has to learn everything. Also the morale of "Will you eat other humans because you know you will grow stronger, or will you refuse, knowing that it is wrong?" is tedious and annoying.
|
So, overall: it's an OK film, I'm less hard on it now than I used to be, but I still don't see why it should be brilliant. Please tell me what I have missed, because I wanna know.

3 today:
Girsl school screamers: Takes an hour to get going whilst building he plot of a group of convent girls who end up in a posh house cataloguing its contents ready to sell. The last 30mins were entertaining but only as your typical slasher 3/10
Harvest of fear: Another run of the mill slasher although on this one the killings seem to be mainly throat slitting. Twist at the end that you kinda already expected. Average but entertaining. 4/10
Hells Highway: A group of co-eds are travelling to LA via the devils highway & pick up a "hot hitchhiker" who claims to be the devil. After revealing she had killed their friends in the other car (yes, they are racing the drivers brother to LA) they promptly boot her out of the car but along the way they keep meeting her again & again & keep on killing her but she doesnt seem to die. Very big twist at the end but too unbelievable. The best part of this was the blair witch style scene near the end. Reasonable slasher 4/10

Troll (1986): Man was this weird. At the beginning it seamed totally ridiculous, but later on it made a "bit" of sense - I mean the story here. That singing creatures were hilarious. I don't know why the composer of such a crap is highlighted on the cover of this movie. My advise is to stay away from this if you are older than 10.

JUNK - Japanese zombie movie, I enjoyed this quite a bit... very fun, practical special effects...not exactly a gorefest, but you're in for some pretty cool headshots and your expected gut munching from time to time. The movie is not as wacky as you expect a japanese zombie movie to be... I liked the script as I tend to dig plots where the "heroes" are "villains", in this case robbers... much like From Dusk Till Dawn for example, another point I highly enjoy in my movies are the "wrong place, wrong timing" type of situation, instead of zombies taking out a town or something, the poor robbers set a facility as the place to deal with the robbed merchandise selling, they're double-crossed and at the same time the zombie action takes place, as that location was used to experiments in which obviously a scientist was trying to bring the dead back to life. Fun plot hole: This is the perfect example of the zombies multiplication, there are like... 20 or something?! dead people in body bags prepared to come back to life in the building (A green re-animator-like substance gets the job done)... but by the end they'll just keep coming and coming... What I liked: Zombies look cool, kinda reminds me of the fulci zombies... very slow moving, lacking individual personality but a cool imagery when in group... like a troop. What I didn't like: This has a "main zombie", say 28 weeks later, dead hate the living, land of the dead and so on... not exaxtly something I enjoy in a zombie flick, this girl is fun, in a so cheeys it's fun way... but I really prefer my zombies to be equaly powered and menancing by their teamplay, I'm not fond of powerful zombies, extra-smart leading zombies and stuff like that.

I watched the mist: spudthedestroyer wrote: | Watched this movie; its hella-crap. You can look at it this way, its a shit movie or its the best damn film about fiddler crabs you will ever see in your life! This film could have been really good but ultimately its not, its overly long (although i didn't 'tune' out), had some okay parts to it (religious bitch, although a tad over the top), and the ending was hilarious, however not really worth 2gb of space
Spoiler: |
The film is essentially Half-life; just infinitely shitter. Wait for a half-life movie from a competant director and this film will end up being completely and utterly owned... better yet, play Half-Life 1, 2 and Ep1+2
|
Worth a watch, but plenty of other decent films out worth watching.... if you want something new, check out the excellent The Orphanage. |

shocking gotta check that one, it was such a talked up project since the beginning... but I was always skeptical about it, because it never seemed THAT promising to me.
