Nightmare Man (2006): This is the first of the '8 films to die for' that I've seen. It's lacking too many areas to be good. The best thing I can say for it is Tiffany Shepis can deliver a one liner pretty well and she's cute.
Sweeny Todd (2007): I'll see anything Tim Burton puts out (even Big Fish) but I was a little nervous about this one. No need to fear! I loved it despite my distaste for musicals. I probably set the bar too low for musical ability but I think Johnny Depp did just fine.

Dust Devil: Terribly boring. Hard to follow, because of the strange accent and so damn slow and boring. Example: the dust devil travels to a town. Why do I have to see how he gets on the train, talks nonsense to some people, than gets off the train and walks, walks and walks in the sandy town? Summing it up: This is a unnecessarily long boring and slow utter shit.

Yes, but chances are big that all will favour FMJ. RedVeil wrote: | Slayer wrote: | Yes, I know FMJ is legendary, but fact is that it came out AFTER Boys in Company C, see what I mean? |
I noticed recently that there was a young boy named "Harry Potter" involved with magic stuff in Troll 1. The movie was published in 1986, whereas the first Harry Potter book came out in 1997. |
Yes, I know, watched Troll years ago and found out about the same thing. And to think J.K. Rowling accused some Russian author of plagiarism! She's a fraud anyhow. Yesterday I watched: Triple Cross - it took me a while to find the button on my DVD remote for changing audiostreams, so the first few minutes I watched were in Spanish. After that, I could watch this movie in a more relaxed way and I enjoyed it very much! It's an espionage story in World War II about a guy who ends up in prison after robbing several safes. When the Germans arrive, he offers them to work as a spy. They accept, but as soon as the guy is able to do so, he defects and offers the Englsih to work as a spy as well. The story is enjoyable, the acting is old school good work, with some famous names: Christopher Plummer, Yul Brynner and Romy Schneider (who looks surprisingly hot in this movie). Recommended, the link is to be found on SBiG.

Today i watched Vantage Point: Surprisingly good movie and although it had that typical of Yank (i did it for my country bs) was a well constructed day of the jackal type movie.
Highly Recommended.

Touch of Death: Very amusing film about a schizophrenic gambler who somehow manages to keep pulling rich women, scamming their money then killing them off. Typical Fulci gory murders. 8/10
Ravenous: Enjoyable film where an american outpost back in the late 1800s get lured by the wendingo (human who eats people to gain strength) to a cave in the hills who proceeds to kill all but 1 of them who escapes, returns back to the outpost & then appears to go mad when the wendingo turns up a year later at the outpost as a major in the military. Lots of killing & cannibalism ensues. 6/10

Penetration Angst - great movie with one o the weirdest stroies ever: a girl has a vagina which absorbs men who fuck/lick her. The second storyline is about Siamese twins who are very different personalities. Great weirdness all over the place, I loved it!
Mutant 2 - first hour is boring, bad in a mediocre way. The last 25 mins however are great fun! Bad in a much better way, with gore, bad acting and a stupid outcome of the story!
The Redsin Tower - first hour boring again. Last 30 mins great, althougnh I wished for EVERYONE to die, I hated all the characters so much (or I was just in such a mood, that could be the case as well)

The Hills Have Eyes 2 - this is one original sequel, except for the cut in seqiences from part 1. The story is nice, the killings etc are less grisly. Still I'd recommend it.
Frog-g-g - an hilarious monsterfrog from contaminated water haunts women to mate with them. This movie is an attempt to honour the 50s monster movies I guess. They succeed partially. Only for those who like 50s monster movies and bad movie fans.

Barracuda - boring! Avoid this, unless you really, really love fish and diving.
Demons 6 - an Argento rip-off, with an attempt to make a fuilm with one of the Mothers. It's pathetic, but it has some really good gore, and overall it is unintentionally funny.
Raging Sharks - aliens drop some crystal in the ocean and sharks protect it from being taken by humans. Riiiight. Deep Blue Sea gone even worse. Is that possible? Yes!
Mad Doctor on Blood Island - wow, a really cool bad-good movie, with some unforgettable scenes. "I won't give up the opportunity of a lifetime, just because you think I'm mad." Fantastic!

Platoon Leader - Oh, the Americans won in Vietnam after all? Or at least they had a good time? Watch this movie and find out. Only some feeble attempts at reality in this movie, the rest seems to be pure propaganda.

Watched Diary of a Serial Killer: was ok nothing much to write home about and was not really an "insight" into the thoughts behind most SK's still passed 90 mins though without a yawn.
Hillside Stranglers: Right up there with Bundy as a truely awesome SK film with great performances and stuck to the truth (rare) and is hightly recommended.

Natural Born Killers Directors Cut: Loved it, very unusual with its cartoon images & its sitcom scenes but a lot of violence & great music. 9/10

Nightmare Weekend - shit. Nothing more/less.
Hostel II - again some nice looking babes and no surprises. For mindless violence, you might like this for 25 mins. The last 25 mins.

Bad sequel! The first was great, it all made sense & was realistic. Part 2 was awful, so cliched & obviously only made for the sake of it & to make money.

Beyond The Limits - nice gore opera with two different stories, one with croiminals killing each other and one in the Middle Ages about a monk and a devil worshiper. Pretty good compared to earlier Ittenbachs. Recommended, especially if you like gore.
The Mad - funny zombiemovie. Enjoyed it from the beginning (well, OK, from 10 mins after the beginning) to the end. Recommended.
The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra - real funny ode/parody to/of the 50s scifi classics made in 2001. Original idea, worked out fine. Almost every line is memorable (the woman is weeping inside the space-ship: "Please, miss Armstrong, there are elicate instruments on board.") and it's fun to guess from which movies they have taken ideas. Recommended, unless you don't like humorous parody movies.

I really gotta see The Mad, tons of smaller zombie flicks I have to catch up to, like days of darkness, quick and undead, the mad...some not as new like zombie bloodbath, dead meat, plaga zombie... anyways, about 158 ;p Talking about zombies, watched automaton transfusion last night...well, thing is people either got carried away with the hype or totally bashed the movie for the sake of bashing... the problem is this is a really really low-budget film, it's not even like Hatchet low budget, I believe. So for what it is, it's decent... the acting is so-so , but beats 70% of other inde efforts...only the characters are the ultimate "survivors" cliche type, so there's not much you could do with them to begin with. The pace is great, the movie takes off with a zombie attack and pretty much goes from that at a steady pace. The gore is pretty good in places, again considering the budget those guys had to work with, some of the gags are inventive with two caughting more attention, one is a bit offensive and got me off guard
Spoiler: |
the youngest zombie ever?!
|
and the second is a brutal attack to the face that is pretty well done and got me cheering a bit. On the other hand although there's a nice blown off head, most of the time a shotgun blast to the head causes the zombies to spit blood upwards and pretend they drop dead an effect right from the 70's kung fu flicks... but still, this wouldn't be without flaws anyway and I prefer what this had of gore (practical) over the overuse of cgi of flicks like The Rage and Day of the Dead remake (both disappointments in terms of gore, cgi looked horrible in both cases). And plotwise... there's no plot... period. BUT, I actually liked the fact that they went for the no explanation, no cause... only consequences for the zombie rampage, you don't know how they came to be, how it began... and though the very ending was a little lame I dug the concept of an action-packed zombie flick that prefer to deliver the juicy parts only instead of coming up with an incredible theory as to how the deads came back to life. 7.5/10 - And I'd take sequels for this, it was fun and a really a nice effort... give the guys a break, it's all bloody-disgusting's and other shitty reviewer's fault, damn hype.

When The Screaming Stops - nice and gory Ossorio movie. I wonder if this version is cut, while the "Grasp of the Lorelei" version might be uncut. I liked the story, the pace was a tad slow, but it's an oldie, so I can forgive that. I actually enjoyed this better than the Blind Dead series. Recommended.
Spider Baby - weird and absurd movie about an inbred family who encounter some far family members. Of course these family members are not very welcome in their house. Stupid stuff follows. The ending (and by that I don't mean the epilogue) was quite radical, and the only thing I really liked about this film. Avoid.
The Incredible Melting Man - very gory film about an astronaut who got melting by the sun (ooohh, riiiight) and now starts killing people (sure, very logical). In the meantime he keeps melting away and grow stronger at the same time (this movie is a school example of fine logic). The gore looks good, the rest is so-so. Recommended only for bad movie lovers.

Too many to post them all with reviews, so I made it short.
I have seen:
- Undead or Alive: recommended, good funny zombieflick - Blood Beast Terror: nice atmosphere, but overall a little weak - Beware! The Blob: only for bad moviefans - Invasion of the Bee Girls: avoid. Bad movie. - The Nailgun Massacre: I had some good laughs, especially because of the weird sounds the killer makes. I guess he was talking. Some gory killings, but I was really annoyed by the background static all the time. - Zombie Wars: a no brain zombie flick. For bad moviefans only.
