Ok, I might be the only one interested in that project 'cause I kinda like Christophe Gans a lot, but I just saw this morning that the cast is now official (actually this might be old news, but imdb still doesn't have the complete cast, so I thought I'd post it up):

http://www.dvdrama.com/rw_news-11329-.php

sorry the link is in French but you get the pictures ;) Don't forget the 2nd page !...

BTW the article says that the shooting starts next Monday and that the movie is due for the 1st semester 2006. As Gans is French, iI supposed this is reliable news.

WTF? Are you kidding? How does reliable and French go in the same sentence?

Just joshing, good for morale. Seriously tho, this film is prolly just gonna be some weird mind fuck. Gonna have to smoke my magic herbs before I watch this one, heighten the experience and all that balls.

Just this one? :P

I really should play the game, I hear it's great. But then again, if the trend continues with videogame movies, it probably won't have much, if any, relevance to it anyway.

yeah but how many of these so called video game movies are faithful to the game or treated with any respect in production (by hiring a decent director, writer or staff?)

Nuff said; about 30% of them have been directed by either Uwe Boll or Paul Anderson.

Take my favourite game. imo Legend of Zelda is better than Legend on which its based (and that's a Ridley Scott film no less!); yet if that were to become a film, they'd hire Uwe Boll to direct, move it to Scotland, hire Christian Slater as Link, replace Ganon with an English monarch and then erase every trace of story and make it about selling puddings.

That means, given similar treatement, Silent Hill will suck. Based on concept art and basic premise it shouldn't, but they won't give a crap about them when they consider making it into a movie.

Doesn't look too shabby so far. Pyramid Head is looking pretty badass too.

LOL afraid I do not hold most adaptations to movie in high steed. Mind you, Uwe Bol does make cool films to watch, but only when you are stoned and need some brain jelly to look at.

well i differ from stanica and ODiN, it might not be a uwe boll movie but imo the costumes and sets kinda look like one.

And as you can see from the comments, people certainly don't agree with my skeptism.

I hope i'll be surprised, but as its stands i'm not optimistic in anyway.

The trailer looks OK, it looks quite close to the first game.

BUT it very quickly cuts so you can't really see much :(

I really liked Christophe Gans' Brotherhood of the Wolf, so will be seeing this for sure.
I liked the games too and reckon from the trailer it looks like they've got the visuals pretty much right.
Radha Mitchell is not too bad an actress either. She's going to be in two of the bigger horrors this year I reckon (or hope I should say) - Silent Hill and Rogue (by Greg 'Wolf Creek' McLean).
Roger Avary writing too. It's got potential to be a lot better than Uwe Boll IMO, but still, I guess that doesn't mean much ;).
Not getting my hopes up for a good video game movie, but still looking forward to this one anyway.

@Satanica, what can I say, I speak the truth. If I am clear headed I like a good film with a plot, when I am stoned I watch shit like Zombie 90 and any Uwe Bol film. I love em cos you can just look at them and completely not understand them, but it is no hassle cos there is fuck all plot to start with, just blood and shit.

Yeah plots are overrated, they can really ruin a good buzz.

According to my friend in Taiwan, advertising there says that the movie is based on the game, Biohazard. There is a huge billboard on the side of a building and the TV ads, too. lol
I don't have any links, this is just secondhand info.

Has anyone seen this, imdb has two extremes, some people say its the "best movie video game movie ever", and some i expect is corporate spam. There's one guy who says its the "best horror movie ever" who expect is some guy that's only ever seen Scream 2, and then there's the other extreme which is a guy that says its utterly terrible and was thought to be crappy by everyone in the screening.

just saw it friday night, it was awesome. compared to films in general and not just horror, i give it a 4/5 stars (8/10 rating). so, definitely better than average but not perfect.

i agree that it is the best video game-to-film adaptation ever. im a big fan of the series having owned and beaten all 4 games (and even the 2nd version of part 2 for the xbox), but I didnt let that tarnish my un-biased perception of experiencing the movie for what it is.

this is easily going to be one of the top horror films of the year.
