Yeah it hard to find one similar.
My Ricky dvd cover says "It's Evil Dead 2, Braindead and The Matrix, times ten, turned up to eleven!", but I guess you would have seen those. Braindead has got no kung-fu but it does have the the priest that "kicks ass for the lord" :googley:

Or there's over the top martial arts/effects ones without splatter - The Storm Riders, Avenging Fist, Volcano High etc. They're probably nothing like it, but they're cool anyway ;) - especially The Storm Riders - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165499/ (if you see it, make sure it's the 128min version not the 90min)

Yeah I agree with video-man. Versus is probably the closest I've seen.

I agree with Kamlem, the closest is probably Fist of the North Star, very entertaining (& I'd completely forgotten about it!) :)

So those kung fu movies have same comedy aspect? Cause i reallt cant stand serious ones.....

Wow, I didn't know there was a 'Hollywood' live action version of Fist of the North Star...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113074/

Has anyone seen it? How bad can it be...... :?

Also, just aquired a nice 1.37Gb version of the Anime original from bittorrent. I don't know how to add a link for something like that but if you went to a bittorrent search engine (I used Torrentspy) and type in <hokuto> it should be top of the list. It has hardcoded subs in english.

Going off to relive the experience now! Have a great weekend :beerchug:

Although it isn't as graphically violent as Story Of Ricky, I think The Buddhist Fist might be what you are looking for. It's equally silly.

Of the ones I mentioned, Volcano High is sort of comedy, but the other two arent comedy at all. The Avenging Fist I believe was based on Tekken, it even was originally titled Legend of Tekken, but it was unofficial so it was changed. And The Storm Riders is an earlier film made by the same director, and is pretty similar to Avenging Fist, but probably a better movie, and set in older times. They're all fantasy special power type martial arts - not Bruce Lee real stuff.

If you want more comedy ones (without gore/splatter), I'd recommend Kung-Fu Hustle.
Or maybe even maybe Kung Pow?? (I liked it anyway ;))

If you want weird too - there's also Zu Warriors From the Magic Mountain - (the original version - I haven't seen the remake, but I think it may have come out on dvd this week in the US).

Sorry, I think gone way too far from anything like Story of Ricky now. But I recommend them anyway.

Fist of the North Star sounds good.

I haven't seen it but others here may have - what about The Street Fighter (70's)? Is that anything like Ricky? I've heard that one is gory.

The closest thing to Riki-Oh is definitely the First of the North Star series, if you can watch the anime series, then the 1986 movie, the New Fist of the North Star was pretty good, but the older versions are definitely better and definitely stay away from the live action versions, it's terrible.

Other than that, Ichi the Killer has good over the top violence, but i think Versus might be a better fit (more martial arts). I think both of these were mentioned earlier. I personally hated Volcano High, but the same type of manga-esque fighting can be seen there.

If I remember correctly, I think "Alive" is another good movie in terms of super-fighting. It's about a death row inmate that's experimented on and becomes super-powerful... or something cliche like that. Either way, good film.

Riki-Oh was supperb. Real hyperkinetic shit goin on in that film. I've been looking for scans of the manga that inspired both films. If anybody ever finds anything, please announce it.
