Well, it wasn't horrible to sit through, but I have seen better and funnier. Lots.

Wild Zero

The Murder Party

Oh, and of course: Troll 2.

Yesterdays movies:

The Burrowers - wow, one of the best I have seen recently! Setup is like the series "Into the West", taking place en 19th century in the Dakota area. Without the burrowers it would have been a nice western, too. But the horror part is nicely done. It takes a while before you see the burrowers, which is good for the build-up. The mission of the cowboys, the language barrier between the whites and the Indians, the fight against the burrowers, it is all nicely done. I wonder why this never showed up in our theatres. Highly recommended for all horror fans!

White Fire - mindless action flick for SBiG fans. White fire is a huge diamond, and of course our heroes are gonna steal it. This film has invented something nice to make up for the death of one of the heroes: they replace her by another girl who then undergoes plastic surgery! Wow, great idea! The villains are all in a "who can give the most evil look ever" contest, and I really loved the mix between a dozen American actors (among whom is Danny Glover, yay!) and hundreds of uncredited Turkish extras. I had fun watching this, the stupid fights over nothing, the radiation of the diamond (?!?) which destroys people's skins, the flashbacks of the central hero, all was funny. Recommended if you're into bad movies.

Thursdaynight I watched three films. I was very happy with the order I watched them in:

Stagknight - I sadly must agree with most of the user comments in imdb. This is a boring, not funny, not scary "horror comedy". The horror part isn't explained, it just looks stupid. It's about a bachelor party at a paintball resort where a medieval ghostknight lives who kills everyone. Avoid this, it is a waste of time.

Phase IV - wow, this was good! More of a psychological movie than a real horror. Experiment is the desert on agressive/intelligent ants goes not the way the scientists expect it to. Some nice philosophy behind the story. The acting was good, I enjoyed this one: recommended.

Future War - hahaha, this movie made me laugh my ass off several times! It learns us that a master race of Cyborgs visited our planet in the past and took both dinosaurs and humans with them. The humans are slaves and the dinosaurs are trackers, yess! This you learn after you have already seen the incredibly fake looking dinosaurs. All else is a series of fights between cyborgs and humans or dinosaurs and humans. And then end credits. Hilarious movie, where people try to defend themselves by throwing empty boxes around, recommended for bad movie fans.

Friday night:

Espiritismo - a classic horrormovie, with ghost seances etc. The story is nice, and the movie has quite a good pace, especially when you see it in its time. Recommended, especially if you like classics.

The 1000 Years Cat - this started out as yet another weird Jap effort, but soon its weirdness won me for it. There is some nice, some funny and some exaggerated gore. This movie has the longest fightscene between a dog and a cat I have ever seen. Also, the endfight with the supergory monster is enjoyable. Recommended.

Screamers 2: The Hunting (2009): Sequel to the really nice Screamers with Peter Weller. The story fits. People on Earth receive an SOS signal from the planet Sirius-6B. It turns out the the signal was sent by the screamers who have evolved after the first movie and want to take over earth. It's not one of those usual low budget shit remakes. The CG is quite nice. Unluckily the plot has a few holes and Lance Henriksen's appearance is too short to save the movie. The ending is pretty foreseeable and a knock off of the original's ending. Ok movie, but I only recommend it to fan's of the first part.

Mr. Brooks (2007): Excellent movie. Kevin Costner plays a highly professional and smart murderer & William Hurt plays his evil side giving him hints. At a murder some guy sees Mr. Brooks and blackmails him. But he doesn't want money. He wants to be taken to the next killing. Highly recommended.

The Wraith (aka. Interceptor) (1986): Epic cult classic. Great soundtrack. In this movie everything looks designed so well. Every bad guy has a specific car and theme. The environment is nice and it is totally cheesy. This is a must see for car fans and everybody who likes action/sci-fi movies. Charlie Sheen plays a dead guy coming back to earth. He has a supreme car called the Turbo Interceptor which he uses to race and kill the gang members that once murdered him. Hilarious fun.

Did you feel the urge to go to Big McKay's afterwards? ;)

Yesterday's films:

After Midnight - anthology movie with main story about professor who teaches he psychology of fear. Students tell their horrific stories, of which the one with the telephone guy was the best imo. The girl answering his calls later became famous in CSI. The other stories have some charm, but are less scary and more hilarious. The ending was pretty stupid, but all in all it was OK. Mildly recommended.

Night Train to Terror - another anthology movie (coincidence), with god and the devil being the center characters of the main story: they discuss who can go to heaven and who will go to hell. Although quite funny, this thought doesn't get worked out very well. In the stories itself, it sometimes baffled me why those people would do the stuff they're doing. No explanation is given as of why they for example participate in some Russian roulette like games, in which several of them die. I don't know about you guys, but I'd have bailed out during the explanation of the game already. Much too risky. However, the characters in this movie all happily participate. There's also a stpry about some nazi guy surviving through the ages, and there are also some monsters. Maybe Iw as expecting too much, but I only thought some of the stuff was cool. Maybe a rewatch could help, but for now I only recommend it to anthology fans.

Not really. I don't like fast food. However if there were such sweet girls around, I would consider changing my mind. :)

Absolutely. As I pointed out this is a heavy cut of three other full length movies. It's not possible to fully understand the stories this way. However I read somewhere that they took the interesting scenes and the scenes left out are simply boring. While being boring they might have explained the background better.

I wasn't thinking about food either, when I asked the question ;)

Ator IV Quest For The Mighty Sword - Apparantly Joe D'Amato didn't want to tie his real name to this one, because he calls himself David Hills on this one. Btw: imdb states this is Ator III, not IV. I'm not sure, I'm not into the Ator movies, I only saw this one (I'm getting part 1 now, btw). And it is a cliche packed fantasy, with bad kings, big musled heroes, semi goddesses, shapeshifting evil princesses and trolls. I actually suspect the makers of Troll 2 to have watched this film. The pace could have been upped, that would have improved the movie a lot. Now there were some boring sequences with Ator running around in a castle. If you're into bad flicks, watch this one.

My Mom's A Werewolf - I love John Saxon and he was great in this one again. It takes rather long for the mother to become a werewolf, but that's OK. I liked this, it had a nice feel to it. It was also quite funny, a lot funnier than some movies which call themselves "comedy". Recommended.

Saw a "Perfect Getaway" the other night. Not great, but some of it was real good. Worth a DL when it comes out.

Rest In Pieces - for some reason I didn't feel like watching this movie, but since I had downloaded it for a reason (I forgot which reason), I gave it a try anyway. So this is yet another example of how expectations should be at an alltime low whenever you're gonna watch films, as it will make the experience better. I enjoyed this one, and I think that was mostly becaue of me not expecting anything. But: the film has its merits too, I really liked the story, although it wasn't anything original and the acting was good. Atmosphere, music, all good. I'd say go watch this one. Unless you're afraid of ghosts, of course... Recommended!

Last of the Living - zombies in NZ, it is almost a guaranteed succes or a doomed failure: down under they can't seem to make mediocre films, only very good or very bad ones. This one is good. At least, I liked it. It's about some guys who are in the middle of a zombie-outbreak, yet they just stay in and try to survive. They only go out when they run out of food. Well, the story is very unoriginal, but I thought it got worked out pretty well. The only drawback is the zombie make-up, but since DotD every zombie filmmaker has an excuse. Recommended.

Beastly Boyz - wow, this was so bad even I couldn't enjoy it, I soent the most time pressing the ffwd button, through which I could follow the storyline quite OK. It goes like this: boy sees vision of sister getting beaten and then the faces of other boys. Then boy sits by some candles, and writes a name. Then his evil double goes kill him. Then the boy at the candles writes a second name, and the same happens. As there are 6 boys in total, this repeats itself quite often. And it never, never gets interesting. The endscene is hilarious, when the boy at the candles is united with the evil double and he lays down at the grave of his sister, jut to disappear, saying: "we shared everything, even death". Ridiculous. Why did I spoil the entire movie for you now? Just so you don't have to watch it. It is a waste of time.

Oversexed Rugsucker from Mars - started out with clay doll aliens, so I was afraid I might watch an entire clay doll movie, but I was releaved soon, with the entrance of the bum who later falls in love with a vacuum cleaner. The vacuumcleaner itself goes on a raping rampage. That's it. It tries to be funny which only succeeds sometimes, and only the absurdity of the story saves this one for bad moviefans. Oh, btw: the titlescreen said Rugsucker, but if you want to search for it, you will only find RugsuckerS. Just so you know.

Richard Kern Hardcore Collection Cd2 - part 1 I watched a while ago and I remember short and longer stories with a lot of porn and some cruel violence. I liked this one better, altough it is roughly the same. Exceptions are two stories, Stray Dogs and I Hate You Now, and those were very interesting. If you're gonna watch this, try to see it more as visual art than as movies. I like the music, too. Recommended, but keep in mind this is not everyday stuff.

Razor Blade Smile- heh, this one was quite funny. British vampiremovie with a quite tasty woman in nice outfits, acting as a hitman because she would be bored to hell otherwise. I won't spoil this one, but it has a nice ending, which came as a bit of a surprise to me. Some funny stuff, enjoyable overall, not in the least because of Eileen Daly. Recommended.

Creature with the Atom Brain - classic red scare 50s scifi movie, this time with a mobster who was exiled from the US but is back now with a German scientist. Together they make atomic zombies who will act out their orders, so the mobster can kill the people who framed him into his exile. Nice story, but all in all a bit tame: too few sfx. Mildly recommended, as it is not bad, but you might find something better to watch too.

Mega Shark Vs Giant Octopus - well of course with a title like this, your movie will never be taken seriously. Which is good, because it does have the megashark, the giant octopus and Lorenzo Lamas. It also has loads of CGI, and some of it is painfully bad. I mean really painful, it was unwatchable. If you're gonna watch this movie, look away at the planescene, just to retun in time to see the megashark eating the plane out of the sky. Woith which we come to the strongpoint of this movie: it is so absurd and hilarious, that I laughed many times. Therefore this movie deserves a recommendation for bad moviefans. There are other stupid things, but go see them for yourself: just remember to close your eyes when the plane comes.

Sadomania - ahh, old Jess Franco stuff! I have been missing it a bit, so this was a relief to watch. Classic setup: girl gets in prison for no reason, torture and prostitution are regular, boyfriend comes to save girl, all prisoners escape and get revenge on warden and governor. You see, in the end almost all Franco movies are the same, but I really like their atmosphere, their cheesy music etc. If you like Franco, watch this one.

Queen of Outer Space - a real experience, this awfully bad movie with Zsa Zsa Gabor trying to speak English and a crew from earth who accidentally land on Venus, where, you guessed it, only women live. The queen itself is some sort of dictator and the earth men plot together with some resistance women to overthrow her. A really cool, very fake-looking spider attacks makes up for the sfx. Recommended for bad moviefans.

Chopping Mall - nice 80s horror about robots who patrol the mall at night. They turn out not to be very trustworthy. I'll try not to spoil anything, but it comes to this: 3 boys and 3 girls are gonna party in the mall one evening, but then they meet the robots. This leads to an exciting ride through the mall with some cool fights and everything. I enjoyed this one very much, recommended for everyone!

Mr. Ice Cream Man - watched this while eating dinner. It was kind of boring. I admit, it had some old school feel over it, but that's it. The story is very superficial, the Ice Cream Man is not very scary, you don't get to see any gore, the one twist that could make it interesting is very predictable. OK for dinnertime, not for prime time.

The Last Resort - yes, it sucked. The cover made me watch this, and the action part was a bit OK, but the horror part, where something supernatural comes in, was stupid. We are led to believe that in a building something evil is going on, but it doesn't become clear at any moment what it actually is. So this was quite forgettable.

Angel of Death - I liked Zoe Bell in Death Proof, so I sat down to enjoy the ride on this one. The start is great, after that it winds down. It becomes a cliché action flick with lots of fighting between mobsters and other gangsters. However, I think this might be one of those movies we consider to be a classic 15 years from now. Likeable, but if action is not your thing, skip it.

Train - well, this was a disappointment. Actually, it is enough when I say this is Hostel on wheels. The storyline is somewhat the same, the motives, the surroundigns, etc, everything is taken from Hostel. Don't watch this.

Chasing Sleep (2000): A serious contestant for the most boring movie ever made. A teacher is looking for his missing wife. With a predictable twist at the end this movie has nothing to offer. It is done in the style of Jacob's Ladder but it doesn't compare to it. While Jacob's Ladder has nice shocking moments and an interesting and likable main character, this one has an all the time tired looking and f*cked up Jeff Daniels. No suspense, no action, no horror, nothing. Avoid.

The Convent (2000): Ok, movie with some nice jokes, but nothing really special imho. It pretty much reminded me on Night Of The Demons. Kids goto an abandoned building and accidentally help to awaken some nasty demons. I recommend this to demon fans and fans of the Night Of The Demons series.
