Is this actually working? I mean, I'm not against signing that petition, but is it useful, as in: is Anchor Bay actually gonna read what all those people wrote there and then get persuaded? I'm quite sceptical in this kind of thing.

That would be incredible, but Grindhouse did extremely poorly at the box office so we're lucky to have anything in a similar vein, let alone a full-length movie out of a trailer from that flop, and I don't think Anchor Bay or Starz are theatrical distributors :(

According to people I know who've seen Hatchet, it is FAR from original and borrows heavily from the 'old-school american horror' it is claiming to be.

OK, fair enough, but what about my question? Do you think signing will be useful? Or is it only useful to get the feeling that you have done "everything in your power" to get that movie a cinema release?

I was really looking forward to checking out Grindhouse, but word has it that in Aus it will be released as the singular movies. So, I'm guessing that throws the 'Grindhouse' nature of it out the window.. Anyone know any more on this? Would be great to see it as the whole package - and can't understand why it flopped unless they were charging extra for tickets or some shit.

exactly, the film is anything but original. so called plot is just one slasher cliche after another. it certainly has this '80's feeling to it, but that's the point against originality.

this said, have to admit i didn't like it that much and don't understand all the fuzz about it

The hype machine is obviously working. ;)

Where is the connection to Grindhouse BTW?

nope, but who cares about original slasher?

I only care if it's old fashion, no CGI gore, and if extremely bloody and gory...

If you want to watch movie with good and original story, watch Phantasm, The Brood, Videodrome or The Beyond :beerchug:

would it be this 'back to tha old skool' attempt? especially given that both flicks kinda failed. Grindhouse - at the box office and Hatchet - in my eyes

it's funny - Grindhouse was made on budget that original creators of any grindhouse movie couldn't even have dreamed of and intended for a wide release.

with Hatchet there is main problem - it goes back to the 80, alright. but its sources aren't very worthy to derive from. i mean - very few slashers were really interesting, not mentioning originality, good acting and stuff. and Hatchet as a reference point seems to has taken the worst in the subgenre - like umpteenth sequel of Friday, Sleepaway Camp and crap alike.

but probably that's only me - i just can't watch slashers anymore. i don't get excited by another rubber fx made for a cost of 6-pack

That's all well and good, but if the makers of Hatchet were being honest about their movie, the tagline would be:

It's not a remake. It's not a sequel. And it's not based on a Japanese one. It is, however, based on several sub-par 80's slasher movies that were lacking in originality even back then.

I don't have a problem with the movie, hell I'd probably watch and enjoy iy myself. What I do have a problem with is the endless hyping by the filmmakers and fanboys that it is "the most original film in a long time".

Whatever the answer to my question will be (nobody seems to notice that I ever asked one :D), I'm not gonna sign the petition, as it seems useless to me now.

Put it this way Slayer, if online petitions made any difference they'd be banned. ;)

Hehe, but if you'd follow that logic, SMS voting on, let's say the Eurovision songfestival, should've been banned since Lordi won the contest :D

I mean, which European hobo loved to see a monstrous metalband get away with the prize? Still, SMS voting is there.

Ah right. Not really fake then, seeing as it's a full movie.
