This movie actually lives up to the hype of the first.

Definately better than "Bride..."

Discuss.

There's been sperradic chatting about Beyond accross the board. Probably a nice idea to put it in one thread.

Personally, I think it was miles better than Bride. Saw it at the cinema and was pleasantly surprised when it turned out that it was actually good :D

Bride was shite, Beyond was good fun, but not as good as the first (obviously!) though!

Ditto. Although I did like Doctor Carl Hill being the head with bat wings, that was pretty funny. He was a good character!!

Trips me out that so many people don't like Bride.Personally,I still like Bride better than the last one,Although Bride has a ridiculous storyline and equally ridiculous plot involving Hills decapitated head made into a bat it is those things that actually make that movie fun for me.In Beyond they traded the bathead for a penis..maybe if they do a 4th one they will give the penis wings too and we can all marvel in wonder at the flying dickhead. It would give a whole new meaning to the term "Who gives a flying Fuck".The original will always rule and the others are just typical sequel fodder..but good fodder none the less...definately there are far worse series' out there.

Acting was horrible at times, from most actors besides Coombs. Story was a little lame... But hey, it's a sequel! Whith that taken into consideration, I was surprised at how good it was.

Well the bad acting, which isn't that bad to be fair, is forgiven because it normally takes place in amongst the madness :)

It's not like a film with keanu Reaves where it relies solely on his presence for long scenes *cough* matrix *cough*

I don't seem to know Keenue's presence..I am to busy try find Anne Moss's tits. By the way...is it just me or does she look a bit more hagard in reloaded..Not seen #3 yet...might go this weekend.
I understand what you are saying though...He is sort of an oddity with me...I really don't like the guy but I do like alot of his movies.

Well i think it was DV who called keanu 'woody' at first, and I thought that was the perfect description of him. Then I saw that episode of family guy with him in

Don't get me started on matrix though, the first one was okay, the second was the pits, I'll direct you to these topics:

Plus I've made a 'few' other comments about those films around the internet

Hehe...that is funny
That zak guy has obviously not sat through Speed or worse yet My own Private Idaho  .I really don't see dark City as much of an influence though..maybe in the dark imagry it brings to the table and that is it.When I watch Dark City I think of City of Lost Children or 12 monkeys.Keefer does have some bad asthmatic german drawl in Dark City that is for sure. You should see him as a imputent gambling speed freak in Last Days of Franky the Fly,or even worse than that one has him playing a pedophile rapist in Eye for an Eye.He seems to have found his element in 24 which to me is one of the best shows on network TV as a heroin abusing psychotic CTU agent.
Bet you Keenue won't last as long as Keefer does..and with the substandard box office sales of the 3rd matrix his star is falling faster than jason vorhees did into the lake at the end of Jason X.
The one movie I did find him to be a good part was in Devils' Advocate playing a self serving egomaniacal lawyer, quite frankly he plays himself rather well in that movie. So not much acting there, just is himself.

Keifer is shit, yes, I did mention that in those threads I linked to. He sounds like the crippled black kid from malcolm in the middle, but at least he's more enjoyable to watch than keanu, but both have a hit below the belt in the acting department  The problem with the matrix is that mr Reeves is the central character... i think a 'd'oh' is in order :(

The storyline is very similar. Both films have very similar, near identical storylines , only Dark City's is better and is pulled off much more memorably (being 'first' to do it is also a big plus infront of it's name). A few fights to wow the thickos and it would have pulverised Matrix

The sets are identical, Matrix reused the sets from Dark city.
The bit with Trinity jumping roof tops? That's the bit from Dark City where the rooftops are changing and the hero is being persued across the city scape whilst the rooftops are changing. This is almost identical, the only difference is, it's Trinity/agents bending the environment as they are running across the rooftops, whereas in Dark City the rooftops are changing, ie. jumps are becoming bigger, as they are running across.

That's the first scene in the matrix (!!), the rest shadows dark city almost exactly.

I think it's a blatant rip off personally, there's no hiding it. Then upon seeing this link:
<a href"http://translate.google.com/translate?sourceid=navclient&hl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fgaleon%2Ehispavista%2Ecom%2Fcinerama%2Factu2%2Fmatrixdarkcity%2Ehtm">Screenshots</a>
It became even more obvious in my mind.

Stopping bullets?
Image
Rooftop scenes (the same sets)

Some of the comparisons are rediculous, but personally I think it's a blatant rip off, and what with them almost admitting matrix was a ripoff of a series of comic books, and bullet time being lifted (albeit vastly improved) from Mr Woo. I failed to see how it was even original. Hell the story is the same as Thirteenth Floor. What with seeing all of these films years before matrix you can't help but fail to be unimpressed, and bemused to how much attention a mediocre film like the matrix got. Was matrix out in the same year as Blair Witch too? Talk about stupid audiences

I bought the Blair Witch movie at my local video store in the "shit bin" the other day for $1. I have yet to watch it. Maybe I will when I'm bored.

As the most Brian Yuzna films this one worked well for me, too. Where?s the "bad acting" in this movie? Or, where is the good acting in the original? Don?t tell me the actors in Stuart Gordons first part did any better.
The first part is the best - affirmative. But "Bride" and "Beyond" are worthy sequels with a lot of good ideas.

Some more offtopicness

I know I probably already mentioned this, but I just have to do it again: Matrix borrowed a lot from Ghost in the Shell.
