Okay, so we are talking all inclusive dark thrillers, to ultra splatter to dark drama films... what are the ten best spanish horror films?

Spanish language will do (ie. mexicana).

My experience is very limited, so i can name ten but that's pretty much the ten I've seen :(

Waaah, this movie sucks. I hate it. It's not a horror movie imho either.
It's just a brutal army themed fantasy flick with a weak story.

Sounds like a winner to me. We don't get very many of combinations of those everyday.
Looks like another flick to add to the queue...

I enjoyed it, was good to see how they combined the 'fantasy and real world' IMO

Enjoyed : Crimen ferpecto, a decent black comedy
Loved : El día de la bestia

Enjoyed Jaume Balagueró's Darkness and Los sin nombre too :)

As for Pan's Labyrinth, I enjoyed that as well Spud (as I think most did)!

erm, and if a Spanish girl was to be watching the movie (so sleaze/gore/violence is out of the question), and she's seen Pan's Labyrinth and The Orphanage?

In that case, go with Los Sin Nombre or Darkness.

Truba, I like most of your list. I would switch out Fragiles for Darkness, La Cabina for Tombs of the Blind Dead and I haven't seen Residencia (anyone want to link a rip?), so I would put in either To Let or The Baby's Room (probably To Let).

Yeah "The Orphanage" is a good one. One that suits similar taste I believe is "El Espinazo del diablo" or The Devil's Backbone, Truba mentioned this one earlier. I have not seen it but I hear that it is great and I have been planning on watching it for a while now. It definitely would probably be up your alley if the lady enjoyed "The Orphanage" or "Pan's Labyrinth" then maybe give this one a shot. It is classic Guillermo del Toro pre-"Pan's Labyrinth" but post-"Mimic".

Check it out at Imdb:

Actually I'd like to see pics first, but you can also go for Muñecos Infernales (classic Mexican flick from the 60s) or La Horripilante Bestia Humana (same - aka Night of the Bloody Apes). When you're watching the latter, you can throw in La Maldición de la Bestia, which is also a video nasty. It is rather bad, so you have to warn her it's gonna be an SBiG experience.

Another Spanish VN is La Semana del Asesino aka Cannibal Man, but I guess that one is too shocking for a girl you don't know yet.

Tesis is probably the best Spanish thriller I have seen. Good luck, and I still want pictures.
