Am watching the original cut of "blade runner" right now
And wondered...

Seemed to faintly recall that a horror fan isn't always a SF fan....
It frequently isn't...
I am though...And to those who also are I ask : what's your fav "style" and flick ? It may be that you like a style but a properly executed movie is just lacking ...

So what makes you tick ?

Star wars or star trek ?
A.I or Blade runner ?
Matrix or ghost in the shell ?
E.T or Aliens ?

Please do name a few...

I hate the new star wars movies.
They just don?t have any buyable characters and their stories suck too.
But the old Star Wars flicks are ingenious.

From Star Trek i like most the Next Generation Series and films. Picard is a pretty cool character and Data rocks also.

But there are just so many great SF-movies.
The SF-flicks i like most are the ones who have some horror content in it, like Alien or Event Horizon for example.

To name my personal SF-favorite:

STARSHIP TROOPERS

Speaking as Sci-fi mod at fileheaven and filenexus, I can confirm star trek is crap. The whole 'moral' storylines are very sickening to a lot of people, although it has a huge fanbase.

Anyways:

Star wars or star trek ? --> Star Wars by so far warp 9.99 isn't going to stop voyager from being utter shit
A.I or Blade runner ? --> Blade Runner. A lot of AI was pure tosh.
Matrix or ghost in the shell ? --> lol I still haven't seen ghost in the shell
E.T or Aliens ? --> Alien > Aliens > Alien 3 > ET > Alien sucky-suckiton-resurrection
Star Trek or Farscape --> FARSCAPE!
Star Trek TOS or Star Trek TNG --> TNG
TNG or DS9 --> DS9
DS9 or Voyager --> DS9

A comment on the new star wars, they aren't that bad, they obviously aren't nearly as good but they are still children's films but much cheesier and poorer acting/story and context

SW or TESB or PM or AotK or RotJ --> TESB!

I like that too. Exploring space, time, darkness, unknown... also technologies like AI, androids, robots, etc. and what is going to happen when...

The best movies (in no particular order):

Alien - all, but latest two only becouse of Alien and Weaver
2001: A Space Odyssey
Blade Runner
Ghost in the shell
Solaris - both (and the book is just great)
... (some forgot probably)

and of course Dark Star :D

@ carloss  how could I forgot to mention 2001 ?

Interesting question I'd like to add then :

2001 0r 2010 ? For the latter has a faint spot in my heart

For me star wars has always been more of an action sci-fi affair, and as such I never got into it in a big way, now trek is a different matter. I like the future can be better thing, sure the moral shit could be a bit overbearing sometimes, but maybe that is why I was drawn so much to DS9, I loved the whole war arc, and I especially liked Sisko, in particular the fact that I always got the impression he would stoop pretty fuckin low if he thought he could accomplish something usefull, ie when he was pretty much responsible for the death of that ROmulan dude in season 7, I think, that brought the Romulans into the war on the side of the Federation.

Oooh fuck, best stop now as I will make ppl think I am a nerd

eh, i didnt like ghost in a shell. unless there is a different version the the animated one i saw a few years ago.

i dont even acknowledge the existence of the new star wars:the dawson's creek experience, baring this sentence.

favorite sci-fi film would be carpenter's 'the thing', saw it at the theatre as a little guy.i guess it leans more towards horror then sci-fi most would say, but screw 'em. event horizon is good, anyone saying otherwise is a damn liar or a pod person.

prefer farscape to star trek. i just started watching farscape when it was at the end of season 3 on tv, but the episodes that got me hooked were the ;liars guns and money; 3part. hehe, startrek never robbed the spacebank.
voyager was my favorite star trek series, that new 'enterprise' is horrendously bad iddy bad crap. i quit watching after the first episode. some of the next generation episodes were nice, the more horrorish ones, schizms, remember me,

a nerd?
jeez, hanging out on a internet forum, talking about startrek, and on a friday night?
i cant see how any of these things could possibly lead anyone to the conclusion of nerdhood.

on the other hand...
hehe,
'the future can be a better thing'......
that goes against everything i stand for. the future is bleak, and we're going to keep it that way thanks to mandatory subdermal rfid chipping, and all the other paranoid schizophrenics wet dream's of the past 20 years that are rather coming about, rather non subtle like as we enter the 'protection' from 'terrorist activities' thru the constant survielance of everyone at all times(for our own good) with the appropriate marketing departments and the utmost importance of Intellectual Property use debited from our bank account, finaly we can live in the dream of a pay per,,,,,,,,,,,

errr, and i go on for quite a while about this, so go fix yourself a snack. i think im just going to go outside and pick some flowers or something, maybe thing about boobs.

I, on the other hand, like Alien's (first) vision - it's just the same only in future. Of course many things will change, your home will look different but... we're only humans

Alien(s) I - IV . Love them all, and they are just about only sci-fi that I really like.. if Predator's aren't counted as sci-fi.

Oh, yeah I loved the Predators

So mine are Starship Troopers
Predator 1/2

But I think from Spuds poll on http://www.dead-donkey.com Alien is a 50/50 as to being Sc-fi or horror
