if i was zapped into a survival horror world i would want it to be resident evil, because its simply the most exciting and realistic (not meaning zombies i mean the fact theyre the side effects of a biological research conglomerate) plus its got sexy Claire Redfield in and virtual or not shes a fox lol (dont forget jill valentine with her pornstar sounding name and rebecca chambers lol) after all if your gonna be forced to live in teh world may aswell get a peice of the local talent :P

Res evil, that shit looks like fun. Also, tis the only one of the games I ever really played, i aint that big on games, usually find them too limiting after a short while. The AI pisses me off, it will either be too fast, cheat or completely predictable. AI that does not do the first 2 will eventually become predictable, and then I become bored. I seem to have a nack for spotting paterns, one of my special Mensa skills I guess. :matrix:

Resident Evil: Remake by so far the rest of the franchise and competition are just a small dot on the horizon!
Beautiful game with vastily improved gameplay. However, it looks like you mean franchise, I think Resident Evil is of course the only choice.

Alone in the Dark invented the surival horror malarky, but only the third one was good. Resident Evil (first) redefined and made the genre what it is. Most people were introduced to it by this game.

Storywise, Resident Evil 1 is the best, and the most memorable. Whilst the others up the body count and the like, it was never the same, nor as good. I choose the remake as my favourite, because the story is the same (with a lot of added stuff), the zombies are better, the defence mechanism makes the whole thing more realistic... it's the biz.

Silent Hill was great in art terms, but beyond that, I found the game inferior, which is a shame because it had great potential. Dino Crisis was just resident evil, but shit story. Alone in the dark, as said invented the genre, and without it there would be no resident evil, and likewise Dino Crisis, Silent Hill or Devil May Cry, but it isn't the best franchise by far. Devil May Cry was nice, but saying anything more is an overstatement.

Resident Evil 4 (see the other thread) may be an evolving game for the franchise. There's no loading (no door loading scenes, and due to the GCN disk cache, no level loading as such), there's no fixed camera, there's no slow d-pad or basic analogy control, this is full 3d. The zombies are smarter, run faster, die harder. The bosses are huge. But will it change the formula too much? I can't tell, but it looks the latest is the greatest at this stage.

Resident Evil remake is what its up against in my book.

Spud you really do love that remake dont you, i guess what maybe causes me to love resident evil 2 the best is by the time i got round to buying a playstation resident evil 2 had just been released, so i had only played resident evil 1 in small parts on mates ps's so i ended up playing re2 properly before playing re1 properly, i do like the sense of claustrophobia that re1 gives that your trapped in a mansion with a host of undead, but also re2 doesnt so much have the claustrophobia but in my opinion it has a more romero feel to it in the way that the virus has spread to an entire city and its Leon and Claire against a mass onslaught of zombies

resident evil 3 really didnt have quite the same effect as re2 because even though re3 was supposed to be set at the beginning of the outbreak as jill is leaving raccoon city so why is she the only human to be seen (besides the Carlos and his team??) also concidering how many zombies were seen in the intro it seemed as though there were areas where you were running around without hide nor hair of seeing anything undead, plus how come in re3 all the doors arent boarded up, i would guess maybe the other survivors in the police station and what not boarded them up to save them from the zombies ... except where are these so called survivors? bah

also even though re3 came out first and had the evade feature why was it removed for code veronica??.....

anyway im straying from teh subject and entering yet another crazy rant lol....

i really wasnt imppressed with silent hill, it had potential and a few genuine scary moments let down by bad graphics and a bad storyline that made about as much sense as an episode of pokemon

i liked dino crisis 2 more then 1 as the storyline was better (if a little confusing at times)

ps: concidering all the people whove posted equals the amount of posts and you all say resident evil im curious who voted for silent hill lol

maxpayne2409, its nothing like that  It's just a better game in my view.
number two was nice and all, but it brought nothing new so playing it it just wasn't as good.

Regardless the remake is technicaly (gameplay) and artisticly heaps better that any other in the franchise (1 through dead aim)

well artistically its bound to be better as the gfx werent around, i tell you what, ill try and persuade someone to lend me a gamecube jsut so i can play the remake, now if only people who own gamecubes would admit to having bought them :P although i did play code veronica on the dreamcast and then later code veronica X on the ps2 and i have to say i much prefered the ps2 version, the dreamcast gfx werent as crisp and the controls.... werent great

I was talking about Resident Evil 1  And it was out several years before number 2 so its not a graphics thing ;) It's much better than Resident Evil 2 in my opinion, was more striking and a better adventure game. It was a direct reply to what you said about Resident Evil 2 vs Resident Evil 1. Resident Evil's art work and setting is better than the seconds, its not about graphics or anything like that. I really don't care much about them past setting atmosphere. The game wasn't improved enough in the second for it to stand out anywhere near as much as the first, its a more enjoyable play. The only thing about the second one that really stood out is that bit where the zombies jump through the door when your half-way through opening it and a few extra freaks, and of course the begining of it. :)

Only the second paragraph is talking about the remake, which afterall is a remake of the best in the series (and thusly is easily the best because it takes the most striking in the series with the best storyline, and slaps a new graphics and control engine and adds the defensive system which redically improves the gameplay). I think its a bit wrong calling it a remake, it is very different at the same time, i guess its tagline "Rebirth" is better.

If you are a RE fan, and it seems you are by your sig, you need to play RE:Rebirth to gain any respect. It's like being a star wars fan without seeing empire strikes back in my view

I only liked the second more cos I played it first, when I played number 1 it just seemed tame to me.

damn newbies

Resident Evil 2 was like a hollywood remake to me. More bodies, less fun :(

Still it's the 3rd best after Rebirth and 1. BTW, whos actually played Resident Evil 0? I've only played it for like a minute, so i don't really have much of an opinion on it.

ive never played re0 either want to tho i will admit it looks good and sounds good and im always one for a good prequel.

lol im not saying this jsut for the sake of it but i honestly thought empire strikes back was the worst of the original trilogy, like the later seasons of miami vice and airwolf it took on a darker tone that didnt suit it for what it originally was, although i would still watch ti 1000000000000 times before any of the new ones.

ps - ed2k: (Ps2-Dvd-Jap)Resident.Evil.Outbreak.(by.Homicidal's.Shades).rar  [3.07 Gb] [Stats]

for all you people who have a chipped ps2 and a dvd writer

its online only isn't it? Surely they have cd keys or some such junk?

As for the Empire Strikes Back comment :-o I can't believe you just said that about the best film ever made. imo, its a coin toss between the other two. I was born after all 3 game out so i'm not tainted by seeing the first one when it was 'groundbreaking'. But I can see why its regarded by many as the best trilogy ever, but Empire stands out head and shoulders above the rest. This isn't a star wars discussion, and the comment was more like "its like seeing star wars and not finding out Darth Vader is luke skywalker's father" rather than "not having seen the best", it just so happens that Empire is the best too

Anyone having a problem with the original ressie will have a problem with me !!! *waves Fist*

It's the game (along with tekken 2) that pulled me out a 18(!) month sabbatical from videogames.....

Silent hill is overrated Poo.....Though saw part3 lying in bargin bins lately.....probably give it a 2nd 2nd chance......

As far as atmosphere though...there was this comic like click adventure in the 486Dx2 era.....a Haunted wild west ghost town ...it's few inhabitants real creepy....had a demo of it ....never bought it ..Forgot the name.... REAL atmospheric.....wiped the floor with AITD....(mo it wasn't AITD 3 ...that came YEARS after it)
STUPID ME....

lol im only 21 spud i was born in 1982 so after orig and empire and would only be 1 when return was out, i didnt see any of them until the recent special editions, but i have since seen all the originals aswell and i jsut didnt find empire strikes back very appealing lol, resident evil outbreak is online and single layer with 3 bots taking control of the other 3 missing human players, from what i hear it has a very strong single player, but to be honest i dont care about a story in multiplayer i just wanna blow my friends zombified heads off with a few select teammates whove earned the right to be on teh alive team hehe, i do agree on silent hill though, its pretty crap, i played silent hill 1 and completed it as i had nothing better to do at the time but i was bored all teh way through, then silent hill 2 was jsut worse, so ive not bothered playing silent hill 3 but beware because silent hill 4 is out soon lol
