It is a very interesting development all this Half Life 2 business!!!
One for the history books!
It'll be out when it's out.
Like most games you can never really predict the release date untill it hits the shelves!
I learned that from the Evil Dead game. They just kept putting the date back and back.
It was ridiculous!!!

ppssstt... what the f*ck use is a "free" game voucher to anyone who uses a site like this?
I'll have downloaded it before it even hits the stores anyway, there's no point in using a voucher to redeem a single player version of the game regardless of release date I think I gave mine to my little brother anyway
btw. have you noticed that little ditty is only news on that one site. Every announced delay has made it onto every pc site round the net. Add into the mix the cryptic nature of the comment, I'd take it with a huge dose of salt I'd hazard a bet that his actual expected release date of late summer is still pretty accurate, take a look at what he says:
Quote: | We've already spent millions into this project, and we're willing to spend as much as we need to make this the best first person experience ever. If that means delaying the game to 2005, we'll do it without any hesitation. If it means sinking another $20 million into the project, we can do it. Rest assured, if we delay the game, it'll be only to blow your socks off even more when it finally releases. |
Add into the mix the paragraph seems so out of context its almost incoherant as to what is point is. I believe its pretty obvious he is justifying the delay from last year to summer
I suspect this may be a case of sloppy journalism, of course if it hits some of the decent gaming sites then I'd take it more seriously.... and that would suck hugely because the game looks and plays great.

that said a delay is always possible, its slipped a few times and I wouldn't be surpised if it did jump again.
However, I believe that article isn't very accurate here.
Either way, it will no doubt beat Duke Nuke 'Em Forever to the shops

indeed it is, looked shit hot last time I saw it. The last of the major delays was a total rework and a switch to a different engine (to unreal?). I wouldn't be surprised if they have switched to the havoc physics engine.

They'd be crazy to let that franchise die, Duke3d is one of the very best pc games period.

Can't much blame them there..although the more I read the more I realised that they did have sort of that kiss my ass attitude about the whole thing...At least they aren't setting dates and doing the continuel rollback for its release. No co-op from what I was reading either...not a big thing..but that was a cool feature about the game.

I did have a sweet 8 min video clip of duke4 from E3 way back. Then it looked great, but I can't believe the project has totally been abandoned.
People have lost interest because of the "When its ready attitude" I guess

Who's your daddy?
http://www.megagames.com/news/html/pc/h ... 2005.shtml
Quote: | Half-Life 2 in 2005? Monday April 19, 2004 Valve's Gabe Newell seems bent on creating as much confusion as possible regarding Half-Life 2s release date. In a recent interview to Polygon magazine, Mr. Newell suggested that the company was determined to do what it takes to ensure H-L 2 is the ultimate first person experience when it's released and he included the possibility of delaying the game until 2005 if that would help its development.
When looking at the interview however, it seems that the comments were made in the context of a hypothetical extreme, in order to stress Valve's commitment to the title rather than as a realistic prospect for the much troubled sequel. It is however unfortunate that hypothetical extremes now seem plausible when considering the downward development spiral that Half-Life 2 has been in.
Here is the full, relevant, quote so that you can make your own minds up as to what exactly Mr. Newell may have meant:
We've already spent millions into this project, and we're willing to spend as much as we need to make this the best first-person experience ever. If that means delaying the game to 2005, we'll do it without any hesitation.
If it means sinking another USD 20 million into the project, we can do it. Rest assured, if we delay the game, it'll be only to blow your socks off even more when it finally releases. |
Much better journalism methinks.

Valve better hope that it sells well otherwise they will end up taking a bath.I have seen the most promising franchises,as I am sure you have,go straight into the toilet. That open checkbook policy is pretty risky in the video game industry, especially these days.

they've already made shit loads on it from ATI If it matches the feel of the leaked beta it looks like a winner.
I'm just concerned about the "available on Xbox" thats sneaking up around the place... that normally means a total f*ckup of what it could and should have been.

I have no doubt that this HL will be great, the porting is a mistake but you are gonna have console diehards crying for it so you know they are going to give it to them...just no way possible it will match up to the PC version...I can't even see it coming close from the screens I have seen of the game.

game companies makes games on the consols becouse they are getting more money and becouse its harder to copy and its easyer to make games on them. the consols have one set of hardware pc's have alot of diffrent hardware.. so the screaming consols freaks dont have to scream to get what they want.... thats just the fact... and when you know that the xbox have a gf2 card in it you know hl2 will look crap, the ps2 gfx allready suck monkey balls big time... all the so called consols now days start to show the bad gfx in them, i guess there is soon coming a new round of new high priced consols again without a hardisk this time...

I just wish console ports weren't as popular or produced lots of money, which unfortunately is the case. Just makes for a lackluster game in every case I can possibly think of
