Hi all! Weee, so this is my first post here! ![]() Second, (this is the part with the actual question) i'd like some recommendations on Asian horror flicks. This is a genre, which i more or less unwillingly have been sucked in to. I really love the Japanese way of making horror. So far i've seen Ringu, Ringu 0, Ringu 2, Phone, The Eye, Dark Water, Battle Royale, Ebola Syndrome, Ichi (whether or not this one can be classified as genuine horror is qustionable). Well my collection isn't that big yet, so i'm looking for some advice from you guys. Import horror flicks are pretty expensive to come by around here, so i always like to get recommendations before i buy anything. That's why i love this place! ![]() /Bleargh! |

Junk and Versus are great! I personally love Versus. Is really out there and quite gory with some good Sword play in there for boot! I think 90% of people here have Junk/Versus in their Collections - I have ![]() |

People keep applauding Ju-On The Grudge as being a sickly twisted and eerie film. I heard The Eye was just a bit above average as well. If you'd like a huge list of stuff to look through with synopsis hit up http://www.diabolikdvd.com . Browse their Japanese section and you'll find ton of horror. Find something that peaks your interest and search the mule or post a request here. Asian horror is actually pretty popular here in the states as mainstream Hollywood has all but abandoned anything horror. |

Thanks a lot guys! The links were a great help! When getting asian horror flicks. which versions would you say are the best? Aren't Hong Kong and Japanese versions usually uncut and more gory than releases from western countries?? |

Just take a look at the Guinea Pig movies ![]() ![]() A lot of the ones in that AE collection aren't what I'd call great, but they are very violent/gory and non-mainstream. For example I personally think the guinea pig movies are crap, the first one is basically a fake snuff movies. The whole things play out as an excuse for gore rather than anything of entertainment. Versus, Junk, etc. are great films |

Check out Ju-On. Not Ju-On: The Grudge, but Ju-On: The Curse. The Grudge is a remake of The Curse. Also, this may be of interest of you... http://www.acfmovies.com |

Ju-On: The Curse if you want to see any of the Ju-On movies. It's the best one by far. Also worth mentioning are Wild Zero, Bio-Zombie, The Twins Effect, Uzumaki, The Uninvited, Nightmare, Phone, Paradise Villa, Whispering Corridors, The Wishing Stairs, and Kairo. That should be enough to get you started. ![]() Junk is a fairly okay zombie movie. Wild Zero and Bio-Zombie are better though, imo. Versus is just plain fun. *waves to Kyle* ![]() |

Hi and welcomed Halifaxxx, In addition to the ones allready mentioned, here are some other good ones you should check out: Suicide Club (friggin AWESOME!) The Isle (not horror, but has some hard-to-watch scenes and is a very good film) Tale of Two Sisters Cure (if you see only one, let it be this) Story of Ricky (gory fun, almost Troma style) Audition |

Heya, don't see you around here often enough. ![]() I also second Wild Zero. Good, bizarre, cheesy fun. Guitar Wolf should be in more movies. ![]() |

Excellent! Thanks a lot! Kairo, Tale of Two Sisters and Uzumaki all sound great. I often think it can be a little difficult seeing through the different ratings and cuttings of a film. I prefer my horror flicks uncut, but it's not always easy to tell whether a film is cut or not. Any good tips here? *JohnDoe* I see you're from Norway? Great to have another Viking around! ![]() /Bleargh! |

UGh. yeah, when I'm not out slaying whales, I usually plunder women and rape villages.... ![]() Don't know about any good distubuturos anymore. the swedish one I used 'Movie-Line' stopped sending to Norway. Noadays I just download everything, and order an occasional hard-to-find flick from Amazon or whatever site has what I'm looking for and are willing to ship to Norway. |

A few I didn't see mentioned that I really enjoyed; Hanako, Ghost Actress AKA Don't look up ( the first film by Hideo Nakata, director of Ringu ), Isola, Sweet Home, St. Johns Wort. And definately watch Cure!!! There's plenty of great asian non-horror too, and I'd highly recommend trying a few if you get the chance ![]() |

I think they've hit most of the major titles. I will just wanr that Wild Zero, Junk, and Versus are not very scary. Also,, start with Ju-on 1 (Ju-on: The Curse or Ju-on [TV] are other titles for it), then do the rest. There are no remakes in that series (except the forthcoming American-funded Grudge). The first is the best. The second TV one reuses too much footage, but is worht watching right away, if you skip all that footage. The first theatrical version, Ju-on: The Grudge isn't bad and its sequel is great. They're probably still the scariest horror movies I've ever seen. Don't worry too much about cut versus unct with the Asian stuff. As long as you're getting them off eMule from links on these sites, you're good to go. |
