If you don't know what it is, don't bother reading on. You probably wont be interested anyway.
Since the 'What music you like' thread proved there were some more crazy ass people here who enjoy the same as me, I'd be very much interested in sharing some favorites with you. Only accept ed2k links though.
I'll start off with this little gem I just discovered:
ed2k: The.Irresistible.Force.-.Flying.High.vbr-standard.ZappBrannigan.rar [109.37 Mb] [ Stats]
Track 4 is a total brainkiller. It's one of those you can only listen to with headphones. (I tried on my speakers as well, but it didn't sound very good at all) I've listened to this at least 20 times a day for the last 4 days. Only wish it was much much longer. Has so great potential to continue, almost like Oldfield's Tubular Bells or something.
Track 5 is also rather nice IMO.
The others are a little to monotomous for my taste. I love Ambient, but prefer it like FSOL or something..
Please keep'em coming, but try to restrain from posting the obvious like MWNN/Infected/Astral etc. (unless there's something new out there.

So thanks for the link JD. I'll see if i have any interesting albums to share.

Wow, didn't expect this much interest...
But common with the ed2k links people!
Remember that track nr. 4 from the link I provided, absolutley HAS to be listened to with headphones!!
Here's one of my alltime favorite psy-tunes, that I bet none of you have heard before:
http://home.online.no/~s.rast/lok_mndr.rar
Can be played with Winamp.

<Bloated Brag mode=on> I've seen all of those live and gotten Astral's and MWNN's autographs. =) Couldn't get backstage to meet Simon Posford though. =( <Brag mode=off> paul-scream22 wrote: | Yeah lets start an ambient/trance thread!

what's 'ambience' defined as? Are we talking as it suggests background music, easy/weird sound shit?

I am one of those ppl who like many kinds, I love the Prodigy, Rammstein, megadeth, I even like the soundtrack to War of the Worlds. Guess it depends what I am doing and what mood I am in.

if you're interested take the guide to electronic music:
http://www.ishkur.com/features/music/
I'm so sick of hearing people say things like 'I hate techno' or equally uninformed statements... It's just like saying 'I don't like that music where they use guitars'.
This brilliant guide shows just some of the variety that is to be found, and everyone will find that they too enjoy at least a couple of subgenres.
As for pinpointing Ambient, that's too damned hard as it's such a big genre with many sub genres. My favorite (and probably THE most influential) would be FSOL. Beautifull stuff. Check out
ed2k: FSOL.Cascade.VBR.thedonga.rar [61.68 Mb] [ Stats]
if you like. it's only 60 mb. Or the slightly bigger
ed2k: FSOL.Lifeforms.2CDs.VBR.thedonga.rar [156.34 Mb] [ Stats]
This is not a-typical ambient however...
Go in the 'downtempo' section of the guide to see more.
Now that's over with, have anyone listened to that 'Mind Revealing' track yet? the one in here http://home.online.no/~s.rast/lok_mndr.rar
I'd like to hear if anyone have as good, unknown tracks lying around...
And here's another dub record which I thought was OK:
ed2k: VA.Youth.In.Dub.@moon.rar [76.84 Mb] [ Stats]
My alltime favorite dub album is this however:
ed2k: Imothep_-_Blueprint_-_1998_-_Full_album_-_Larm303.rar [44.20 Mb] [ Stats]
AMAZING STUFF!!!!!! If that link is not complete, I could rip and share it, although what I have is again just mp3's downed and burned...
NOW: The reason I started this thread was to kinda exchange links and learn about new stuff. Since this music aint being played on any Music Video channel or any clubs where I live or even written much about in magazines, it can be quite difficult to find the hidden gems... It's all about recomentaions/word of mouth. So please, give me some links you like! =)
PS: I've seen prodigy many times, but most importantly I saw them way back before they got all comeciallized and shitty. ahh... those were the days... =) [ Add all 4 links to your ed2k client ]
