Just wanted to say go see this when you get the chance. An excellent film. One of those rare horror movies which is actually well directed, acted, written, etc. One that could be still remembered in the future as we now remember the 70's/80's classics - it might be one that you either love or hate though (possibly). Better than High Tension and The Descent IMO out of the newer movies people rave about. For me it was the horror movie I've been waiting for (finally). High Tension was almost there, but not quite. The Descent was pretty good, but not in the league of the other two.

I should say (it's not a spoiler) the trailer says "based on true events", so don't go into it thinking it's a "true story" movie - it's based on a couple of true events. I only say that because I've seen a few reviews (by so called critics) marking it down solely because they felt they were manipulated by that line (more like they felt stupid not picking up on the 'based' I think).

I've also seen that many people are walking out of cinemas finding it a bit too much, but keep in mind it may be getting more mainstream or non-horror audiences because of the good comments it's getting ;) Folks hear will certainly have no problems, though I can understand why someone might leave. It is disturbing, but not gory. But yeah don't take much out of the walkouts or you might be disappointed.

Hope I haven't hyped too much now ;)
It's just my opinion, and I could be totally off the mark to everyone else :)
I have seen other people saying it's the best horror for decades though, and on the other hand people saying it's crap.

Anyone else seen it?
There'd have be others here from Australia or the UK.

btw, I've seen a supposed cam on emule, but the cinematography in Wolf Creek is great, so I'd not recommend going for a cam version.

Christmas Day it starts in the US. Theres the US website here with trailers http://www.wolfcreekmovie.com/
-edit- There's also a different website here for the UK with info about the true cases it's based on http://www.wolfcreek.co.uk/

I think Miramax bought it for something like 8 million (8 times the film budget), apparently before a distributor had bought it in Australia. Think it's also the first Aussie film to play at both Sundance and Cannes.

There's also a 2-disc dvd coming out in the UK in January too.
It started there in September debuting at #2 in their box office I heard.

I heard most of this info on a recent episode of "Australian Story" about the actor John Jarrat which had heaps about Wolf Creek in it - he's well known here from the TV shows "Better Homes and Gardens" and "MacLeod's Daughters", so it was strange seeing him in Wolf Creek, but he does a brilliant job.

Yeah with The Descent, I wouldn't rush to see that one. It is pretty good I thought, but just not in the league of Haute Tension and Wolf Creek - mostly mentioned that as it seems to be getting a lot of good comments with some saying the best horror of 2005.

From the Netherlands meself, but if there's an UK release prob will grab that one. That trailer looks really promising.
But hey what could one do wrong when you have these GOREgeous landscapes 8)

Did not come across cinemas overhere i think, or I completely missed it

Anyway hillbillies make me laugh my ass off !!

Makes me wonder how this flick will end up for me, because i can't judge a movie by only seein the trailer. And I've seen movies turn bad and I mean really bad after their trailer told me otherwise.

Lol i completely understand with seeing actors, tv hosts you're already familiar with from this angle. You always get that funny feeling  mmmmmmmm let's hope they don't f#ck up

Anyway movie's been added to my list

cheers :beerchug:

sorry man, I assumed you were from the US for some reason. If you do get it in the Netherlands, I hope you like it mate. :)

Just found out a bit of info too - it's been nominated for 7 AFI awards (Australia's Oscar). Best Director, Screenplay, Supporting Actress, Editing, Score, Sound, & Cinematography. I thought it might have got a nomination Actor (John Jarrat), but surprised a horror even got a nomination - can't remember that happening here - tho can't think of many Oz horrors good or bad ;). I hope it can win some, but it's up against 'The Proposition' in nearly all categories, which I've heard a lot of good things about (that's meant to be a bit disturbing too I've heard, though it's not a horror).

It also debuted at #1 in Australia this week http://www.infilm.com.au/boxoffice.htm

Yeah, Im looking forward to this too.
I think its based on real-events that are actually in court this very minute! Theres a big case about a Ozzy-HillBilly-type thats is s'posed to have brutally murdered some womans hubby/boyfriend and then stuck her in the boot/trunk of her car! :o
He drove around with her in there for a while, but somehow she escaped to tell the tale!
Im sure she is from the UK! :wacky:
That ring any plotline-bells, h8sh8?

Can't wait to see this. i haven't seen a great horror movie in ages; i liked Land of the Dead, of course, but great?. i think the last one i completely loved (and it's only borderline horror really) was Ginger Snaps. oh--i liked the Dawn of the Dead remake. anyway, thanks for talking about Wolf Creek.

Yeah it's loosely based on that case, and yeah it is in the courts at the moment, and infact Wolf Creek has been delayed in the state where that case happened incase the movie influences the outcome of the trial. Yeah they were both UK tourists driving in the outback when it happened.
It's also based (probably a bit more than the Falconio case) on Ivan Milat, the "Back-Packer" murderer, also here in Aust. One of the more disturbing parts of Wolf Creek is what Milat actually did, which is probably part of where it's hitting hard at some audiences here I think - the realistic characters/acting/screenplay being a major factor too I reckon.
It also uses parts from other similar Oz cases too.

Just found out it was nominated for 4 IF Awards (Inside Film) which is not until next Wednesday here on tv - it's not as big as the AFIs, but still good (probably the second biggest). It was nominated for Director and Cinematography, but not sure of the other 2. -edit- sound, and production design are the other two...

John Jarratt (the bad guy in Wolf Creek) is now gonna be in Tarantino's "Grind House" and there's rumours that he may also be in Tarantino's "Inglorious Bastards" too.
Tarantino appartently told Jarratt that Wolf Creek is the scariest movie he has seen.
There's an article with a lot more about Jarrat and Tarantino here...
http://entertainment.news.com.au/story/ ... 85,00.html

I'm gonna have to find those Aussie horrors now - I'd never heard of them. Anyone seen em around?

The movie is base on a cross between two diffrent real serieal killers in Au. The backpaker murdrs and Ivan mallat. The movie is loosly base as in hardly at all. With out giving to much away, the girls and the guy and how the two girls die is 100% true to there wounds and places found. That is from the backpaker murders NOT the guy who shot the boyfriend and dragged that chick all over the outback in the boot of his cars.

Basicaly it is the serial killing freak part of the backpacker murders and the sexual freakness of Ivan Mallat.

All that said I saw this movie a few weeks ago on release day in sydney, and it is VERY VERY good.. I think you all should see it. You can keep your demons and monsters... a phyco with a axe or gun... now that is how to make a horror film!!

Now all i want is the same writter/director to make a movie of Snowtown!! (the AU version of Texus Chainsaw massicare/House of 1000 corpses.. but real)

Old thread, but who cares cos this really needs saying...

Wolf Creek is possibly one of the stupidest films it has ever been my misfortune to watch.
Every moronic victim behaviour ever seen in a horror film is dragged out of the closet and made even more ludicrous.

Spoiler:
Beat the bad guy and then just run away without checking that he's dead is a prime example. Even more ridiculous is dumping the truck you've escaped in off a cliff and then going back to where you ran from to get another car.

Utter, utter tripe.

It contained nothing that wasn't done before , and better at that...

Now leave that wooden stake in the chest thank you.

Just got round to watching this. I didn't enjoy it really. Found it rather silly in places, but disturbing at others nonetheless. I say disturbing rather than horrific too. Maybe I was expecting too much from it, but I came away quite disappointed.

Spoiler:
why didn't she just bash his fucking head in when he was on the floor - that was the worst bit for me

I've seen it recently and have to say - really goood movie!!! sheer and brutal in yer face terror. now I know - I'm never ever going to visit Australia

but it got some weak points - like above mentioned spoiler reveals - it just can't be explained anymore like - ordinary people put in extraordinary situations, extreme tension, panic, blah, blah, blah. but for me these are only minor flaws.

We ask questions like that, but do you know people in that girl's age bracket/social class? They are fuckin dipshits. I live in College-kid centrel and they are all a bunch of morons. The fact that some of these idiots survive in horror movies surprises me more.

Nice one, GrindCallus. I absolutely agree. I work in a college, and the lack of awareness, common sense, and preservation instinct that these kids have borders, at times, on cretinous. I could list many examples, but won't depress you all.

As for the film? Personally, I thought it was superb. And furthering the above point, quite chilling in it's realism.

I felt that this movie started out as crap. Complete and total crap. The characters were flat, their "adventure" was boring, and the bit of tension around the rednecks at the truckstop was very contrived. A good idea to throw something in the beginning to add tension, I suppose, but too little and too poorly done. Then, finally a full 45 minutes later, something happens. Finally. The movie switches gears into a mediocre TCM rip-off and meanders along. Still don't care about the characters, but, at least, now, there's an attempt to add tension. The killer uses a gun, too. What the hell? Guns are not scary in movies. In real life, they can be scary as hell, but in movies, not at all. And, then, it ends. I think if I'd skipped the first half, I'd give it a 6.5, but as a whole, it's about a 4.

as mentioned above..old forum thread...but cant hurt to complain...not really a fan of this movie either, has its moments as did high tension, but overall...something with this new generation of movies is lacking :eatthis: ...nothing can beat the classics!
