i've wanted to read the books for years now, but never got around to doing it. is this mini series good compared to the books? and is there someone who can tell me if ploughing through severel thousand pages is worth it?

I think I read one or two of the books ~20 years ago. Don't remember much, except that I was not that impressed. The films seem to be a good summary of the books. I said nice ones to this mini, not exceptionally great. :-)
